A while back my partner and I heard about the NACA program from one of our friends. He and his wife bought a lovely home exactly where we are looking to buy a home.

Currently my partner and I are in the process of becoming NACA qualified ourselves. I won't lie and say the process doesn't require a lot of your time and most definitely a lot of your patience. Though anything worth the effort always requires that of a person. We look forward to the possibility we may be homeowners someday soon ourselves.

My experience has been great so far! Although I am just getting started with the process, everything seems to be moving along quickly and smoothly. My counselor has been very organized, knowledgeable about the product, and helpful in explaining the steps and requirements needed to be successful.

I appreciate the guidance and support I have received so far. I look forward to completing the process and taking the exciting next step toward becoming a homeowner!

After attending the meeting, they call you to push you to go to the NACA website to register and login so that they can get you to make the membership payment. Know this, you are required to register and pay membership fees along with credit report fees through the portal prior to actually being able to see everything that is required from you. After paying, then and only then are you allowed to move through the portal and see what documents and/or information is required. At that point, we find out that we must have our landlord not only complete a document but also have it notarized. In addition, that is when we realized that we must hook up all of our bank accounts to the portal, allowing them access to view and monitor our spending habits. This must be done using a passcode so that NACA and their staff can continuously view your accounts. (You should know that not all financial intuitions will allow this. When I attempted to connect my second bank account my financial intuition refused and informed me that it is not safe to do this in this day and age) We also then found out that when they said you can pay rent by money order this comes with stipulations. Yet this was not clearly stated at the meeting. They require you to register to vote but then require that you not just give them proof of voter registration...but they also require that you literally tell them what party you are registered with. Yes, they want to know if you are a democrat, republican or unaffiliated voter. Why do they need to know your party status? So that they can discriminate against members of a certain party? All Unacceptable. We should be able to see all the requirements before we make payment for credit check fees and not have to tell them our party affiliation. Also, the portal is a joke. It took the financial information for one of our accounts and added it to the other persons tab within the portal, doubling our total savings. Seriously? I sent emails and made phone calls, left messages...all in an effort to try to remedy this. I received No return call and No replies to my email. There is zero customer service. They just want your money. We disconnected our accounts from the portal and replaced all of our information with letters and numbers because that is the only way to remove your information from their system once it is there. And No there will never be a credit check for either one of us but we will never see them return the credit check fees. Sadly, the only recourse is to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.

I like the fact that they will assist in me getting a home, BUT the application process is difficult if you do not have a personal computer.

We’ve had a great experience with NACA so far! Our counselor has been very helpful in guiding us through the process and explaining what we need to do to move forward with our application. She has been responsive to our calls and emails, and we truly appreciate her support and guidance every step of the way. My husband and I are excited about the next steps and look forward to continuing our journey toward homeownership with NACA.

My experience with NACA has been extremely frustrating, primarily due to the lack of communication, organization, consistency, professionalism, and accountability.

Throughout this process, I have repeatedly attempted to submit requested documentation, both through the online portal and by email, only to receive additional requests for information that had already been provided. There have also been significant delays in communication, sometimes spanning weeks, with little to no clarification regarding the status of our application.

One of the most concerning aspects of this experience has been the constant conflicting information provided by NACA representatives. One employee will provide one set of instructions, only for another employee to provide completely different information. In multiple instances, neither explanation has been accurate, leaving us with unanswered questions and no clear direction. Even more frustrating is the apparent inability to find someone within the organization who can provide a reliable, accurate answer. Applicants should not have to navigate contradictory instructions or spend countless hours trying to determine which information, if any, is correct.

I also want to specifically address my experience with a representative named Therese. Her attitude and manner of communication have been particularly disappointing. In an already stressful and confusing process, the last thing applicants need is to feel as though their questions or concerns are an inconvenience. My interactions with Therese left me feeling dismissed rather than supported. Regardless of how busy or demanding a position may be, professionalism, patience, and basic courtesy should never be optional. Applicants deserve to be treated with respect, especially when they are simply trying to understand and fulfill the organization's requirements.

As a business owner, I understand the importance of documentation, deadlines, and proper procedures. However, I also understand that effective communication, knowledgeable staff, and accountability are essential when working with clients. It is unreasonable to expect applicants to meet every requirement promptly while the organization itself struggles to provide timely responses and consistent guidance.

Purchasing a home is already a major financial and emotional undertaking. Applicants should not have to continuously chase down responses, repeat completed steps, receive conflicting instructions, or wonder whether their documentation has even been received.

While I appreciate the opportunities NACA aims to provide, the execution of the program needs significant improvement. Better communication, properly trained representatives, respectful interactions, consistent information, organized document handling, and greater accountability would make a tremendous difference for families trying to navigate this process.

A program designed to help families achieve homeownership should not make the process unnecessarily stressful through disorganization, misinformation, unprofessional behavior, and a lack of communication.

