Mid-levels….RUN!!!!
I was offered a NP position at My Dr Now on two separate occasions. My first interview was with the CEO and his medical director. The CEO did 95% of the interview which was a huge red flag that screamed micromanager. Initially, it was an interesting approach to do walk-ins, urgent care, and family medicine. After that interview, they set me up to speak with one of their mid level providers which was basically about billing patients at the highest level possible. In order to reach that level, you have to spend at least 45-60 minutes with each patient and/or perform complete physical exams, blood work, labs..etc. If someone comes in with a sore throat, they want/expect providers to do a complete physical exam and other unnecessary labs and tests just to bill a higher level. It’s unethical and borderline illegal what they are doing and sooner or later, CMS as well as other major insurance carriers are going to investigate. Why do you think they have such a high turnover rate with NPs/PAs? The CEO is a licensed physician that’s trying to make as much money as possible off the backs of mid-level providers and asking/encouraging them to perform exams and tests that aren’t necessary in order to get paid the max from insurance companies.
