As a buyer I have had no problems.

As a buyer I have had no problems.
As a seller it was terrible. Had to pay $300 up front and then they took 30% of my sales...lol
I basically lost money selling my items.
I tried to add pictures to certain items and couldn't do it.
Never sell with them again. Will continue to buy tho.

As a Seller (self managed) the process is very frustrating. If you make any mistakes with your listing you can just fix it yourself you have to email or call admin and have them do it. There should at least be a system that allows you to correct the mistake and then have them review the edit and get it approved. I couldn’t even change the address of my pick up location without having them do it and to top it off the correction doesn’t even reflect on your seller app. I ended up having to call again because I thought it wasn’t changed. Also, when I tried to change the pick up date (this is before the auction was live) it wasn’t corrected and I had to have two separate auction pick ups days apart instead of on the same Sunday.They wouldn’t do anything, what a hassle. For the amount of work and money I made after I could’ve posted them on FB Marketplace (where I normally post) and got triple my money and less hassle. I definitely would not recommend Maxsold and would actually warn friends or family what they are getting themselves into.

Max Sold is Max rip off

I've experienced some of the same problems other people have. It's not just not accommodating the customer. It's downright theft. I missed my purchase pickup by 10 minutes and the seller would not give me an alternative time although I phoned her immediately and she was only 5 minutes away. So I was charged on a bid of $181 ....$60 between tax and Max sold fee. They said there would be a charge for the refund which also was the entire tax and Max sold fee. So a total of $120 for something I never received. They are thieves and only care about their commission. The seller is always protected even if they are wrong

For the lady at the Yonge & Finch condo

My last experience was amazing due to the seller & Doug. Doug puts up with me being moody and at times inappropriately angry and is still kind to me. Thank you Doug.
I am writing because this last seller was the kind of human I was always expecting at a sale but rarely saw. I am here and hope she sees this. Thank you so much for the clothes you sold me. They are beautiful, better than the pictures and they are clean. They smell of detergent. I need to steam a couple of shirts but girl, thank you so much. As you know, this is a crappy week but even the extreme cold yesterday could not dampen my happiness. And you are an amazing human and I wish you all the best. Thank you for being decent, kind, compassionate, responsible, reliable and beautiful.

Garbage company

Garbage company. Just bought VarageSale and has been stealing money from me without any customer support.

Paid for premium for months but once the company changed hands they kept taking the money but denied service.

Can't get a hold of anyone there beyond the first AI message. I've tried to reach someone who can help 10 times now, empty void.

Do NOT pay this company any money, just use free services if anything.

Very disappointing- I missed pick up due to the confusion by the affordable shipping company . All I was asking is for an alternative pickup arrangement - but the customer service don’t want to do there job.
They charge 18% buyer’s premium which is totally steal + 13% Tax = 31% on top of your each bid , and most items have issues - they have the worst terms and conditions and at the end
They put everything on buyer - then what do you charge 18% premium for ??
That’s insane : stay away- I would say run - I spent over 8k and learnt the lesson hard way,
If your item is below $20 - no refund - but still they will keep your $20+ (18% premium + 13% tax ) . Total steal . A big SCAM

Very high buyer's premium and tax on top of the item price + buyer's premium that quickly adds up. On top of that, every single auction I've gone to pick up, I've noticed almost all the employees are rude and dismissive, as if we're picking things up for free vs the fact that we are paying customers. Their terms and conditions include the fact that you should inspect items before leaving pickup, yet I had the seller laugh at me and the maxsold employee talk about electronics "as is" when I asked about checking if they're working. Another auction had the seller hand off bags outside his place. How are we supposed to check items then?? Not worth it for the price and their rude behaviour.

I had a deeply disappointing experience with a MaxSold auction in Aurora, Colorado. The pickup was chaotic and unsafe--no signage, long delays, and strong chemical odors from the items. The seller was unresponsive and disorganized, and several lots were missing or not as described.

MaxSold denied a refund despite clear documentation and their own policies being impossible to follow under the circumstances. Their support team repeatedly cited terms that don't account for unsafe or misleading conditions, and refused to escalate the issue.
Buyers should be aware that MaxSold does not guarantee safe pickup environments or enforce seller accountability. Proceed with caution, especially for lower-value lots or unfamiliar locations.

Potential sellers and buyers in Canada…

Potential sellers and buyers in Canada should exercise caution when using Maxsold. I've been interested in making numerous purchases through this platform, but their website is unable to verify my credit cards, all of which are in good standing, have zero balances, and function properly with other services. I have attempted troubleshooting with Maxsold and my bank; the bank confirmed that there are no issues on their end, and the problem appears to be with Maxsold's website. The Maxsold customer service representative indicated that this issue is common in Canada and is due to a security programming flaw that has yet to be resolved. This situation creates difficulties for many Canadian users and may negatively impact sellers' success on the platform. It is a frustrating and disappointing experience.

I won a bid for a mere $27 and was…

I won a bid for a mere $27 and was unaware of the no shipping arrangements. That is my own fault that I missed the pick up date and time. An alternate pickup date was not offered nor was a refund. I requested a refund for the $27 not for the Premium cost or the tax just the $27 bid. I was told no sorry no refund. I wasn't asked if I would like to arrange other options for pick up or not. I spend roughly $5,000-$10,000 a year on sports cards but will NOT be making any more purchases through Maxsold. Recommend using a different auction service.

