Hired a Lewis 2 for a five day trip on the coast.
Handover was good, left the yard feeling like it was a great experience.
However, my experience was that this firm have made every effort to effectively steal the deposit i left on the rental.
I have attached some correspondence, which is just rude and uncalled for.
2/3 times per day i had to crawl under the Motorhome and reconnect both grey and black waste pipes as they was not secured properly. Dirty and shouldn't be happening. Previous reviews mention this.
I spent days upon days with the vehicle chiming at me whilst driving, because the side door seal had blown out and it would not sit properly. This drove us nuts not only with the vehicle chiming every 5 seconds that a door was ajar, but all the road noise coming in. Not a single apology or care from this firm.
The kitchen tap fell off in my hand, again no care from them.
The toilet cassette lock broke with the smallest amount of pressure whilst removing it.
Fair there was a crack in the rear panel which i was charged £500 for and i accept.
They however, a week later, sent me an invoice for EXACTLY £1,200 and retained my deposit.
- £500 Rear panel repair (fair)
- £75 Plastic kitchen sink handle (excuse me?)
- £125 Plastic toilet lock mech
- £500 to replace a power bank because it was scratched
I spoke with their in-house mechanic on drop off and he showed me the fix for the toilet and tap handle there on the spot, so why i have been charged £200 who knows?
£500 for a power bank, which they havn't proved they have disposed of so i'm assuming it's still being used while they enjoy my 500 quid.
I'm trying to claim back the excess on insurance, i simply asked for the documentation the insurance company required, because they would not accept the email of the booking i had, and i was threatened with a £50 per email charge, REALLY?!
They obviously don't want to officially justify these outrageous amounts to an insurance firm, thinking £50 per email would scare me off.
Seriously, reconsider a rental here.
Absolutely gorgeous motorhome. Spotless inside and out. Spacious, comfortable and luxurious. Drove from Manchester to pick up and toured the Highlands. Lovely to drive and manoeuvre. All the amenities you need to go off gride. Staff at the pick up were friendly and helpful. Explained everything before we embarked on our adventure. Worth every penny. We will be back! Thanks!

Motorhome was spotless, we hired one specifically pet friendly which I understand they have separate vans for. We requested some extra items (espresso pot!) and a few other things which they were able to provide me with. The location of this company is so handy for myself, the staff were so friendly and helpful as I had a lot of questions being the first time doing the route. The trip was wonderful around the NC500 just wish I could have stayed longer, will definitely do it again and would return in the same type of van as I felt so comfortable and safe in it
We hired a motorhome from Motorhome Escapes for a special family trip with my elderly and disabled nana — and the experience was nothing short of a nightmare.
1. Grey Waste Pipe Was Faulty on Day 1
Within hours of our trip starting, we discovered the grey water waste pipe was leaking badly, meaning we couldn’t use the shower or sink for the entire holiday. This was a huge issue as we had booked a premium motorhome specifically for the on-board shower due to accessibility needs. When we contacted their technician, we were told to “buy duct tape and fix it ourselves.” That’s the level of support we received — on a premium hire.
2. Motorhome Advertised as Having a TV – It Didn’t
The vehicle was advertised with a TV, which we relied on for our grandmother while we were out. On collection, we were simply told, “it’s not been fitted yet – the vehicle is too new.” So why advertise it? This is blatant false advertising.
3. We Were Given a Bent Boot Key That Snapped
About an hour into our journey, a warning light came on. When we tried to open the boot, the bent key snapped. We were stuck waiting over an hour for someone to come out and let us in. It was clear the key was already damaged, and should never have been handed over to us in that state.
4. No Proper Handover or Instructions
We were shown very little at pickup — we weren’t told how to work the seats, electrics, or even how to turn the water system on. One of their own staff later admitted to us that the handover was incomplete and that the employee needed more training. We had to make multiple calls during the trip just to figure out how basic things worked.
5. Lack of Basic Items in a ‘Premium’ Motorhome
For a top-tier rental, it lacked basic items: no step to help get in, no coffee mugs, no sieve, no mop (it rains a lot in Scotland — floors get dirty fast), and the kitchen utensils were cheap and mismatched.
6. The Managers Ignored All Emails Until a Credit Card Dispute Was Raised
After returning the vehicle, we sent several emails detailing all of the above — Motorhome Escapes ignored every one of them. It was only when we raised a dispute with AMEX that we finally got a response — and even then, they tried to claim we had caused the damage to the waste pipe (which is odd, given they refunded our full deposit — if we’d damaged it, they would’ve kept it!).
We have evidence and time-stamped photos, and I’ve now taken legal advice confirming they’ve likely breached multiple consumer laws — including the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations.
Motorhome Escapes do not care about customer service or accountability. They mislead, misadvertise, and ignore complaints until financial pressure is applied. They also lie through their teeth to avoid refunding.
Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere. This company ruined a holiday that was supposed to be a special and accessible trip for a vulnerable family member.

AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!
Terrible service from start to finish.
Returned the van a bit late due to a family issue and the pressure I was put under was immense! Trying to tell me they had a customer waiting for it at 1pm when pick up isn't till 3pm on there website a day emails. They then proceeded to go round the van pointing things out that were wrong with it and we hadn't even used them! They gave us no chemical for the toilet so didn't use it and accused us of leaving it dirty!
Just a cheap money making scheme. Will never hire from this company again.

The motorhome was clean & well equipped.
We had a briefing before leaving but still had to find alot out for ourselves. The briefing video beforehand said that table & chairs would be in the back luggage area which was not the case so unable to sit outside in the various campsites. If we would of known we would of brought our own. The hose supplied did not fit on any of the taps on the campsites so had to purchase an attachment.
On our model the front seats did not turn round so limited room at the table.
The pull down bed sneaked when driving. Had to use tea towels to stop this.Overall a good experience but next time would take in choosing a motorhome model more suited to us

The Arran II Camper Van 🚐
1 week hire NC 500
The Office
We picked up our camper van, and Debbie went through the quite detailed instructions on use.
As with these things we still had to work out quite a few things for ourselves.
I put in two calls to the office to clarify the uninsured road’s position on the NC 500, as we only found this out after picking up the camper.
The uninsured no go roads referred to motor homes, but we had a smaller camper van.
Having called twice, and the office staff not knowing the answer, said they’d find out, and call back.
No calls back.
The Camper Van
The camper van was quite well equipped, but plastic cups and plates would be better (noise reduction).
The bed configuration was quite clumsy, and took a while to sort out, and as I’m 6’ tall found it wasn’t long enough for me.
The one pillow provided with the linen pack also wasn’t enough for me, as I prefer two (I should have asked for an extra pillow).
It was difficult to open the back door from the inside as the cooker position restricted access to the door handle.
As a none regular camper van driver, it would have been a fantastic, besides the wing mirrors, if the van had a rear view “mirror” wired up to a rear camera, to see more clearly what’s behind you whilst travelling forward. Maybe other vans have these!!
The van did rattle quite a lot whilst driving, but not sure if down to roads, or van build!!

Risposta di Motorhome Escapes
Staff were helpful and the camper was more than adequate and very well equipped. My only issue with the camper was the crockery, would be better if a good quality plastic was used rather than actual crockery. The reason for this is the noise when travelling and having to wrap everything up after each stop in towels to prevent damage and noise.
We have visited Scotland many times over the last 30 years but this was the first time in a camper.
Plus points are obviously staying at some of the most amazing places and waking up looking onto the beautiful beaches of Islay and the isolated lochs in the highlands were a real high point.
Negatives. The larger campers are a tight squeeze on many Scottish roads and some bus drivers seem to see campers as a target! Also crazy hard to find the chemical toilet cleaner, Someone needs to tell camp sites to stock it!
Overall we had a great time but if we do it again I will certainly get a size smaller van.

Terrible. We had an accident in the van (not our fault). We brought it back immediately and cut our holiday short. We obviously agreed to pay the damage costs. They have taken £1000’s from my credit card. I have asked numerous times for receipts/invoices for proof of costs as they are excessive. I have emailed and called, but nothing back. Do not touch this company.

Absolutely brilliant company and excellent motorhome hire. Staff were very helpful and gave such thorough instructions on how to use the motorhome. It was immaculate, fully equipped with all we needed and everything worked so well. Beds were very comfy and the black out curtains were brilliant! My husband enjoyed driving and said it was very straightforward, especially as it was automatic and the apple car play was a great bonus! Would highly recommend!

