Awful
Awful. Who cares what the calculations are as long as you get the dose right? It's not realistic at all and doesn't translate to real life. The system is so awkward to use with constant clicking and scrolling, and fiddly drawing of syringes and IV drops. Just ask the question and let people answer. Simple. I'd rather do a 150 dose meds round than get marked on what I've put in some stupid drop down box that doesn't affect the outcome anyway. The design isn't fit for purpose and shouldn't be used by lazy organisations who can't be bothered to mark a proper exam.

We understand the point you’re making about the difference between demonstrating that you can calculate the correct dose and demonstrating it through a particular digital interface. However, the purpose of safeMedicate is to assess more than the final numerical answer, including the application of calculations to medication administration scenarios.
We’d welcome the opportunity to understand more about the specific issues you encountered so that we can feed them into our ongoing development work.
There is plenty that is good about safeMedicate, but some challenges too. ..
What is great is that the system gives lots of coaching and opportunities to practice for those who have the time to give to it. Explanations can be clear and patient record details appear authentic. Though I do wonder how much time busy students, often with a lot of family responsiblities and placements to fulfil, have for checking out all the videos and using it to develop their skills.
The down-side is that the system itself is not fully authentic. Graduating students will not be completing boxes with the patients' data to identify what the drug dose will be (at least, they are not at present). They will not be dragging digital sliders on a screen to set IV drip rates, or filling syringes by dragging the plunger in a neat sideways movement across a screen - a tricky action to make. As a tutor, I have as much a challenge coaching students in how to use the safeMedicate system as in undertaking the calculations themselves. Some have 'failed' assessments because they could not control the mouse well enough when trying to drag the plunger or slider. Some have struggles because they have dyslexia and so they cannot make out the part on the screen that they have to move, or they can't identify the parts of the digital representation of the syringe correctly and so they don't apply their (correct) answer correctly to the physical adjustment of the digital syringe. It can be quite frustating and distressing for some students, and I understand their difficulties.

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We’re really pleased to hear that you find the coaching, practice opportunities, explanations and patient records useful.
You also raise some important concerns about authenticity and accessibility. We’re particularly sorry to hear about students with dyslexia or motor difficulties finding some of the interactions frustrating or distressing - there are some third party add ons that i'm aware some organisations use to help with students who face these particular issues.
We really appreciate you highlighting these issues from a tutor’s perspective. Feedback like this helps us identify where the platform can be improved.
Boring
Boring, repetitive, not conducive to learning. The background elevator music interferes with presentation of the material. The monotone narration almost puts the learner to sleep.
The tracker doesn't keep accurate count of modules achieved.
Really disappointing. I was excited about this class/program.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. The majority of the learning modules themselves do not contain any background music, however our new safeHANDS module does have some light music in the background - I will pass this feedback on.
Your safeMedicate usage is recorded automatically but you do need to log out of your account using the logout button for the most accurate recording of your safeMedicate session.

Safe Medicate is brilliant!!
Safe Medicate is a brilliant resource that is built into the Nursing programme enabling students to engage with the learning of safe and correct calculations and measurements of medications (Tablets/capsules/liquids) and IV infusions.
The more you engage with the resource the easier it gets and having access to daily practice tests allows for reduced errors when it comes to the exam (100% required to pass). Safe Medicate is brilliant!!!

Cannot fault it!
I cannot praise safeMedicate highly enough. The product is a brilliant way for individuals to develop competence with an extensive range of drug calculations from Essential Skills to more complex Body Surface Area and Injectable Medicines calculations. The team are incredibly responsive and continue to develop their products to enhance them in line with professional standard changes.

Great!!
The teaching of safe medication helps me to know the correct dosage and time. It helped, although I have completed my two-year placement and have now graduated. It is a great and important module in nursing.