Don't deal with MaxSold

I talked to Abner at max sold asked how the commission worked even gave a example if something sells for 100.00 Max sold only charges 30% = 30.00 to a max of 300.00 until 30% hits 300.00 dollars .
I signed up over 45 items . They are charging me $300.00 for the sale. My sales it was at 744.00 which to me would be in the 30% range = $223.00.
No they are charging me $300.00
My client was unable to get registered to bid and I bid for him which they are charging me 300.00 for that. Total charges 600.00 for selling $744.00. Do not deal with this company give your stuff aawy. Very poor communication poor way to register poor business ethics.

Bad been using these for years this was…

Bad been using these for years this was the absolute worst one. Bought vacuum for 49 bucks with tax 67. Said used once good working condition.. lies. When I got home it was in a bag that looked like a dog pooped in it the vacuum itself was disgustingly like filled with hair and clumps of crap.. here’s the kicker cord was frayed to the point of unsafe and when I noticed this an hr later when trying I sent maxsold a msg… my refund was denied because it was 49 not 50 dollars before tax and I should have examined it when I was there.. perhaps I should have asked to clean a piece of the carpet at their house as well? Worse scammers than marketplace and that by far was the grosser and last item I will ever buy stay clear safe yourself grief

NO BUENO!

Honestly, the employees I've encountered at the Lakeland, FL, pick up sites have been pretty good. I've bought ceramics, pottery, and glass dishes lots at three auctions and was surprised to see that at each auction pick up location, most of the items were wrapped up, taped up, and the boxes taped shut. Naively, I actual thought this was nice and I appreciated it, especially since at each site, I had several boxes of dishes to pick up. Although this did preclude me from inspecting the items, as well as the fact that none of the pick up locations had or provided areas for buyers to inspect their purchases. It was basically, here are your items, now be on your way. So, after being pushed out, I just took my purchases and left. However, when at home and unwrapping the items, some had major chips. Nothing in any of the descriptions of the lots of dishes I purchased stated anything about any/some items being damaged. Also, a power cord was missing which rendered the percolator useless. And then one lot of china I bought specifically listed dinner plates, but when I got the set home and unwrapped it, they were salad plates, not dinner plates. I completed the online forms to alert the company of all of its mistakes made and requested minimal percentages for refunds. The response I received was basically, TOUGH; if you don't review your purchases on site, you're screwed. I've purchased a LOT of glass and dishes. So, from now, I am going to write questions on the live auction sites for every lot I'm bidding on. And at every pick up site, I am going to require they provide me a comfortable area where they are going to wait for me to take my time to inspect each and every item, regardless of how long it takes.

I thought the idea of an online auction…

I thought the idea of an online auction was a great idea to keep stuff out of the landfill and get a good deal on used items. The fact that they add on $45 on top of my bid of 145 as a premium is ridiculous. But the bait and switch alone wasn’t the worst part when I went to go pick up my item right at the time. They tell me too. I met by crutch, rude old ladies that have an attitude like I’m an annoyance to them by being there there was no organization of to where things were. The one lady tells me to go inside with a gentleman to find the item while another lady is yelling at me to not go through the house. First time ever using it and it will be the last learn from me go somewhere else.

I only started purchasing from Maxsold…

I only started purchasing from Maxsold about two weeks ago and, in that short time, I’ve already spent a fair amount of money. Overall, I’ve been very satisfied with the products, the sellers, and the pickup process.
That said, this one-star review stems from a very disappointing experience. When you win an item, pickup must be done at a specific location and within a set time frame. If you need any adjustment, you’re instructed to contact Maxsold, who will then coordinate with the seller.
In my first three purchases, the sellers were extremely accommodating and helpful, which left me impressed with the customer service. Unfortunately, with my most recent purchase, I requested a different pickup date and emailed Maxsold. I never received a reply, so I called their contact center. The representative I spoke with was extremely rude, told me that “Randy” had already said absolutely not, and went as far as to suggest I shouldn’t have bought the items in the first place.
For me, customer service is a key driver of business success. Because of this incident, I immediately deactivated my account and will no longer be purchasing from Maxsold. This review is simply a reminder: empathy goes a long way in customer service—you never know what someone may be going through.

I was a buyer for a Maxsold auction

I was a buyer for a Maxsold auction. I love the idea, but the percent added on to the base bid was just too high. With their cut and taxes (for some reason? why taxes when we are buying used from another person?) it wound up being almost 25% additional cost on top. If you are bidding a small amount or get something for a super low price, it's not too bad. But those costs really, really add up, and it isn't the seller making that money either. From what I gather from other reviews as well, the seller has to pay a lot off the top of their earnings as well. I won't do this again, it just isn't worth it.

Don't Believe What You Read! Buyer Beware!!

June 2025 I bid on and won a "new" (as described on the website) compact telescope. I drove out to Scarborough to pick it up and needed to be quick to get back as my wife needed the car. I picked up what looked like a new package and took it home. The next day I unpacked the box to find the telescope was missing pieces and the scope itself was misaligned so did not function. I contac ted MaxSold and was told that since I did not make a complaint at the pick up they would not refund my purchase. The did not address the incorrect statement that led to me buying the telescope in the first place. I have purchased a lot of things on this site, some good, some not so much but I always felt the descriptions were fair. I will never use this site again.
