Auto-renewal wasn't clearly disclosed…

Auto-renewal wasn't clearly disclosed at signup, just small print under the Pay button. Emailed support 18 hrs before renewal asking to cancel, they refused and told me to deactivate it myself, but the deactivation button was broken. Got charged anyway, then refused a refund. Avoid.

Deceptive billing, hidden annual charges, and unfair terms

This service misleads users and takes your money through deceptive practices! On their website, they advertise an attractive price per month in big fonts. However, during checkout, they secretly enroll you in a full-year subscription and charge a massive lump sum all at once. The website itself is fully in Russian, designed to attract local clients. But when it comes to legal nuances, the Refund Policy is suddenly written strictly in English. It is clearly calculated that an average user won’t read through legal text in a foreign language. In these terms, the provider boldly states outrageous and predatory conditions: they reserve the right to block your account at any moment at their own discretion and simply refuse to refund your money. This means you pay for a year upfront, they can ban you the next day without any explanation, and you won’t be able to get your money back. This is a pure scam and a cash grab. Avoid this service at all costs!

Russian scam

They hide the billing god knows where, it's very difficult to even log into your account because you have to reset your password to get there. When you try to get a refund immediately after you didn't cancel your subscription 500 times preventively, they lie that there is no such account, and then tell you that they don't give refunds (OF COURSE). "Thank you" for wasting my time for €10.49. Revolut chargeback requested. With such attitude, I cannot be sure about privacy at all. So-called "libertarian reputation". Typical "VPN" scam. Avoid.

False Advertising, Abysmal Support, and Completely Ineffective in Russia

I purchased Red Shield VPN specifically because of their loud marketing claims regarding advanced DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) evasion and traffic masking. I am connecting from Russia, where robust anti-censorship technology is actually required. Unfortunately, this service is a textbook example of a bait-and-switch scam with incredibly hostile customer support.

Here are the facts you need to know before paying their premium prices:

1. Blatant False Advertising (Missing Features)
Their promotional materials and App Store screenshots prominently advertise access to protocols like "RedLink Shadow", "OpenConnect", and "OpenVPN". However, once you pay and open the actual app, these protocols are completely missing from the settings. You are paying for features that simply do not exist in the current build.

2. Fails Completely During Blocks
Despite their claims of "advanced obfuscation" and video-traffic masking, the VPN entirely collapses during active blocking phases in Russia. The highly touted encryption they brag about performs worse than a standard, cheap, open-source proxy. Furthermore, core application features like split-tunneling (whitelists) are entirely broken—local sites either fail to load or drag at a snail's pace when the VPN is active.

3. Hostile and Unprofessional Customer Support
This is the most infuriating part. When I experienced massive speed drops (down to 14 Mbps) and provided my application logs alongside Speedtest proofs to their support, they completely ignored the technical data. Instead, they copy-pasted a generic response blaming my device, my router, and my ISP.
When I politely pointed out that my base internet works flawlessly without their VPN and asked them to actually investigate the issue on their end, the support agent literally threatened to stop answering me if I "repeated the question."

Conclusion:
Do not give them your money. You are paying a premium price (essentially double the cost of better alternatives) for a stripped-down app, false promises, broken routing, and customer service that actively threatens to ignore you when their servers fail. Avoid at all costs.

No refund, scam

Advertised 14-day Refund also under European Consumer Rights regulations not possible!!!!

Asked for refund as I was not satisfied with the speed (with Cyberghost worked better) in response I got an answer, after paying upfront for a year, that EU 14 day cool off period does not entitle me to use the service for free….. just avoid them.

Scammers

They advertise a 14-day refund period, which is a lie. Furthermore, their browser extension doesn't work. As a result, after I complained and asked for a refund, an hour and a half after I made the payment, they started telling me I had to debug the software for a month and "make every effort," and only if nothing worked at all would they offer a refund. I had to open a dispute with the bank; I hope they shut this company down. Also they enable subscription auto renewal by default

Fraudulent customer support

Fraudulent customer support. I was charged for a renewal I never approved. The team was less than helpful and their UI is intentionally opaque.
Had to request a chargeback through my bank which they are even contesting. The VPN worked only at times and took quite long to connect.
