Appalling customer service and broke after a week
Bought a Manhattan T4-R box less than a week ago and now it won't display on the TV. Tried all the obvious things but nothing so phoned technical support.
Hardly had a chance to explain the issue when the lady on the phone kept cutting me off asking me to try things I had already tried (which I had explained). She then asked who the engineer needed to speak to and I explained my aunt. She said, yes but who will he speak to what is the name. I told her the name and she immediately accused me of being rude!!!!
Absolutely shocking customer service when you have paid £170 for something that stops working after a week. Avoid.
Brilliant Aero and brilliant customer support…
As I have a very poor aerial reception where I live I was really keen to get a new Aero when it was released. Such was the demand I had great difficulty. I contacted Manhattan customer support and they provided immediate assistance, directing me to another supplier - and bothered to follow up on it.
I am delighted with the box, it has transformed my viewing. But I then encountered some issues with the remote. Again, Manhattan responded, provided assistance and have worked themselves to identify the issue. Having done so they have come back again and are sending me an updated remote. All companies have problems but the strength of a good one lies in how it deals with these. Full marks to Manhattan, a great company to do business with. Thank you (and Alex in particular).
Reviews are all wrong…
Got to be honest I keep reading these reviews of the T4 . saying how good it is NOT for me not in the same class as any Humax in fact gone back to the T2 better picture the T4 picture is annoying how soft it is some channels showing picture you can't make out they promise a upgrade been waiting no chance whoever thinks it's good have not had other makes to be honest don't waste your money like I have 200 pound wasted it's rubbish

I purchased my Manhattans T4-R after reading many glowing reviews……..big mistake !
In the past I have always trusted Humax boxes; solid reliable boxes, with superb user interface that never let me down.
My Manhattan T4-R is absolutely rubbish; It fails to record on a regular basis, the fast forwards and rewind functions are Stone Age (you need to press play/pause in order to alternate between FF and FB, it is so annoying)…..and finally the build quality and the remote are totally naff.
When I have the money I will replace it with a Humax/BT 4K box.
Who writes the reviews? …….have they really tried living with this ‘junk box’ ?
All that said; I only have myself to blame for being gullible.
Whilst the machines are new they work…
Whilst the machines are new they work great... after about 6 to 9 months they start glitching... I sent one back but bought a 2nd one thinking it .might have been a one off ?... BUT it seems this 2nd box is starting to do the same thing... already glitching... not recording some series records... and sometimes ' no signal' so I have a feeling I will be rooting out my receipt for this one this week... its such a shame as I really like the box when its new... the only gripe I had with it was having to watch NETFLIX via my smart tv as T4R doesn't have that...

