I rarely write reviews
I rarely write reviews, but this experience needs to be shared.
Over several weeks, I experienced repeated delays and cancellations of a medically necessary knee surgery due to administrative and approval issues involving MedNet.
My surgery was cancelled twice at the last minute, both times after I had completed full pre-operative assessments. On a third occasion, the procedure again came within hours of being cancelled due to approval issues, before finally proceeding.
There was consistent inconsistency in communication. At times I was told the procedure was approved, while the hospital had no confirmation in their system. In one instance, the approval had been submitted incorrectly, which caused further delays. At a later stage, additional queries around high-cost consumables (allografts) were raised very late in the process, despite these being a fundamental part of the planned procedure.
This resulted in:
- significant delays to treatment
- repeated disruption to work and personal arrangements
- unnecessary stress at an already difficult time
- risk to my recovery due to postponed surgery
To be clear, the clinical care from the hospital and surgeon was good. The issue was entirely administrative and related to the handling of approvals.
Eventually the surgery did go ahead, but only after multiple escalations and last-minute uncertainty.
This experience highlights serious issues in coordination, communication, and approval processing. For anyone undergoing time-sensitive medical treatment, this level of uncertainty is not acceptable.
