Our 3 Step Process to Give Your Child the Best Start:

2. Let our age-appropriate, sequential, inclusive music and movement program provide a nurturing and fun space for you and your child to make social connections, develop confidence and be free to fully self-express.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review and we agree, time flies when you are having fun! Our classes for 5-15 month olds run for 30 minutes. This is an optimal time to match babies’ stage of development and allow them to maintain focus throughout the session. Each lesson for this age group comprises a variety of activities so that babies can experience music in different ways; instrumental activities, dances with carers, lap plays, parachute activities, prop and puppet activities. Repetition is very important in early years education as it is only through repetition that we learn. With that in mind, each lesson includes a combination of material from previous weeks alongside new activities. Additionally, for those students who want to take learning further, or enjoy our classes for longer, we include an online course with every enrolment so you can enjoy our classes at home for hours on end. We've loved coming to Mini Maestros
We've loved coming to Mini Maestros. Our son (and even by daughter as a bystander) has got so much out of the music classes. He's really enjoying them.
I would like to give some constructive feedback on the yellow Mini Maestros bag and the bumblebee toy. Both these items are synthetic. We are in an environmental crisis, so to be still using plastic products is really behind the times. It any other situation i would've refused the bag and the toy but it's very difficult when not given the option. It would be great to see Mini Maestros using material made from recycled natural fibres.
If I'm really frank, I really don't like my child bringing the bumblebee in our home because you can visibly see the tiny yellow synthetic fibres coming unattached. This is dropping microplastics in and around our home and the natural environment (also potentially inhaled by children). There is so much information available about the dangers microplastics pose to our health and the natural world.
I hope you can reconsider both these plastic items.
The music class is awesome though. Thank you.

A wonderful introduction to music
I have absolutely loved watching both my children enjoy Mini Maestros over the years with Jess & Jo. It's truly been a wonderful introduction to music. And the perfect way to lay down a positive foundation for them to keep growing their love of music & learning. They have so much fun, learn tonnes & their confidence grows. We are also thankful for all the beautiful friendships we've made along the way. We highly recommend Mini Maestros in Gisborne!

We are not quite sure about what you are getting at because we observed that Miss F and her carer enjoyed the classes attended this term (her fifth term with us) and Miss F joined in all the activities and achieved learning milestones just as the other children did. Did not meet expectations
I was excited to start music classes for my toddler, however I found the classes did not meet my personal expectations.
I thought the exposure to musical instruments was extremely limited, possibly one instrument for 1-2 songs, but not letting the kids familiarise themselves with the instrument any longer.
I found the classroom itself was not set up for toddlers, the room was not child-proofed and one experience in particular kept me from coming back - a white board leaning against a cupboard fell on my daughter's head, with the response from the instructor being "that should teach her not to do that again" (E.g. not touch the whiteboard that was unsecured in what was supposed to be a toddler environment where the kids were allowed to move around in).
Overall, I won't be returning, which is frustrating as I've heard of positive experiences of Mini Maestros in other locations.

We are sorry to hear the classes didn’t meet your expectations. Our education program is aimed at building overall musical skills and appreciation and, being based on the best musical pedagogy, focuses on a child’s own body and voice as being the child’s primary musical instrument. A selection of age-appropriate percussion instruments are used in classes to reinforce the concept of steady beat and develop gross and fine motor skills. Some of our classes for older age groups will explore the sounds made by other instruments, but exposure to many different musical instruments is not the purpose of our program as that, in itself, does not develop fundamental musical skills.
We are very conscious of classroom safety and this is an important part of classroom management. With parents or carers participating in the classes with their children we can aim for the safest possible learning environment. Part of our teachers’ equipment includes a portable whiteboard. This is used at floor level to illustrate things such as basic music notation or focus on pre-reading skills. We have followed up the incident to which you refer with the teacher (once of our most loved and experienced teachers) and it was unfortunate that in this instance your little one pulled on the board but thankfully the board is very light, and it was a minor incident without any harm or tears.
Please be assured we pride ourselves on providing a safe environment for the children to learn in and we hope that you give Mini Maestros a second chance at a later date. 🐝🎶💕 Mini Maestros
Lots of fun to be had at Mini Maestros!
My kids have all loved Mini Maestros! It is a well designed education program with fun and learning seamlessly intertwined. Kids love the opportunity to use instruments, ribbons and other hands on materials, as well as the predictable routines of the classes.

Too expensive for the content delivered
I was offered 3 free trial sessions.
I attended the first session and it did not meet my expectations at all. The session leader wasn't confident, the activities were disjointed and there wasn't enough repetition in each activity. There wasn't much live music used, mostly recorded so I felt that for the cost, it was not value for money at all.
I informed the teacher I wouldn't be returning and then she harassed me to pay for the session, which was supposed to have been a free trial.

Thank you for your feedback. We are disappointed to hear that the session you attended late last year (in fact the first class after lockdown) did not meet your expectation. Once we became aware that you were under the impression that the session was a free trial we did not ask you for payment again. We are sorry that it was not clear for you that you were attending a regular paid class. As this was the first babies class at that venue after lockdown our teachers were taking extra care in the classroom given their responsibility to ensure the classroom was safe, sanitised, that carers were wearing masks, not singing in the group that all were socially distanced, and the class was otherwise conducted in accordance with our COVID Safe Classes Plan. I am sure you can understand some hesitation on the first class back after lockdown; the conditions we were working under at the time were highly unusual with many in our community operating with heightened senses and expectations If you had continued with your three week trial, you may have been able to experience increased confidence not just from the teacher but from others in the class as things settled back into a more “normal” environment.
In accordance with Government directions at the time regarding restricting group singing, our COVID Safe Classes plan required our teachers to use more recorded music to accompany our structured activities than normal, instead of singing. Happily the restrictions in this regard have eased since, plus our teachers are more experienced in presenting our program within the remaining constraints of our Safe Classes plan (eg no sharing of instruments) and so you will find that our program again links and flows freely from one activity to the next as it has in the past.
We would welcome the opportunity to have you return to class as we are sure you would experience a more relaxed and full program given the time that has passed, the further easing of restrictions and the new year commencing. 🐝🎶💕 Mini Maestros

I can't recommend Mini Maestro's Gisborne/Macedon/Sunbury highly enough! Jo Irwin, Jess and the team bring such a vital resource to the community allowing kids to not only learn about music and how to use musical elements to express themselves, but also how to learn as part of a group, work with others, wait their turn and build confidence to perform in front of others individually- all whilst having loads of fun. I put both my children through the whole Mini Maestro's programme and they loved it, and I know this foundation in music will serve them for life. Thankyou so much Jo!
