Dettagli del prodotto

The PDP IDI Conversion Fuel Filter Head is a CNC-machined billet aluminum fuel filter head for 1983-1994 Ford 6.9L and 7.3L IDI diesel trucks. On the 7.3L it eliminates the factory fuel heater assembly and the plastic water separator prone to cracking on the bottom of the stock filter - along with the overflow line and every leak point that comes with it. On the 6.9L it works with or without the factory firewall-mounted water separator in place. Both applications are also a clean solution for trucks where the problematic factory firewall-mounted water separator has already been bypassed. Lifetime warranty included. Buy this if... Your 7.3L IDI has a leaking fuel heater and you want to eliminate it for good Your 7.3L has a cracked or leaking plastic water separator on the bottom of the stock filter You have a 6.9L with the factory water separator still in place and want to run it with the 33811 filter You have a 6.9L with a bypassed or removed factory water separator and want to run the 7.3L option with the 33380 integrated separator and drain You want to run a filter with an integrated water separator instead of the factory setup Do not choose this if... Your truck is not a 1983-1994 Ford 6.9L or 7.3L IDI application You plan to reuse the factory 7.3L fuel filter - it will not work with this head Verify before ordering... Confirm your engine - 6.9L direct bolt-on, 7.3L requires longer bolts plus return line or tee 7.3L buyers: source an early-style 6.9L return line kit separately, or add the tee fitting at checkout - mounting bolts are also an optional add-on at checkout, not included by default Confirm filter: 7.3L requires Wix 33380, 6.9L uses Wix 33811 - factory 7.3L filter will not fit   What This Head Solves on Each Application The problems this head addresses are different depending on which IDI engine you have - both result in the same outcome, but for different reasons. On the 7.3L IDI, the factory fuel heater seats in the top of the filter housing and is sealed by an O-ring that degrades over time. When the O-ring starts to fail it allows fuel to seep out and - more critically on a diesel - introduces air into the fuel system. Air ingestion at the filter head is a well-documented cause of hard starting, rough idle, and stalling on these trucks. The overflow line and Schrader valve on the same assembly add two more aging leak points. Replacing the O-ring is the common short-term fix, but OEM heater parts are increasingly hard to source for these trucks and the underlying assembly has multiple sealing surfaces that all age together. This head eliminates the heater, the overflow line, and those failure points in one install. On the 6.9L IDI, there is no fuel heater. The right configuration depends on whether your factory firewall-mounted water separator is still in place: Factory separator still in place: Select the 6.9L option and run the Wix 33811 filter. Your factory separator handles water separation as it was designed to. Factory separator bypassed or removed: We strongly recommend selecting the 7.3L option instead. This lets you run the Wix 33380, which has a built-in water separator and drain - giving you integrated water separation without the factory unit in the loop. The 1987 model year is a transition year and can have elements of both the 6.9L and 7.3L fuel system setups depending on build date. If your truck is a 1987, verify your specific configuration before selecting an option. On the 7.3L, the plastic water separator bolts onto the bottom of the stock filter housing and is the weak point - not a firewall unit. The 7.3L does not use a firewall-mounted separator. If yours is leaking, cracked, or just due for replacement, this head eliminates it along with the heater assembly. Confirm your engine and return line solution, then this is the correct part to order. Warranty: Lifetime on the filter head Construction: CNC-machined billet aluminum Satisfaction: Full refund guaranteed 6.9L Install: No modifications required   6.9L vs 7.3L - Which Application to Select The application you choose at checkout determines what hardware ships with your kit. The filter head itself fits both engines - the difference is in the mounting hardware and return line configuration required for the 7.3L. Spec 6.9L IDI Application 7.3L IDI Application Best for Factory separator still in place - run with Wix 33811 Eliminating 7.3L fuel heater and plastic bottom-mount separator; also correct for 6.9L with bypassed firewall separator Mounting bolts Use existing hardware 2x 3/8 x 4.5" bolts available as optional add-on at checkout Return line No extra parts needed Source early-style 6.9L return line kit separately, OR use tee fitting (add-on at checkout) Compatible filter Wix 33811 (factory separator still in place) - or select 7.3L option if separator is bypassed Wix 33380 only - factory 7.3L filter will NOT work Part number PDPIDI6.9kit / PDPIDI6.9kitW/33811 PDPIDI7.3Kit / PDPIDI7.3KitW/33380 7.3L Return Line - Two Ways to Handle It The 7.3L application requires one of these two configurations at the Schrader valve port. The return line kit must be sourced on your own - only the tee fitting is available as a checkout add-on. Option 1 - Early-style 6.9L return line kit: The most straightforward path. This must be sourced separately - it is not available from us. If you already have one or can source one locally, this is the cleaner install. Option 2 - Tee fitting: Install a tee in the Schrader valve port, run the overflow to a barbed fitting on one side of the tee, and install the Schrader in the other. Available as an add-on at checkout. If you cannot source the 6.9L return line kit, select this option before placing your order. If you already have a tee or plan to source the 6.9L return line kit, skip the tee add-on at checkout.   