It all seemed brilliant but after they had spoken to my ex I just got an email saying basically go to court we can't tell you anything else which I thought could of been handle better with a call perhaps but apart from that the initial talk/video call felt very productive

I am really glad to hear that you found the experience in general was very productive. I do note your comments around the process following the meeting with your ex and your feedback on this point is really helpful.
Our policy is to email following the meetings and we do try our best to write emails in such a way as to offer straightforward helpful guidance where, as in your case, a decision has been made by the mediator that mediation is not proceeding. It is important to understand that we are, as set out in our Code of Conduct, limited with what we are allowed to share once the decision has been made not to proceed - but I appreciate that in some cases clients may prefer to speak with either the mediator or one of our support team to discuss the decision and next steps.
I will take this on board and see how we can modify our processes in this area to make what can be a difficult conclusion a better experience for our clients.

I have just finished two sessions with…
I have just finished two sessions with Amanda to meditate between my ex partner and I for arrangements for our children. Amanda was brilliant with helping us recognise the effect certain situations can have on our children.
I feel we came to a very good agreement regarding access for our children.

I found Mediation First helpful
I found the initial session very useful. Georgina was professional, kind, and understanding throughout. She asked thoughtful questions and carefully recorded all the information about my case. The session did not feel rushed, and we were able to cover everything within the first hour.
Although the joint mediation could not ultimately go ahead, I do not feel that the initial session was in vain. Speaking to Georgina made me feel stronger and more confident about myself. She also recommended a book, which I found both interesting and poignant.
I would recommend trying Mediation First to anyone who wishes to resolve matters amicably, rather than going through solicitors or the courts.

I’m very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the service that you received. As you can appreciate I am unable to provide any details of the specific nature of your case with us due to confidentiality but on review I can ensure you that it was handled appropriately by an accredited and experienced family mediator. In your case a decision was made that mediation would not be proceeding and whilst we understand that can feel very disappointing please be assured that the decision was made after careful consideration.
I do need to refute entirely your assertion that our service was intentionally attempting to ‘take money’ from you. The decisions all of our mediators make, as to whether mediation is safe and appropriate to proceed, are not taken lightly and are always made after careful consideration and in line with our professional code of conduct. Even where mediation is not proceeding we hope that the time spent one-to-one with an experienced family mediator is valuable in itself and helps you to consider your next steps.
In relation to fees, in this case you paid for the one hour Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings. We currently charge £125 + VAT per person for that service, by way of comparison there is a figure quoted on the Family Mediation Council’s website that you can expect to pay around £120 per person for a MIAM.
If you feel strongly that the service you received was not to the required standards then I would encourage you to contact our Mediation Support Team directly and we will be happy to look in to this further.
