Best price for the type of insurance required.

Took out insurance for our Working Cocker Spaniel.
Making a claim, discovered that an admin error had recorded our dog's date of birth incorrectly.
This was amended and in April a new insurance schedule was issued for the year February 2025/2026.
Noted on this document was the excess of £100 and, importantly, a co insurance of 0%.
Fast forward to after our dog had successful cruciate surgery. We received an unexpected bill of almost £500 from the veterinary surgery. We queried this with the insurer and were told that this was a co-insurance payment due to our dog being over 7 years old.
We raised this with RSPCA referring them to the document noting the 0% co insurance. They acknowledged that the document did indeed state 0% but told us that small print in a link in the covering letter to the schedule referred to the relevant payment for dogs over 7 years. This document is only available after one enters into a contract with RSPCA.
To have a document stating 0% co insurance (issued by RSCPA after updating our dogs date of birth) and to not have the co insurance payment referred to when accepting the claim seems unfair and at worst very sharp practice.
Reading reviews, it seems that RSPCA think nothing of charging extortionate amounts (£86 per month for our dog) and then doing whatever it can to wriggle out of paying.
By their logic, the schedule could state an excess of £100 but deep in the small print could be a 10 times multiplier for dogs over a certain age - extremely onerous and unfair.
Note- RSPCA have responded to this review and haven’t even got the subject matter of my complaint correct! Says it all really!

If I'm honest, I usually ignore the cheapest option from a insurance search site - but this time the cheapest was RSPCA. A charity I trust. And when I looked at the details of the policy compared to the 2nd, 3rd & 4th options, it was better.

It was so easy to set up on line. Had make a phone call to RSPCA to recheck I had set it up right the chap was so very helpful went through policy explaining everything. 1st class service was given thank you. Great firm to have as pet insurance.

Good value pet insurance and easy to purchase.

Looked for a new policy after the previous company tried to up the premium by 35% for my 1yr old toy poodle who is in very good health and not been to see a vet for any illness. Took out the policy with the rspca, cheaper monthly payments, although the excess is £40 more than the last insurer. Sorting the policy was quick and simple, will see what happens when it comes to renewal time again. Will always compare prices if I feel I am being overcharged when no claims have been made.

Completely rude and insensitive.
Only contacted me back about my deceased pets policies when I requested a new policy for my deceased loved on.

Cash grab and incompetent.

Absolutely fantastic service. When your beloved pet is poorly it's very stressful anyway but knowing you have a great insurance policy in place and great customer service it's peace of mind. I've had Labradors for 25 years, and they have all been insured, RSPCA Insurance are by far the best

Wouldn't bother with these guys. Took a policy in November 2024. Claimed for my dog who had an aggravated ear in September 2024 and we were given a sterile cleaner. She has been fine since. In April her ears needed cleaning under anaesthetic as something had aggravated her ears again.

They are linking the two issues and stating that her condition was pre-existing, despite the fact she has been fine for months. There is no way to tell if the issue was preexisting or not, but logic would dictate that no further vet visits up until this month would suggest these are two seperate incidents.

I would never have changed insurer if I reasonably thought my pet had ongoing issues.

I am now faced with a large bill. Absolutely shocking. Will be moving away from these guys asap.

Had my dog insured with the rspca for 1 year they have said the renewal price will be £80 more a 40 percent increase no claims were made clearly you don’t want normal people to own a dog your a joke the year round collection we have for the rspca which saves about £1500 a year was removed from our shop today no need for the greed and to top it off just gone a comparison site they have offered the same cover for 25 percent less than what I originally paid

Seems a bit odd when they try to get you to adopt senior pets but their insurance doesn’t let you get a quote for a cat who is over 10 years old.

Absolutely terrible cannot for the life of me access the my pet portal hub to cancel my pet insurance! Only recently bought it. Only good reviews came up until I came across bad reviews! Absolutely shocking

I had a brilliant experience with RSPCA.
My puppy got bit by another dog and his face swelled up. It was 4am on Sunday morning so my vet wasn’t open, I called the 24/7 RSPCA helpline and a lovely woman named Emma T (I think) reassured me and FaceTimed me so she could see my dog. She was so helpful and brilliant with myself and my dog.
I went to the emergency vet and it cost me a fortune. I filed a claim with RSPCA and got the money back within 5 days. I think the website is easy to navigate too.
I know everyone has different experience with insurance companies and I can’t ensure it will be this easy every time.. but this time they were ace.
