The store staff was not at all helpful. Ordered online instead and received the discount they were offering and free shipping. The store staff never offered anything.

I’d like to give this zero stars but…

I’d like to give this zero stars but that is not an option.
I purchased a chest from Oka and it arrived last Friday - broken. The movers did not even unpack the item. They took photos, contacted Oka and the item went back on the truck.

I spoke with Oka customer service twice that day to confirm that I wanted a credit.

After several days, I saw no credit posted to my account. I attempted to contact customer service multiple times and a recording stated that no one was available. Similarly, when I contacted Oka’s stores a recording stated that no one was available and instructed me to leave my name and phone number.

I learned today that the US company filed for bankruptcy. Oka apparently had no intention of issuing a credit, and I am owed $1,382.17. It appears that Oka knew they would be filing for Chapter 7 and decided to stiff their creditors - and their customers.

I will be lucky to get anything by way of reimbursement in a Chapter 7 liquidation. I am merely an unsecured creditor. I expect that many of your US customers are in this same situation.

You could have issued this credit days prior to your filing, but chose not to and just collapse it into your other debt. That is especially troubling. I will never again think of Oka as an honest and trustworthy company.

I would also point out that you opened your US business after - not during - COVID. I don’t know what factors caused your US business to fail, but COVID was not one.

Thank for your feedback.

We recently announced a proposal to restructure our UK business and operations. Like many retailers, over the past few years we have faced challenges from the aftermath of COVID-19 and the cost-of-living crisis. This coupled with our investment into our US business have placed significant financial pressures on the business.

After careful consideration, we have decided to take several measures to address this including an exit from the US market via a Chapter 7 filing.
As a result of the Chapter 7 filing, we have ceased all business operations in the US effective immediately.

As such refunds for pre-paid orders will be handled as part of the Chapter 7 process. A court-appointed trustee will be responsible for handling all questions regarding outstanding orders, refunds, and other issues. They will reach out to you in due course.

Items not in stock. No notification.

I placed an order and three months later some items still hadn’t shipped. No updates or correspondence of any kind. After calling customer service twice, I received an email days later that my order had been canceled because items were no longer in stock. This is the third time I’ve been allowed to purchase items that weren’t actually in stock only to have the order cancelled after I had to inquire about delays. It’s my last time shopping at OKA.

Where is my product... again?

This is my second time trying to get shades for lamps I ordered months ago. I was told when I re-ordered that they would arrive a few days ago. No status update, no email to say they have been shipped. Called the store for a status yesterday and have not heard back. No idea where they are or whether I will receive the product this time.