NACA is truly a beacon of hope for individuals and families who might otherwise find homeownership out of reach or feel overwhelmed by the process. Beyond making homeownership more accessible, NACA takes the time to educate, guide, and empower you every step of the way. That level of hand-holding and support is invaluable, especially for first-time homebuyers.

I especially want to recognize Sylvia Renard, who has been nothing short of exceptional. She is compassionate, incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely invested in helping people succeed. Her guidance makes what could be an intimidating process feel manageable and achievable.

I'm grateful for NACA's mission and for people like Sylvia who bring that mission to life. Homeownership is more than a financial milestone; it's an opportunity to build stability and a future. NACA gives people real hope that it's possible.

I am truly grateful to have Reginald as my NACA counselor. He is incredibly thorough, attentive, and dedicated throughout the entire process. He consistently goes above and beyond to advocate for me and help me work toward getting approved. His support, guidance, and commitment have made a meaningful difference, and I genuinely appreciate all the time and effort he has invested in helping me. The thing I loved the most about my experience with NACA was how straight forward the eligibility process was. Shout out to my counselor Jasmine E! She is so personable, knowledgeable and professional! Great combination of attributes for a counselor to have! Looking forward to my "next steps" with her at the helm!

I am currently in the process of getting an approval from NACA and the process has been fairly easy. Although it is a lot of paperwork and can be overwhelming, the site is easy to navigate and breaks down all the steps. My counselor has been great with helping me through the process and ensuring I have all the info I need. I look forward to continuing this process and hopefully getting my first home.

So far the process has been good. There are several things you to do in order to prepare for the process so I do recommend preparing ahead of time.

My experience going through the NACA Homeownership Program has been a very positive and rewarding one. The process required patience, preparation, and commitment, but the guidance and support I received throughout the program helped me stay focused on my goal of becoming a homeowner.

The NACA team helped me better understand the homebuying process, budgeting, finances, and the responsibilities that come with homeownership. Although there were times when the process felt challenging or took longer than expected, I appreciated having people available to answer my questions and help me understand what I needed to do next.

Going through the program taught me the importance of being financially prepared and staying organized. It also gave me confidence that homeownership was achievable with
the right preparation and persistence.

Overall, I am grateful for the opportunity to go through the NACA Homeownership Program. I would recommend it to others who are serious about becoming homeowners and are willing to put in the time and effort required. I am currently going thru the process of getting a loan thru Naca (Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America ). So far the process has been very smooth. It is a long process but with the help of the counselors they make it less stressful and are always ready to help you . I truly recommend Naca to everyone.

My experience with NANA Houston office so far has been very positive. My counselor is Erika De Jesus. She has made genuine effort to address my concerns. More review to come in future.

My experience with the NACA Homebuyer Program so far has been incredibly valuable and educational. Going into the process, I knew I wanted to become a homeowner, but I didn’t fully understand how much preparation goes into presenting yourself as a financially prepared and responsible buyer.

My counselor, Livier Tinoco, has been extremely patient and has taken the time to walk me through each step of the process. She has helped me understand what it really means to build and curate a complete file for an underwriter—not simply gathering documents, but understanding what those documents say about my financial habits and readiness for homeownership.

One of the most valuable parts of the experience has been reviewing my spending and financial activity over the past six months and learning to look at it from an underwriter’s perspective. The process has helped me become much more intentional about my finances and understand how budgeting, savings, payment history, and everyday spending habits can demonstrate that I am prepared to take on the responsibility of owning a home.

I also appreciate that NACA is not presented as some shortcut to buying a home. It is a real program with a real process, and you have to be willing to put in the work, stay organized, provide documentation, and understand your finances. What makes the program so valuable is that it helps you identify and strategically navigate the different pathways, requirements, and opportunities available to maximize the benefits of a first-time homebuyer program.

So far, my experience has shown me that the NACA program is absolutely legitimate and that there is real value behind what it offers. More importantly, I feel like I’m not just working toward getting approved for a mortgage—I’m learning how to prepare myself financially to be a successful homeowner. I’m very grateful for Livier’s patience, guidance, and willingness to explain the “why” behind the process, and I’m excited to continue working toward becoming a homeowner.

My husband and I have been working through the NACA homebuying program, and our experience has been encouraging and educational. Buying a home can feel intimidating, especially when you're trying to understand all of the financial requirements and documentation involved, but having a structured process has helped us feel much more prepared.
NACA has encouraged us to take a close look at our finances, stay focused on our goals, and make sure we're truly prepared for homeownership rather than simply rushing into buying a house.
The process does require effort and patience, but we're now getting closer to our goal and becoming increasingly excited about finding the home that's right for us. We appreciate the assistance we've received along the way and the opportunity NACA provides families who are working toward homeownership.

Since starting this process in March of 2026 it has been an experience. What attracted me to NACA was the fight for the rights of homebuyer and their commitment to the people in securing a place to call HOME.
