I bought an E-Trail 1.0 eBike believing it was sold with a reputable Samsung battery pack, as advertised.
After research, I found it was a generic Chinese pack with Chinese cells. I'm sure we've seen the videos and warnings of lithium batteries exploding with thermal runaway.
See the attached images where they admitted they weren't Samsung cells.
After much ado regarding the false advertising, I returned the ebike to the store for a refund. Well, it was a hassle to get the money after dropping the bike off, weeks later.
If you have any Reid electric bicycle, you will most likely have the same battery and can return the bike under false advertising.
Reid Cycles Blacktop 2.0 E-Bike
I purchased this e-bike about 4 weeks ago, and thought now would be a good time to offer a review.
I bought this bike because I have been a cycle commuter in Brisbane for several years, and finally got bored of the hills on my rides in and out (Ferny Grove to the CBD) so decided to by an e-bike.
It was a great decision - I've used the bike 4 days a week since purchase (as opposed to 2 days a week on my old bike), and I no longer dread the first 3KM of my ride.
There are a few areas that Reid should look at for the next iteration.
Claimed battery range of 80km is probably only likely on a flat with level 1 assistance - my daily ride is ~38km, and I use the full range of assistance levels, mainly 1-2, and the battery is normally down to about 30 - 35% when I finish the ride home. I'd say 60km for a Brisbane commute would be about right.
The Good
The bike is a joy to ride. It feels almost the same as my old bike, accounting for the additional weight of battery and motor.
The placement of the motor over the crank makes the assistance feel like a part of riding and also means handling is largely unaffected. I had also tried the Blacktop 1 with a rear hub motor, and that felt like you were being pushed, this (generally) feels like normal peddling - but easier.
Makes all the hills a breeze.
Has increased my riding days for commuting.
The mid
The assistance level on the motor can be slow to change up/down - I've worked it into my riding style, but its still mildly irritating
Sometimes a long freewheel after a high assistance level (i.e. downhill from a steep climb) the motor acts as a brake on peddling.
My average speed on this constantly brushes against the maximum allowed by QLD law for e-transport, and this sometimes causes the assistance to drag on peddling when around the 25-25.5km mark. This isn't consistent, which makes it more annoying.
The Poor
No inbuilt frame mount for bottle and accessory cages. This is a MASSIVE oversight in a country where personal hydration during exercise is a potential health risk.
Not only that, but the frame tubing doesn't appear to fit to any standard sizing, and this has made finding a bottle mount more complex than it needed to be, and for me I have a sub-optimal solution which mars the lines of the bike.
This omission is the main reason I'm giving the product a 4* review - I can't imaging machining 2 holes and adding cage mounts would contribute that much to costs. This should be addressed as a priority for the next iteration of the design.
If the chain hops off, the gap between pedal and motor casing is exactly as wide as the chain so it can be hard to pull the chain out if it gets stuck there.
Conclusion
Aside from one big and a few minor niggles, this is a great bike if you are looking to ditch or the car or train or to mix up your morning commute.
It won't take all the strain - you still have to pedal! - but it offers a genuine alternative to both modes of commuting, you get to exercise and let's face it - riding a bike is fun!

I purchased a bike online from Reid Cycle's website. Delivery was quick and assembly was relatively simple, but unfortunately it was not the bike for me.
Reid Cycles were happy to accept the return within the 30 days return policy and I received a full refund.

You may not be able to get the free service they offer.
Part of the reason I bought this bike, which I love, was because it offered the free service within the first year of purchase.
But I found out yesterday that when I asked about where to take it, they don't service Cairns where I live. And I'm sure not going to take it all the way to Brisbane.
I am really disappointed about this.

Women's Classic e-Bike and Blacktop e-Bike
Between us my wife and I have purchased four bikes from the Brisbane Reid store. My wife currently has a Women's Classic e-Bike and I have a Blacktop e-Bike (both purchased Sep 2020). I have done almost 1800Km on the blacktop, commuting and riding around Brisbane and along the Moreton Bay foreshore. We have had the bikes serviced at the Woolloongabba store and the service has always been awesome.

X2 WSD commuter purchase via click and collect
My order of the X2 WSD commuter is in a couple of parts. I firstly dropped into the store for advice and looked at the stock and received lots of helpful information. As X2 was of interest I went onto the alert emails from the online store for stock arrivals. I placed my order with the online store as part of pre-purchase and waited for the delivery. The order process was easy enough. The communication from the online store was limited. However I'd rather be told we will tell you when it arrives rather than a constant barrage of updates. Only confusion I had was the online store advising it has arrived and stating brisbane 3-5 days. An hour earlier I had a text message from the Brisbane store to say it is ready to pick up. I was not sure where each message came from.
I called Brisbane store and it was indeed in stock and ready for pick up.
Great service and information on pick up. I found the local store really friendly, engaged and supportive.

Amazing service & Awesome product
The Guys (Charlie & Rory) at Reid Brisbane were amazing! I ordered my bike online and they put it together free of charge, ran me through everything I needed to know, and answered all my questions (and there were a lot!) with patience and a clear in-depth knowledge of the industry based on real life experience. I picked out some lights, lock and a helmet, and they were very easy going when I had to return the helmet because it didn’t fit my head shape, and helped me to find an alternative.., even when that meant going to a competitor, because I couldn’t find one in their store I liked. I bought the after care service, because it’s an absolute bargain, and know these guys are going to look after me and the bike for the next 3 years.., for $60!! Would highly recommend this place.., oh, and the bike is awesome to! Urban S - Very affordable, great build, and looks super sexy!

So simple from start to finish
Ordering my bike was so simple. The online order was ready for pickup within a few days, and I don't think I was even in the store for 5 minutes when I collected my bike. The staff at the Brisbane store we outstanding.
Went in to Reid to buy a fat bike
Went in to Reid to buy a fat bike. Asked the salesman some questions about it but he couldn't tell me anything about it as he's never ridden one before and didn't seem too fussed about making a sale. Decided to go back and buy the bike week after anyway as no one else had them in stock, had 900 cash in my pocket to buy it, was then told they couldn't order the bike in for me on their computer I had to go online and do it myself. Bike turned up in a reasonable amount of time and seems well built. Wanted a kickstand installed but was told they don't stock any suitable for the bike. Very strange way to be running a bike shop.