Installation Video   What Comes in the Box Kit contents depend on the application and options selected at checkout: CNC billet aluminum fuel filter head Filter stud 7.3L application: 2x 3/8 x 4.5" mounting bolts available as optional add-on at checkout - not included by default With filter option selected: Wix 33380 (7.3L) or Wix 33811 (6.9L) Tee fitting option: Available as add-on at checkout for 7.3L Schrader valve port configuration Not included by default: early-style 6.9L return line kit (source separately), mounting bolts for 7.3L, tee fitting, and fuel filter - all available as optional add-ons at checkout except the return line kit. 6.9L - head only PDPIDI6.9kit 6.9L - with Wix 33811 PDPIDI6.9kitW/33811 7.3L - head only PDPIDI7.3Kit 7.3L - with Wix 33380 PDPIDI7.3KitW/33380 Superseded part number PDPIDIFUELx   Avoid These Common Mistakes Using the factory 7.3L filter. The factory 7.3L fuel filter will not fit this head. The correct filter for 7.3L applications is the Wix 33380 - available as an add-on at checkout. Not sourcing the 7.3L return line solution before starting the install. The early-style 6.9L return line kit must be sourced on your own - we do not sell it. Source it before you start, or select the tee fitting add-on at checkout before ordering. 6.9L with a bypassed separator selecting the 6.9L option. If your factory firewall water separator is gone, select the 7.3L option - it lets you run the Wix 33380 with built-in separator and drain. The 6.9L option with the 33811 is only correct when the factory separator is still in place. Selecting the wrong application at checkout. The 6.9L and 7.3L kits ship different hardware. Confirm your engine and separator status before ordering. Assuming the tee fitting is included. The tee fitting is an optional add-on for 7.3L installs and must be selected at checkout - it does not ship automatically with the 7.3L kit.   Engine confirmed: 6.9L IDI or 7.3L IDI Correct application selected at checkout 7.3L installs: early-style 6.9L return line kit sourced separately, or tee fitting add-on selected at checkout Filter confirmed: Wix 33380 for 7.3L, Wix 33811 for 6.9L - factory 7.3L filter will not fit For a 6.9L IDI with the factory separator in place, select the 6.9L option with the 33811 filter. For a 6.9L with the separator bypassed, or any 7.3L IDI, select the 7.3L option and run the 33380 with integrated separator and drain - this is the correct part to order.   Frequently Asked Questions Click or tap a question below to expand the answer. Why does the 7.3L IDI fuel heater leak and what problems does it cause? The 7.3L IDI fuel filter housing has two main failure points: the fuel heater that seats in the top of the housing sealed by an O-ring, and the plastic water separator that screws onto the bottom of the stock filter. When the heater O-ring fails it introduces air into the fuel system - a documented cause of hard starting, rough idle, and stalling. The plastic bottom-mount separator cracks and leaks as it ages. The overflow line and Schrader valve add two more failure points on the same assembly. This conversion head eliminates all of them. Does the 6.9L IDI have a fuel heater? No. The 6.9L IDI does not have a fuel heater. The correct configuration depends on whether your factory firewall-mounted water separator is still in place. If it is, select the 6.9L option and run the Wix 33811 filter - the factory separator handles water separation as designed. If your factory separator has been bypassed or removed, we strongly recommend selecting the 7.3L option instead, which lets you run the Wix 33380 with its built-in water separator and drain. The 1987 model year is a transition year and can have either setup depending on build date - verify your configuration before ordering. Will the factory 7.3L IDI fuel filter work with this head? No. The factory 7.3L IDI filter will not fit this conversion head. The correct filter for 7.3L applications is the Wix 33380, available as an add-on at checkout. For 6.9L applications, the correct filter is the Wix 33811. Does this install on a 7.3L IDI without modifications? The 7.3L application requires 2 longer mounting bolts - 3/8 x 4.5 inches - available as an optional add-on at checkout. It also requires a return line solution: either an early-style 6.9L return line kit sourced separately on your own, or the tee fitting available as an add-on at checkout. The 6.9L application installs directly with no modifications required. My 7.3L IDI has a hard start and a fuel smell - could this be the fuel heater? Yes - on a 7.3L IDI, a leaking fuel heater or cracked plastic bottom-mount water separator are among the most common causes of air ingestion at the filter head. When the heater O-ring fails it allows air into the fuel system, producing hard starting, rough idle, and sometimes stalling. A cracked plastic water separator on the bottom of the filter can do the same. The fuel smell typically appears first. This conversion head eliminates both the heater and the plastic separator in one install. What warranty does the PDP IDI fuel filter head come with? The PDP IDI Conversion Fuel Filter Head carries a lifetime warranty. If you are not satisfied for any reason, a full refund is available. What replaces part number PDPIDIFUELx? PDPIDIFUELx is the superseded part number for this kit. Current part numbers are PDPIDI6.9kit, PDPIDI6.9kitW/33811, PDPIDI7.3Kit, and PDPIDI7.3KitW/33380 - depending on application and whether you add the filter at checkout.