We hired a motorhome for myself, my fiancée and our two dogs (one small one medium sized). They advised the MULL which was the perfect size for us to have space to live and relax! Customer service was excellent from enquiring all the way to returning. Really lovely knowledgeable staff who made the whole experience a lot smoother.
Had the best time, Scotland is beautiful which of course helped! Thank you to the whole team, we will be recommending you to everyone we know who wants to give campervanning a go!
Motorhome was beautiful ! Well equipped everything we needed ! Very modern too Staff on hire site were so friendly, beds inside motorhome home were very comfortable, husband found the motorhome very easy to drive for first time driving this type of vehicle
Just returned from a week touring in Scotland, the motor home was wonderful, comfy bed, comfy seat, good cooking area and a great fridge. Everything was explained thoroughly by Michelle and she made the booking process so easy, during this time she always answered my calls with any queries I had. The £1200 deposit for any damages was back in my account the same day that we returned the motor home. Altogether a great experience and would definitely do it again.
Staff were very friendly and attentive during the whole experience from enquiry, booking and collection/handover. The motorhome itself was quite a tight squeeze for 2 adults, 2 teenagers and a dog. This van was a 6 berth but really could only accommodate 4 at a push. Storage was a premium and it wasn't ideal to have your crockery stored in a washing up basin on the bathroom floor. A good suggestion would be to invest in some melamine dining sets that can be easily stored within the appropriate cupboard space. The same could be said for the glasses. These again could be easily replaced by plastic glasses instead of wrapped in numerous dish towels. All in all we had a pleasant holiday and did enjoy our experience. A big thank you to Michelle and her team for all their help.
Hiring a motorhome for a recent trip proved to be an exceptional experience, blending the comforts of home with the adventure of travel. From the outset, the rental process was smooth and straightforward. The rental company offered a variety of motorhome options, catering to different needs and budgets, making it easy to select one that suited our group size and travel plans.
The motorhome itself was impeccably clean and well-maintained, with all the amenities one might need for a comfortable journey. The kitchen was fully equipped, allowing us to prepare meals on the go, and the sleeping areas were surprisingly spacious and cozy. The added benefit of a bathroom and shower ensured we could stay off the beaten path without sacrificing comfort.
Driving the motorhome was a pleasant surprise; it handled well on both highways and smaller roads. The built-in GPS and user-friendly controls made navigation easy, and the ample storage meant we could bring along all our essentials without feeling cramped.
Once again Graham Michelle Richard! Wonderful customer service !
Called in over bank holiday weekend looking to buy a motorhome,I asked if I could look at the motorhomes for sale but was told that I could only view vehicles if I had made an appointment there were no other customers there so they were not run off their feet, really sorry I bothered the man who dismissed me like I had done something wrong! I will not be back to bother him again !!

Great time having weekend break wild camping up north with the family. 6 berth van for 4 of us worked well, very comfortable and had most things we needed, perhaps a larger generator would have helped but otherwise everything was to a very high standard. Good customer service too.
BEWARE....Some consumer rights are not applicable to motor home hire.
Non refundable deposit -. stated on their TandCs (including consumer rights of 14 day cooling down period)- this appears to be absolute, even if it feels unfair.
I've learnt this the hard way...
Yes, I confirmed I am happy to accept the non refundable deposit situation. This was based on the information on their website .
My husband and I had booked this van based on the NC 500. We had helpful advise with choosing the right Van for our needs. Which left us really excited about our holiday for August.
At no point on the phone or through our emails was I STRONGLY advised against taking the route.
Three days after booking, we received an email from Motorhome escapes expressing that they STRONGLY advise that this route is not taken due to it's unsuitablabily for a camper vans and during this busy period.
The route is what we booked it for, understanding the situation and not wanting to explore areas we've done before, we asked to cancel, and as they STRONGLY ADVISED we thought they may consider a giving us a refund, especially as it was only 6 days after booking and 3 days since they sent their email.
Also to note: It doesn't state that it is STRONGLY ADVISED to not take this route on their website; we wouldn't have booked it had we have understood this before.
I asked as a good will gesture, as it's not stated on the website and we hadn't been informed beforehand, could we have a refund.
Again the answer is no. They STRONGLY ADVISED,and have not said you cannot do the NC500.
I 'STRONGLY ADVISE' this particular company to flag that the route is STRONGLY ADVISED against, before allowing the customer to part with money, this way the customer doesn't feel let down, or have reason not to not trust you.
Transparency is key, it does not feel that you have been fully transparent with me which is why I requested the refund. (Informing me after I have paid is not transparency)
If this was a situation where it was unavoidable I would have understood, such as short notice or road closures - but there were a number of occasions I could have been told before parting with money. Instead I received emails such as book before you miss out, adding additional pressure to book quickly.
