Great handover, great team!

Our pickup experience was seamless and stress free, Ruth was lovely and very helpful in getting us set up and checked in preparation for picking up the vehicle. Murray who showed us to our van and gave us a full tour of the vehicle was exceptional. He was thorough giving us everything we needed to know about the vehicle answered all of our questions and made sure every part of the vehicle was safe and ready to go before we embarked on our journey. He also asked us about our trip and even gave us some recommended spots to stop in and see along the way. dropping off the vehicle was just as seamless as pick up. The customer service was excellent from start to finish.

Rented a campervan for a long-awaited family road trip around the South Island, and unfortunately the experience was pretty disappointing from the outset.

The house battery was flat when we picked it up, which meant we were cold for the first few nights. I’m genuinely surprised something as basic as this isn’t checked before handing over the keys.

Things got considerably worse when leaving Hanmer Springs. While driving on a very busy open road, we suddenly had a major leak above the driver’s seat, resulting in roughly four litres of water pouring down on me while I was driving. Aside from being ridiculous, it was genuinely dangerous.

The helpline wasn’t overly helpful, and we were eventually directed into Christchurch to have the issue resolved, costing us basically a full day of our family road trip. We were given a replacement camper and asked whether we could extend our hire by 24 hours to make up for the lost day, which they agreed to.

To then discover we had actually been charged for that extra day was pretty unbelievable considering the extension was only necessary because their camper had failed in the first place.

Between the flat battery, dangerous water leak, lost day of our holiday, inconvenience of changing campers and then being charged for the additional day, it was a really poor experience.

Interestingly, while dropping the replacement camper back, we heard another customer describing a similarly disappointing experience.

Unfortunately, I wouldn’t hire a Maui again.

My partner and I picked up our motorhome on the 29th July.
Very smart office and lovely staff.
We were shown how things work in the van. We stayed for a bit to familiarise ourselves with the vehicle.
We couldn't turn some lights off or turn the chairs. I went into the office and spoke to Murray. He came out to the van. He showed us some things that were missed, like the sink in the shower moves to create a cubicle.
Murray is a really nice guy. We got chatting about our plans. He suggested all sorts of places to visit and how the camp sites work. He was a mind of information. So helpful.

Our trip was made wonderful from beginning to end, the company was professional, the van immaculate & comfortable. The process easy too! The staff were so friendly & helpful. We will definitely be back. It was our first time in a motorhome & we loved it. Cheers.

Our holiday in the Maui motorhome was amazing, and our kids absolutely loved the experience. We did have a small leak on the first night, but the roadside assistance team responded quickly, booked us into a workshop, and had the issue resolved the very same day. We really appreciated how efficiently it was handled, allowing us to continue enjoying our holiday with minimal disruption.

Overall, we had a fantastic experience and would happily recommend Maui to others.

Fantastic motorhome journey, with room to improve the damage-claims process

We had a fantastic journey through New Zealand with Maui, and the overall motorhome experience was genuinely worthy of five stars. The trip was memorable and enjoyable, and travelling by motorhome gave us a wonderful way to experience the country.

Unfortunately, an accident occurred during the rental. This highlighted an area where Maui could improve its claims-handling process. At the Auckland branch, the full NZD 7,500 damage liability was charged to my card without clearly explaining that it was only a provisional amount pending assessment. I was also not initially provided with an itemised repair quotation, claim reference or expected timeframe, despite explaining that these documents were required by my separate insurer.

This created avoidable uncertainty and required me to make a formal written request for clarification and supporting documentation. In future, Maui should clearly explain at the branch that any maximum damage charge is provisional, provide written information about the assessment and refund process, and give customers a claim reference and expected timeframe immediately.

That said, I would particularly like to acknowledge Katrina from the Auckland Claims Team. She responded within the timeframe I requested, communicated professionally, provided the final itemised repair invoice once the repairs were completed, and arranged a substantial refund of the difference between the provisional charge and the actual repair cost.

Although the initial claims communication could have been much clearer, the journey itself was fantastic and the matter was ultimately resolved professionally. For that reason, I am still happy to leave Maui a five-star review, while sincerely encouraging them to improve transparency and communication when damage claims arise.

Everything from pickup to drop off was effortless

Everything was great! My family loved our RV trip.

Friendly staff during both pickup and drop-off. The operations instructions were easy to follow. Having rented a motorhome 7 or 8 years ago, the specifications have definitely improved—the added camera and extra mirrors made driving and parking much easier. The motorhome itself was under 2 years old, so it felt very new, clean, and tidy.

The 1st one we went to collect had a terrible bald tire but the team quickly changed the vehicle out for us.

Mileage start in your billing was not the same as dashboard when picking up! It’s over hundred KMs. Very disappointed!

Great hand over and hand back process, loved the service and the very nice coffee! Slight fault with one of the gas burners which we reported but other than that we were really impressed with the fitout and the nice little extras like provided pot scapers and dish clothes and toilet chemical pods etc

Lovely staff - most helpful - great campervan- collecting and returning a beeze. Highly recommended.

We rented the 2 Berth campervan and really enjoyed our first proper camper van experience! The diesel heater was a lifesaver as we thought the cold wasn't going to be that bad but it soaks in at night. Pick up and drop off was quick, and while someone lost the top to the outside grill, we didn't end up needing it anyway.
