IMPRESSIVE !!

I recently purchased a BMW X6 from this firm. I was very impressed by their sales team and set up. My next purchase will definitely be from Prime Motors.

Prime Motors old school English luxury used motor dealer

Prime Motors: used motor dealer with Old-School English Values in Hoddesdon 5 🌟 from me “

Prime Motors in Hoddesdon exemplifies the kind of reliable, straightforward service you’d expect from an old-school English dealer. My experience with Steve at Prime was nothing short of refreshing. Here’s how it all went down:

Commercial Culture:

• Honest, Straight-Talking Service: Working with Steve was a breath of fresh air—direct, professional, and no-nonsense, with vehicles priced to sell. In stark contrast, two other dealers we tried were anything but straightforward. First up, Mohammed, who tried to pass off an Audi A6 with a suspiciously flashy body kit and a hidden Cat D write-off history. Then came Ahmed, who offered a clocked Mercedes E-Class estate—talk about shady! Imagine trying to resolve an issue with those characters…

Pricing:

• Fair Pricing with No Haggling Needed: The Jaguar XF Shooting Brake was competitively priced, aligned with book and retail values. I did my homework, using Vehicle Score for a deep dive into MOT history, book value, and retail comparisons. Prime Motors’ price gave me a good deal while allowing the dealer a fair margin for costs like tax, prep, and staff. Jaguars, in particular, come with a heftier prep cost to bring them up to snuff, and Steve’s pricing reflected this.

Vehicle Quality:

• Realistic Expectations: Let’s be real—a £40K car depreciated to £10-15K is likely to need maintenance. That’s why you’re getting it for a fraction of the new price.
• Interior & Exterior: The interior was mint—pristine leather, unmarked cabin, and spotless cleanliness. Outside, paintwork was impeccable, with perfect alloys, good tires, and brakes all around.
• Mechanics: Great MOT history, low mileage, and strong service records—this was a gem.

Aftercare:
Aftercare is where Prime Motors really shines, and personally, I think this is more important than the sale. Let’s be honest—you only buy what you choose, unless you’re a lemming.

So what about this Jag …. Let’s set the scene , the old standing joke with German garages was that German Jaguar dealers like to sell their vehicles on Fridays, so when they break down on Saturday, the jaguars garage is closed.

Well, true to form, on its first voyage, my Jaguar had an electrical hiccup and died like a dodo in the forecourt.

Long story short, Steve arranged a recovery and even supplied a courtesy Mercedes C-Class. He was fully prepared to rewind the finance if the issue proved serious, but I decided to stick with it and see the repair through. Steve kept me informed at every step and was transparent, acknowledging that if it turned out to be an ECU issue, it might mean scrapping the car and they would take a hit on it. We both agreed to send it to Jaguar, who fast-tracked the repair, and, thankfully, it was a minor fix.

Last Thoughts:

Steve is a straight-talking Englishman selling luxury used cars that, like any other, might occasionally need repair—that’s why you’re getting them at a fraction of their original price.

He’s not Father Christmas handing out magical cars immune to wear, tear, and physics. If something goes wrong, own your choice and work with the dealer to sort it.

From my experience as an avid petrol head I’m more than happy to recommend Prime Motors. Thanks, lads!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!

How Prime Motors can uphold their glowing rating is beyond me. From start to finish the process was a shambles. To put things in perspective and give some context, I’m 22 and travelled over 250 miles to collect my Tesla Model 3 Performance Edition. The garage knew that I was travelling across the country for this car and had put a deposit down to secure it.
Upon arrival, there was a singular member of staff in on a Saturday morning dealing with all of the collections that day. I appreciate this can’t be helped as there was staff off sick and Joel was getting stressed jumping from customer to customer trying to accommodate for everyone. I was left to view the car for a while and then Joel popped over and asked what I thought, I told him I adored the car, understood it wasn’t a brand new car so I could live with the marks and scratches and minor dents around the car, however, what I couldn’t live with was the huge gaping crack in the windscreen. I told him that I was incredibly disappointed and how this got past prep was beyond me, he made some phone calls and told me that it had gone un-noticed and he’s assuming that it must have happened during prep. I’m not buying that for a minute, it wasn’t a tiny chip, it was a 5-10cm crack going multiple directions. I told him that it needs rectifying and I’ll buy the car, he spoke to his boss and the boss said he refuses to replace the windscreen, I said I’m happy to book in a replacement at my address at their cost but this wasn’t good enough. It was his way or the highway, he wanted me to pay for the windscreen via my insurance and he would cover the excess in cash as a “measure of goodwill”, how he said that with a straight face was beyond me. A measure of goodwill for me to replace the windscreen through my own insurance on a £22,000 car. Insane, especially with windscreen cost on this car being £1500+. I reluctantly agreed on this as I’d travelled such a way and the car was perfect in every other way.
On my way home, the car flashed up with a tyre pressure warning light - I had to pull over on the motorway that didn’t have a hard shoulder to check this out, the tyre appeared okay so I continued with my journey to the next service station and pumped up all of the tyres to the recommended PSI - this managed to get me home okay. Joel’s argument was that I should have called the garage and alerted them of the tyre issue when I pulled over. It was not safe to do so and I just brushed the issue off thinking it could genuinely just have lost pressure from being sat around in the cold so gave the benefit of the doubt. I am now having to put air in the back right tyre once or twice a week as there is clearly an issue that was there when the car was purchased.

