I wish I could give 0 stars!

This is a fraudulent company claiming to be a long-standing Vancouver shop. The website was only created in March or April of 2025 which I unfortunately didn't know until too late. The piece I ordered came much later than stated, did not ship by Purolator as I was told, and when it arrived the material was a cheap poly with zero breathability (on the website this claims to be a breathable but it's absolutely not). The tag on the neckline was cut off and there was no tag anywhere else stating the material or washing/care instructions. The straps and buttons were totally different from the website also. In their refund policy it states that if someone says "my product doesn't look like it did on the website" that this isn't a valid enough concern for them to refund. I unfortunately also didn't notice this until after I received my product. They have offered me a 100% store credit for the amount of my first purchase and I have asked for a refund instead. I am so sad to think that this wasn't created ethically.

If I could give zero stars I would. Total scam. Products I purchased are poorly made and the quality of material is awful. They offered me 30% refund.

This is a scam. Order not as advertised. Was advertised as linen/cotton and is actually synthetic with no labels.

I ordered from this company which had many reviews with links/backstories, and photos which looked legit to my untrained eye.
They mentioned they were shutting down to spend quality family time and it was based in a Canadian city. Most of the clothes if not all were stated to be made of natural fibres and looked lovely. They were apparently deeply discounted. They stated they would be shipped by purolator at no cost.
Strangely the company is still around (though I bought my items on the "last day" they were open.

I try to buy from Canadian stores, with ethically produced clothes and shorter distance shipping for ethical and environmental reasons.
Not only am I sad about the disappointment of my birthday indulgence, and angry at being deceived,
I have been tricked into supporting unecessary global shipping and likely unethical manufacturing processes.

Claimed to be a small boutique in Vancouver with convincing photos. Showed lovely linen/cotton clothes.
Were all but one polyester. All same size - fit from L to 2XL.
No labels stating actual materials in clothes.
When I sent side by side photos and complained,
I got 100% gift card, keep the items (no interest in ordering more things I don't want and can't trust the description) then 20% refund and keep the stuff,
OR 100% refund"if you ship everything back within 30 days and we agree it is in unworn condition and our warehouse processes it, then we will send you 100% refund".
Unfortunately as a result of the deception in the product photos and descriptions, I cannot trust that this will happen, and so will need to accept the 20% refund and donate most of the items.

🚨 Scam Warning – “Maria & Sofia Vancouver” is NOT a Legitimate Business

This store is a Shopify-based scam, falsely claiming to be a Vancouver-based small business running a “closing sale.” It uses stolen product images, fake location claims, and deceptive descriptions to target consumers—primarily through a fake or hijacked Facebook page that runs ads aimed at Canadians.

I placed an order split into two shipments. Only one arrived—two weeks late—and the items were nothing like the photos. The design, fit, and construction were completely different than shown. A sweater had different sleeves and shaping, and a linen-style jumpsuit arrived as see-through polyester. The materials were stiff, synthetic, and low quality, despite being marketed as soft and breathable.

None of the garments had legally required labelling (no fibre content, no care instructions, no country of origin). As someone with 20+ years in apparel, I can confirm these are non-compliant imports.

The second shipment never arrived. After several follow-ups, they agreed to refund that portion—but refused to issue a proper refund for the misrepresented items I did receive. Instead, they offered only 70% store credit, despite their return policy stating refunds for wrong items or incorrect sizing.

I’ve rejected their final offer and have initiated a chargeback to ensure this merchant is flagged as fraudulent with my credit card company. I’ve also reported them to Consumer Protection BC, CBSA, Competition Bureau Canada, Shopify, and Meta/Facebook for platform misuse and advertising fraud.

⚠️ This business is not what it claims to be. Avoid at all costs.

Wow - i thought I wouldn't get sucked into these types of online stores. Not! It looked like a bona fide mortar and brick store in Vancouver so that is why I felt comfortable ordering. Well... the items were terrible. Sub par materials (poly) where they state cotton/linen blend and poor workmanship. Again, the photos do not represent what you have ordered. I should have picked up when it took 4 weeks for delivery - obviously from China. Angry customer.

If there was a -5 star I would rate them lower than that. They advertise that they were going out of business and that they were selling clothes and shoes at half price. My bad i did not look them up on You Tube etc. but according to their ads they were in business for a long time and were now closing down. They advertised their clothing as cotton/linen. So I went ahead and ordered some dresses and shirts. Well I received the first item - a cotton/linen shirt that was neither cotton or linen but polyester and poorly made. The same shirt was also advertised on Temu the exact photograph and selling for approximately $15-$20 Canadian. I got in touch with them and wanted to return this for a refund. This was their reply even though on the website it said if you did not like the item you can return it for full refund:
Option 1: Enjoy an immediate 20% partial refund to your original payment method. You don’t need to return anything—just keep the items.

Option 2: If you’d rather not go through the return process, we’d be happy to offer you a 80% Gift Card. You can use it anytime on a future order—no need to send anything back! It’s our way of making things easy and showing how much we appreciate you.

No problem at all if you’d still like to return the items — we completely understand! Just so you’re aware, returns are sent to our international warehouse, and as mentioned in our policy, **the return shipping cost (usually somewhere between CA$40–CA$120, depending on your location) would need to be covered by you.

I have contacted my bank's fraud line and am filing a fraud/scam dispute since all items were bought on my credit cards. Do not buy from them.

This is a misleading company; there is no store, no Grandma (Maria) no Sofia and the products are cheaply made in Asia. They are misleading about being able to cancel or get a refund on items. Items themselves are poorly made, with poor materials and not at all sized properly. It takes a very long time to ship, and is not shipped via the company (in my case, Canada Post) that is stated in the site.
