The bikes are not as shown in the pictures online, they are in much worse conditions. As such the prices aren't actually aren't very good.
Moreover they advertise bikes on their website which are already actually sold to lure you in, which in fact you cannot buy. The ones that you can buy are a much worse deal.
Moreover, I wasted *a lot* of time:
1. The website is very glitchy, I had to contact the support, make a new account, get the bike transferred to the new account ... lots of time wasted.
2. I went to collect my bike, and it was not there.
3. I got in touch with support, and I was offered a different bike. I went to collect it and it was totally broken: gears not working, bike rack bent and wonky, brakes not working ...
4. Finally I travelled to meet with a mechanic, and I was offered to swap with a bike that had just been fixed. again, time wasted travelling and finding a new suitable bike that was actually working.
overall, several hours wasted, the bike is ok, the price is not that cheap but ok.
To be fair, I have had other experiences with OxBykes and they have been better, but this time it was really not ok.
The silver lining was the online support which was very efficient and the mechanics were polite and happy to help.
I had a very poor experience with OxBykes / Byke Ltd regarding a returned bike purchase.
I bought a bike (Challenge FXR252) and returned it immediately as it wasn’t suitable / not as described. Their own system later showed “Sale has been returned” and recorded a return date, and they issued a partial refund as account credit.
However:
I was not credited for returning the D-lock that was returned with the bike.
They deducted a “rental charge” even though this was a purchase return.
The refund was kept as OxBykes account credit, instead of being returned to the original payment method.
Months later, support claimed my return photos were blank/black and said they couldn’t confirm return unless they “recover” the bike, and suggested further charges may be deducted for mechanic recovery.
This is extremely frustrating, as their records already show the return was processed and the bike was returned within 2 days. It feels like the company makes refunds unnecessarily difficult and keeps customers’ money as internal credit.
I would not recommend purchasing unless you are comfortable with refunds being delayed/withheld and handled as store credit.
Bought a bike on Oct 12 for £170 and then returned it on Oct 13 in its original condition because I changed my mind. OxBykes claim that you can return your bike within 30 days, but after two weeks I had to contact them to try get the money back to my bank account. I confirmed that this is what I wanted and they confirmed that my request would be sent to the accounts team. I have followed up every 2-4 weeks since Oct 26 (when they confirmed that my request would be sent to accounts) and each time, they claim that my request is in queue or that they will forward my request to the accounts team, but nothing ever happens. I have requested multiple times for them to give me written confirmation that the accounts team have received my request and are working on it/have processed it, but they just tell me that they will forward my request to the accounts team. Same thing when I ask for the contact details of the accounts team or a manager.
For a company that was made by students for students, it's very disappointing that they're withholding £170 from somebody that is well within their consumer rights and OxBykes' return policy to get their money back, and quite frankly needs that money. Do not advertise a 30-day returns if you don't intend to stick to it — that is misleading and very very scammy! Reading the other reviews on here it seems like its a running issue. AVOID!

Clearly an absolute scam that is exploiting students like me who can’t afford anything better. Super disappointing because I wanted to support a local business. I’m now seeking advice from the financial ombudsman

Most importantly they have yet to refund my money for a bike I was never even given access to.
I am inclined to believe this service is a scam. If you want a second hand bike, go anywhere else.

AVOID!!!
Applied for a refund with their service team in mid-Oct., nothing has materialised except that they deducted a dubious amount from my credit.
They will ignore WhatsApp messages when no excuses can be given. What they've replied in the comment section is not true. Dishonesty, period.

I purchased a bike from Oxbykes on 3rd November and returned it after using it once, in the exact same condition. Their website says I am eligible for a full refund. However, it has been almost 4 weeks and I have still not gotten my money back. I have reached out to the team numerous times and each time they are only "checking" with their accounts team and never getting back. I would not suggest buying or returning anything from them. It is almost my full time job now to be after them for my money.

The bike had no air in the tyre and the chain fell off within 2 minutes of riding it. They charge very high prices for very poor, barely ridable bikes.

I used Oxbykes to attempt to purchase a used bike for my daughter’s birthday. On arrival at the pick up location, there was no information provided on exactly where the bike would be (among the 100’s chained up). On finding one bike which had the colour/model purchased, the bike was in a sorry state (rust, rips in seat) and worst of all a flat tyre. Not as pictured. I understand the model is user-to-user but for customers buying bikes, these need to be checked prior to pick up. Having paid £110 I was very disappointed and forced to quickly find an alternative through other means. Having agreed a money refund, promised within 2 weeks, I am frustratingly still waiting for the money to hit my account over 5 weeks later. This is having chased multiple times. As the previous reviewer I get the sense of overall disorganisation and poor billing, service and customer management. Suggest avoiding if looking to buy.

I only wish the bike's warranty didn't get voided as soon as your lock return appointment is scheduled.

Oxbikes agreed to purchase my old bike on 20th September this year. They inspected it and asked me to leave it with them at Wolfson College that day and the money would be transferred into my bank account within a week. The bike was old and the sale price was quite low so I proceeded in good faith. Despite numerous requests, I am still awaiting payment almost a month later. They have provided weak excuses and I just sense the operation is simply incompetent and extremely unorganised. I would strong recommend that anyone considering selling a bike does not work with them as they are not reliable.

only slight issue was the returning process which didn’t work several times but eventually went through. wasn’t too difficult in a pair but unlocking it and retaking all the pictures was a little frustrating with no answers from the support phone line or chat.

We had a few technical issues but the company was super quick to respond to texts and made it seamless! I will say the bikes were quite old and squeaked a lot, but it got the job done. Also, the process to verify felt slightly unnecessarily long

First off, slightly sub-par bikes, even for secondhand, but the prices are fair. I started with trying to rent a bike, but after charging me and making me go look for it, it wasn't at the indicated depot. The only kind of refund they offered was in the form of Oxbykes credit, which keeps you stuck with them. The fact that no real refunds are offered isn't made clear on their website.
The website is a buggy mess, confirmation emails don't get sent, and when I tried to get help from the Livechat they were quite slow to reply. Also extreme nosiness for the simple act of purchasing a SECONDHAND bicycle: they asked for a driving license, two emails, my phone number, a selfie, and student card.
At least I have a bike now, but be ready for a lot of needless complications with them.

OxBykes is honestly the best! From rentals to purchases, everything is so affordable and super easy to access. The workshop and support team are always there whenever I need help, which makes such a difference. I love that I can swap bikes anytime and get support any time of day. Pretty cheap and easy and to get a bike. And what is best, is that they recycle bikes. So all that rusty bikes that some one forget. They bring in to life again. Oxford it’s a city for ride. Don’t hesitate to click Ox.
