Mother Hubbard in Lancaster is categorically the worst fish and chip shop I’ve ever eaten at and there’s been plenty!

I thought I’d give them a try as it’s new in town and a few items on their menu caught my eye online.

I ordered the dynamite chicken wings, adding chips for an extra £1.50 as advertised.

The shop was empty so I sat in and waited about 15 minutes for my order. The chicken was breadcrumbed and over cooked and didn’t come with any of the advertised dynamite sauce and wasn’t in the slightest bit spiced, maybe it is the missing sauce that’s the spicy element! Chips, which I was charged full price for and not the advertised extra £1.50 were big, fat, warm and bone dry!

All in all a pretty shocking experience and not one that I will ever repeat!

The Walthamstow mother and hubbards worst everrrr. The way they treat their customer and staff is digusting. The manager is rude and has no managing skills at all. It is owned by a family pretty sure its a franchise horrible service they dont even wash their hands nasty people and nasty food.

What a let down… was really looking forward to the doors opening in the new Bury branch but the full experience in particular the main event being the food was disappointing. Even at 50% off it was horrible with everything being oily, greasy and overcooked. Don’t get me started on any of the sides… disgusting. When food is made without love and care it shows in the end product and crucially the taste. Stick to your local chippy (in our case in our neighbour town of Rochdale). Better for your pocket and far tastier.

Tried the Burton branch. I ordered a spicy chicken burger and chips. My son had a chicken wrap with chips.
Food was absolutely delicious. Wasn't waiting too long either. Food cooked as requested without sauce etc.
I paid around £16.50 for two meals with 2 teas. Definitely worth it compared to kfc and burger king.
Staff were lovely. Most working in the social sector could do with taking a leaf out of this woman's book. Pure professional and friendly. Not seen customer service as good as this in donkeys years.

Mediocre fish and chips thrown at you in a cardboard box, not a plate, with a wooden knife and fork to eat them with, Tomato sauce at 35p per sachet after paying outrageous price for the meal plus foul pop in a can no glass supplied, never again.

Spicy food not advertised. We bought a chicken burger and a fish wrap for our children and these were extremely spicy. My husband tried to eat those ,so not complete waste of money..but oh my gosh it was impossible to eat. No information displayed when order placed. Absolutely rubbish and waste of money.

Do not order from here!! Stay far away!! Disgusting customer service when called to find out where the order was as just eat claimed it to be delivered they told us to call the driver as it's a driver problem and was huffy and rude when asked for the number, we then called and the number was not recognized so when we called back for the second time they were extremely rude telling us it's our problem and Uber talked over us when we tried to explain the issue and then hung up on us! Absolutely dreadful customer service and handling off issues so rude disrespectful and quick to point blame anywhere but themselves or help with the issue so we have no delivery, I'd urge you to go anywhere but here

Tried the Walthamstow branch. Had spicy fish, chicken burger and beef and onion pie, chips with gravy and curry sauce. Everything was well cooked and really delicious. Gas a varied selection of foods unlike other places around. Desserts look great, not tried yet but my son enjoyed cornflakes tart with custard.

We visited the new Dunstable store for the first time and had a sit down meal there. The place was nice and clean and as comfortable as you'd expect a sit down 'chippy' to be with good wheelchair access for my disabled wife. But we had quite a poor server experience. Initialy taking the order incorrectly then when serving didn't allow for our 2 seperate meals, ie, 1 serviette, 1 knife and fork, 1 set of condiments and no milk with the coffee which was so strong it was undrinkable anyway. The chips were fantastic, hard to beat in fact, but the battered sausages were extremly greasy. Overall we left disapointed with the experience and considering there are far superior options elsewhere close by are unlikely to return.

Ordered takeaway, in Stoke, absolutely lovely. Not sure about all the bad reviews (although these are different areas), as they seem a far cry from what I and others have experienced. Fish was fresh, we ordered the spicy one, and we were very impressed. Non greasy, batter was light and crisp. Will order again.

Stale chips, mushie peas that had been sat there since morning by the look of then, should not have gone there waste off money

£20 for a bag of cold fish and chips, bad start. Decent peice of fish, not Cod or Haddock, but totally overcooked dry and bland. Chips were appalling, undercooked hard and dry. Potatoes left out of water to long prior to cooking, unappealing dark staining. All this investment in new outlet down the drain, will be gone by Christmas.

Had the pie meat and potato but was disappointed it was soggy and undercooked chips were nice also had jam roly poly which i dont recommend it was dry and
not what i expected glad it came with custard that's the only highlight

Mother Hubbard on Walford Road Birmingham. They started off well but slowly started to decline. The sizes of the fish becoming about a 3rd of what they once was.
Taking the costumer as fools by adding extra batter with hallow space in the middle.

Second visit in two weeks at Baildon outlet.
Two young uninterested girls serving, not very polite, got order wrong, fish undercooked again with soggy batter. Very disappointing to see such a large investment of capital about to be flushed away!!
Looking at other comments we are not alone.
I await your response.

Served me waferthin CRISPS as scallops. Then Argue back. Refuse to come out and even LOOK at what i'd been served. Shouting through the hatch. Gobby, Claiming '1t's what we always served - oh, we can do another but it's the Cutter. They are all the same' - so my MEMORY is at fault and I'm THICK too... RUDE, LAZY and a LIAR (young blonde woman) The counter staff were cringing. Great CC top notch.

WAS one of the best Chippies in HX. I've been going there over half a decade. Eaten THAT MEAL more than 50 times. They are expensive, always well worth it and the chips were good this time (not so with reviews below)
£4 is still a lot for the Tiny 'chip-sauce deal' their Scallop are the most expensive in the Area. Also normally worth it. Who is killing Your Business, Mother Hubbard?