I called Joel and let him know of this problem 26 days after I purchased the car, at first he made an effort to speak to his boss to see what he could do after I sent him the tyre size which was promising to me, after all I did them a huge favour saving them nearly £2000 getting the windscreen replaced - I wasn’t asking for much, simply a functioning tyre to replace the defective one I was given. Later on, he got back to me and told me to get the tyre repaired for roughly £20 and the garage could accept no responsibility for the tyre as it had been 26 days since purchase and I didn’t call them on my way home when the first problem occurred.
I took the tyre to get looked at, the first garage told me that tyres for Teslas are made specially with a foam interior that can’t be repaired. Another garage told me they’d have a look and see what they could do, they rolled the wheel over to me and showed me the inside. The cords were showing on the inside of the tyre and the tread was gone, there was no way in 26 days I could have caused that sort of damage. Obviously the tyre needed replacing there and then. On the day of collection he also said he needed to show me something else, and showed me a photo of the alloy which was cracked, the reason why it was losing air so often. I am now £300 out of pocket for a new tyre and have to also find somewhere to weld the alloy that I didn’t crack.

All I asked for was a £300 tyre that was defective at the point of sale, these guys will have millions of £ passing through their hands each year and couldn’t even offer to replace their faulty tyre they gave me. If their reputation means so much to them hopefully they will be in touch to rectify the issue and reimburse me. This certainly wasn’t the experience I was expecting when making a big purchase from such a prestige and well respected garage, hence why my current advice would be to avoid like the plague.

Very very poor customer service

Very very poor customer service. I had to get solicitors involved before anything was done. Bought a pickup which broke on my way from the dealers I kid you not. The next day Josh recommended getting filters changed which I done out of my own back even though they should have paid for this. Eventually got the pickup in to a garage recommended by prime motors however they refused to pay to fix it and I had to write constant emails back and forth for months and only when I got solicitors involved did prime motors move and pay for the repair which was a gear box problem this after the pickup being in the garage for 6 months due to prime motors consistently sending copy and paste emails sayings it’s not there responsibility. There was also gearbox codes that had been tempered with and not set right which the garage informed me among other issues including manifold clogging. I was never imbursed any money from this palaver despite promises and not being able to use the truck for 6 months, my advice; AVOID AVOID AVIOD

Appalling company.

The only reason I've given them one star is because I wasn't able to give zero.
Bought a car from them which, after a weeks ownership, developed several faults. Prime motors were not helpful at all. No after sales service, no help and they proved themselves to be untruthful and untrustworthy.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

UPDATE! 2/9/24
Today I received an email from them, as follows;

I trust this message finds you well. I wanted to bring to your attention a straightforward investment opportunity I’ve been engaged with over the past few months, which has proven to be quite profitable. Considering the present economic conditions, I thought it might be of interest to you too.

I’ve attached further details on how it operates (see attached). My recommendation would be to invest a few thousand pounds, give it a month or two, and then thank me later.

Kind Regards

Prime Motors

So, not only are they untrustworthy, they send scammy emails as well.

Would not buy again from this Dealer

Went to see a BMW 3 series estate,The Saleman was freindly and left us to look at the car and we test drove it. car looked ok. Just a few small issues that I asked to be fixed before we purchased. It needed a new Key as the spare was damaged and not usable the steering was out of alignment. The following week we went to collect it, but the steering had not been done and I did not check the Key, as I thought it had been done as I spoke to the Garage in the week prior to collecting. After a 2 days the Tyre pressure system started flashing up low tyre pressure. I stopped and pumped the tyres up thinking it just had not been used as was low. Not the case now three weeks later 2 of the sensors I have been told need changing as leaking and one tyre as they are run flats and it damaged the tyre. We also found a small sticker over a chip in the front screen that we had not seen before we took the car. Not sure if this was the Dealer or the last owner who covered up this chip. I feel the Garage did not do a great job of checking the car and I. am not sure how the RAC approve the Garage. So I now have to purchase a new Key at £250 a new screen at £100 Assess and 4 new TPMS Vales at £360 and a new tyre at £185. This car clearly did not have a quality check done and it leaves me thinking did the service get done, or is it just a paperwork exercise as the oil is black and not clear on the stick. So might have to have a service too. I am sorry but I would not recommend this Garage and I would Not buy another car from them. I will be speaking to the RAC about them putting their Name to this dealer.

Be very careful when buying from these…

Be very careful when buying from these people.
My partner bought a car from this place. They said the car was fine and if there’s any problems, all he had to do was to call them and they will fix it.
Partner only had the car for a month and it was broken for three weeks of that month. Whenever we went out, there seemed to be another problem with it.
Partner spoke to these people but was told that their guarantee only covered engine and gearbox.
Partner left a review and they called him and asked him to change it as they had a reputation to protect. After reading other reviews about this company, it seems that they certainly do have a reputation but for the occasional false-truth and for being unhelpful with their after-sales.

This garage needs to stop trading

This garage needs to stop trading, as the people working there are the most arrogant people you will ever come across, there definitely living up to Essex's name. We bought a van from them and turn out to be a pile of rubbish and botched up. done 288 miles in it broke down major engine issues mind you 244 miles of it was getting it from them to us. They have no after-sales what so ever won't do anything about it say it wear and tear..so much for 3 months warranty they give you is not worth a penny. The van stuck in a garage is not usable as it's going to cost over 1,000 pounds to fix maybe more, the garage here said it's not fit for purpose. Lucky for us it's on finance so we're kicking it back to them. Don't believe a word they say about vehicles as they talk the talk sell you rubbish take the money and don't want to know after if there is a problem. please don't listen to the 2 fools there Josh & Joel. Go somewhere else to save your self lot of hassles.. where taking this further with solicitors and trading standards. they also use to be known as MOVAR CARS LIMITED & SUPERNOVA SYSTEMS LIMITED which I've been told went bust due to the same kind of issues stay away from them.

Avoid at all costs. Worst car selling company in UK easy, at least from my experience. Sold me a car with 3k hidden bodywork damage, repainted etc. Terrible place and the owner is an absolute moron.