Dull as dishwater
Had bought this tv recorder with high expectations but sadly came down to earth with a bump.
The picture quality is wishywashy and lacks any vibrancy
The first thing I checked was the aerial which was giving a reading of. 98 -100%
If I disconnect the box and use tv freeview picture is perfect
Constantly get on screen message HARD…
Constantly get on screen message HARD drive faulty and you have to format the hard drive and loose all your recordings. Message from Manhatan tells me to unplug for five minutes plug back in and format hard drive but this fix lasts about a week.
Simple to set up on an older TV used…
Simple to set up on an older TV used dongle for internet connection.
Once connected had a good picture and remote was standard and easy to use...box is small but does the job.
issue with my Manhattan T3-r
I had an issue with my Manhattan T3-r
It kept coming up hardware error-contact support. At first I didn’t notice much difference, but eventually it wouldn’t record or playback older recordings.
I contacted support, who responded very quickly, and gave me idiot-proof instructions to reset the hard drive. I did lose all my existing recordings but the T3-r is now fully functioning like new! 5 stars for the support and for the unit. I thought I was going to have to bin it but it has a new lease of life.
AVOID THIS COMPANY
I bought the Manhattan T4R recording box and problems were apparent very early on. It failed, intermittently, to record and gave reason as 'due to power loss'. There was no power loss and the machine had to be rebooted as it wasn't responding to the remote.
When I turned the machine on and it failed to respond, that's when I could see all the failed recordings.
I've spoken to the 'technical support' on two occasions & have been basically fobbed off. My second call ended when the 'technical support' guy hung up after I said he was being rude - which he most certainly was.
Based on this experience, I will never buy any of their products again.
Absolute rubbish
Absolute rubbish, takes over a minute to come on and then goes off for a few seconds intermittently. Would not recommend this piece of crap to anyone.
Registration is not easy - can't do it!
product seems good, but the frustration of trying to register the product to get the additional year guarantee takes you to a totally unrelated group of websites. Not user friendly at all.
I just purchased this to replace Virgin…
I just purchased this to replace Virgin Media and the set up was absolutely fine. It connected to my internet via ethernet straight away and am happy with the connectivity options. I'm watching my first recording right now. The guide and user interface are easy to navigate. I turned off menu transparency as I found it distracting I absolutely love that the remote has 5 learnable functions (2 are vol up down), which I easily programmed from 2 other different remotes - so I don't need to use the other remotes as much and have less sofa clutter, fabulous! The remote could be less 'clicky', but it's a small gripe. Pleased with the apps and easy to access, not bothered about Netflix, though YouTube would be a nice addition. The box size isn't huge so easy to find a home for it - it's about the same size as my Vigin box. Live fast foward and rewind are quick and responsive, good choice of levels and quicker than virgin. No complaints so far, I hope the T4-R continues to function as it is currently.
Edit: 4 days later and just found a useful tip. On my Virgin box, when you stop after fast forward it goes back a few seconds to account for reaction time (which I believe is a function trademarked by Tivo). As the T4-R doesn't have this there's a hand skip back 10 seconds function you can use if you've gone a tab too far forward, much aporeciated.
Edit 05/02/25 - Manhattan have released an update to upgrade the box to include YouTube, which I have completed successfully and is very welcome.
No recording features on a T2-R
No recording features on a T2-R. Contacted Manhattan by email. Response was immediate. Received update software on USB memory stick. Back up an running now. Thanks Abdul for all your help.
T4-R 1TB Review & Technical Support
Very happy with the general interface and many features incorporated in my recently purchased T4-R PVR, in my opinion much superior to my two previous Freeview/Freesat units from another very well known manufacturer.
Did experience an initial technical issue, remote controller intermittantly unresponsive and very sensitive to range & angle to the box, made reliable control & programming difficult.
Contacted Manhattan support by e-mail, Alex responded very quickly, was very knowledgable and we worked through the issue, initially supplied a replacement remote controller then replacing the complete PVR under warranty, very efficient service, really impressed with the level of support provided by Alex.
The original PVR was collected by courier from my home address, all very painless.
Overall, very happy with my new T4-R and confident that any future issues I might experience or support I may require within the 2 year warranty period will be efficiently addressed by Manhattan.
Exceptional customer service from Alex
I bought a T4-r in the summer. A very easy machine to use but, sadly for me, every now and again, the apps wouldn’t load and would continually strobe.
I contacted Manhatten and, after several attempts, including them sending me usbs with debugging data, the problem has been solved. It appeared that I was the only one having this issue and it was actually my WiFi and internet that was at fault.
I cannot praise Alex at Manhatten highly enough. The customer service I received was above and beyond.
Exception service deserves recognition. I’m so pleased with the box that I recommended it to a family member and she’s delighted with it too

Just wanted to relax and watch a Campion I'd not seen before. The system died on me twice. I switched off. What a disaster Manhattan is. Tomorrow into the town to see Virgin. I sick of Manhattan
Absolute rubbish customer care service
Absolute rubbish customer care service, Manhattan SX 1TB went wrong and eventually got a post free to send it back after supplying screen shots and trying their work arounds and a promise of a replacement. Now weeks on and no replacement, cannot talk to customer care on phone as not their initial contact, as contact was made by email at their request for screen shots etc and had to go back via email, all one gets is the run around, now looking at taking legal advice after trading standards appointmant.
