Root & River® is a British eco-luxury yoga brand creating thoughtfully designed yoga mats and accessories for practitioners who value performance, quality and a more intentional approach to practice. Our premium yoga mats are made from a 100% natural rubber base with a high-performance polyurethane surface, offering exceptional grip through everything from slower, considered movement to warm and sweaty practice. Supportive 5 mm cushioning provides comfort for joints without compromising stability, while a longer and wider format gives practitioners more room to move. Each mat also incorporates subtle alignment guidance designed to support rather than dictate your practice. Our root line pattern provides a quiet visual reference for positioning, while three understated dots offer guidance for hand placement and reflect the rhythm of inhale, pause and exhale. Sustainability and considered material choices are central to Root & River. Our mats are free from PVC, formaldehyde and toxic dyes, and are designed with longevity in mind. Alongside our yoga mats, our collection includes natural cork support blocks and our linen and cotton Practice Shawl, created to support movement, rest and ritual. Root & River was created from a belief that the things we practise with should perform beautifully, feel considered and be made with care. We believe in presence alongside performance, conscious accountability and creating products that respect both the practice of yoga and the people who practise it. Where you’re grounded. Where you flow.

Oh my goodness
Oh my goodness, didn't know I could love a yoga mat this much! Feels so great to use, firm grip, no slip, beautifully comfy & wonderfully padded to be & lie on too. Been using & trying yoga mats (in studios & at events etc too, not one to buy new things often) for years (over 15) & never found such a satisfying mat. Highly recommend!

Thank you so much, Sandra and Sofia. Knowing that you’ve been practising on and trying different yoga mats for more than 15 years makes this especially lovely to read. We put a great deal of thought into balancing firm grip and stability with enough cushioning to make the mat genuinely comfortable, so we’re delighted that you’re enjoying both. Thank you for such a wonderful recommendation, and we hope you enjoy many practices together on it.
Beautiful, practical, and sustainable
I first tried a Root & River mat when attending a yoga class in the World of Wellness area at WOMAD this year, where they were being lent out to participants by the hosts. The mat was so very comfortable (especially after wandering around a busy festival all morning) and also beautifully illustrated - love the logo and the soft, matt colours! To be honest I was a little sad to return it at the end of practice, but was then incredibly grateful to be gifted one to take home with me when I came to teach my own yoga workshop on the last day of the festival.
Favourite things about this mat are the texture (gently cushioned and smooth but grippy), the design (beautiful embossed nature-inspired logo), the size (a little larger than standard, allowing you to flow more easily and to have your hands and feet resting comfortably on the mat when you land in savasana), and last but not least, that it is eco-friendly, made from sustainable materials, and feels like it is made to last.
Absolutely love this mat, and plan to practice on it for years to come!

I’m the least Yoga-ish man in the universe but this mat has converted me! It’s soft yet durable and comfortable and gives great support while I am using it. The blue we have is a beautiful colour and I feel so much better for having used it daily and I look forward to rolling it out and getting my downward dog fired up. I can’t recommend it highly enough - from someone who never thought he’d use a mat, I am now an advocate of this brilliant brand.

Thank you so much. We might be slightly biased, but we rather love the Amazon green too! 💚 We’re delighted you’re enjoying the grip as much as the colour.

This is an incredibly meaningful review for us, Shiv. A great deal of thought and intention went into creating the mats, so your words about feeling that in the finished mat mean more than you might realise. Thank you.
I love this yoga mat
I love this yoga mat! It's soft and cushioned, which has been particularly helpful to me when doing kneeling poses. It's sturdy and non slip making me feel secure when doing standing poses. I also love the blue Danube colour.

Thank you so much. Finding the balance between enough cushioning for kneeling postures and enough stability for standing ones was really important to us, so we’re delighted that you’re experiencing both. And we’re very pleased you love the Danube blue too!

I love the subtle colour of this mat. It's calming, rather than loud. And I love it's thickness and stickiness. Just a joy to practice on!
