Overall, a very good experience. I have been working with them for many years and have never had an issue regarding payments (which is rare enough to be worth mentioning).
Rates are fair, some projects are interesting, and the support is responsive and efficient.
The only downsides I can mention are the login process, which is not straightforward, and the use of their own tools and order process, which can be quite challenging.

Statement Regarding My Experience with/ Lionbridge
I am writing this statement after personally experiencing one of the most fraudulent practices a freelancer can ever face. What Lionbridge has done cannot be described as a technical error or poor management; it is a deliberate and systematic pattern designed to exploit workers and seize their earnings in an organized and calculated manner.
✔ What happened to me in detail (all of which the company has records of):
• I was assigned to work on an official Amazon-related project through their platform.
• I completed all required tasks with high quality.
• My work was reviewed and officially accepted with no remarks.
• The full payment appeared in my account on their system.
• And just a few minutes later…
The company permanently closed my account without any prior notice or legal justification.
✔ Attempting to contact them?
• I sent multiple messages via email and support channels, and received no response whatsoever.
• I tried reaching out through Discord, only to find that they block anyone who asks about their payments or exposes what the company is doing.
✔ What this means legally:
What the company is doing falls under:
• Exploitation of remote workers
• Illegal withholding and seizure of earned payments
• Misuse of digital agreements and breach of contract terms
• Suppressing complaints and preventing transparency by blocking affected workers
According to international freelance regulations, this constitutes a Fraudulent Pattern, not a one-time incident.
✔ My message to anyone considering working with them:
If you are thinking of joining any project with Lionbridge, you are literally putting yourself at risk of:
• Doing work for free
• Wasting your time
• Having your effort stolen
• Watching your earned payments disappear with a single click
What happens there is not a “glitch” — it is a deliberate mechanism designed to extract as much work as possible and then discard the worker.
✔ My message to the company:
What happened to me will not go unchallenged.
I am keeping all digital evidence, communications, timestamps of account closure, and confirmations of task acceptance — all of which are sufficient to initiate a full legal escalation with the relevant authorities, in addition to documenting my experience publicly so this kind of fraud does not happen to anyone else.
I was recruited for a Lionbridge testing project and asked to complete onboarding steps with the utmost urgency. This includes forms, registration for accounts, e-learning modules for onboarding, and even requesting a physical security key.
Despite investing hours in the onboarding process to get started, I never received any actual tasks or compensation. Months went by with zero communication. Follow-up inquiries were met with silence or vague dismissals, or even MORE forms to fill in.
In-project meetings were scheduled without organizers present, where participants where just asking each other what the actual goal of the meeting was.
I was even invited to meetings that had nothing to do with the project I was recruited for, which made the process feel disorganized and careless, and potentially a security risk.
Very unprofessional and incompentent company.
When I raised concerns about misuse of my personal data and requested removal from their database, responses were sympathetic but showed no willingness to improve the situation. I still haven’t been given a clear channel to file a formal complaint.
Lionbridge's lack of transparency, accountability, and respect for testers' time is unacceptable. I cannot recommend participating in their projects.
Unfortunately, I went through an extremely shocking experience with Lionbridge / TELUS International.
An experience that clearly shows how some of these companies can operate with zero transparency, zero professionalism, and absolutely no respect for the people who actually do the work.
I completed all assigned tasks.
The work was fully accepted.
And the moment they received everything, here’s what happened:
– My account was suddenly closed with no explanation
– My earned payment was withheld
– No response… no clarification… no professionalism whatsoever
When a company behaves like this, anyone has the right to question:
Is this how a trustworthy organization operates?
Does any legitimate, ethical company take the work, shut down the worker’s account, and disappear without paying them?
I am sharing this publicly as a clear warning.
What happened to me is outright exploitation, completely unacceptable behavior, and strongly resembles practices that no reputable company should ever be associated with.
I have already submitted a formal complaint to Amazon with full evidence,
and I will continue with every legal step available.
If you are considering working with this company…
Keep your eyes wide open.
Anyone who needs proof, details, or documentation—
I am fully prepared to share everything.
freelance translators often center on low pay, complex proprietary software, poor project management communication, and payment issues, rather than the quality of the work itself. Lionbridge itself highlights a rigorous quality control process, including human post-editing of AI translations, to ensure accuracy
I’ve been with Lionbridge for over three years and it’s been a positive experience. I feel supported by my managers and team, see room to grow. It has been a great place to start my career.
So I'm at a project manager named Mark on telegram who offered me a contract position translating English document to French when it came time to pay he sent me to some bogus bank manager from bogus unregulated bank called Apex in which they expect me to pay money to get paid which is absolutely ridiculous don't trust Mark the project manager on telegram he's no good he will rip you off and you will not get paid
Incompetent AI peddlers. I work in one of their subcontractor teams and we've had a running project with them for 3 years now. We spend more time arguing with them about incorporating AI features (which make the translation unusable or force us to spend twice as much time on editing) and upkeep of resources like glossaries (that they don't even bother to update/correct) than we do on actual work. Their managers are incapable of handling even the simplest tasks or answering the most basic questions. Stay away if you care about the quality of translation for your project.
Lionbridge has great company culture but they recently cut my shift pay for not meeting criteria I didn't know existed until they cut my shift pay. The lack of transparency made me lose trust in them.
This team purposely sends these projects in the middle of the night at local time to avoid a job well done. With the work delivered within the required parameters, they will claim that posters on the walls are on screen texts and we must guess the names of speakers who have never been mentioned by anyone, state that "due to our mistakes, we won't get paid for the work" that was done with effort and in the middle of the night. It's very disappointing, after more than 20 years of partnership, to see translators treated in this disrespectful way.
Stealing interpreted work hours and not payment. I was expecting $500 plus dollars this Feb 15th payment and only received $24 only 24/0.6)==40 mins while I racked up close to 850 mins of calls during that pay period.
I have been waiting for my payment since December 2024. I received an email late last night that a payment would be uploaded. I constantly checked but nothing was there last night.
This morning when I woke up I checked and saw the payment at 7 AM this morning. I requested a payout and the policy on Gengo is payments requested before 5PM will be on the 3rd will be on the 10th. I requested and they gave me a date of the 25th. I am appalled and confused, and quite frankly disgusted that I have to wait for my money this long.
Between when I submitted my annotations to this time, I have emailed the team back and forth to have my payment uploaded and fixed to the full amount after ya’ll paid me 11.00 last month. Now I will have to wait until the 25th for money that should have been paid from last month. Additionally, this is the only business I know that decided to push back payments because of a holiday, and they did it because of Christmas, delaying payments for another day.
PAY ME MY MONEY!
I am the leader of a technical team composed of highly skilled professionals, including engineers and technicians, who work on demanding projects for high-profile clients like Meta. We completed this work for Lionbridge. Despite our expertise and contributions, Gengo’s handling of payouts has been deeply disappointing.
1. Payout Delays and Poor Scheduling:
Gengo promises payouts on the 10th and 25th of each month. Today is December 22nd, and I was assured my payout would be processed on the 25th. However, I have now been told I won’t receive payment until January 10th—even during the Christmas period, when timely payouts are critical for many of us. This is unacceptable, especially when Meta and other clients Lionbridge contracts us for are known for paying on time. It is frustrating to be caught in the middle, waiting for Gengo to release payments we are owed.
2. Lack of Flexibility and Communication:
Gengo’s support team has repeatedly ignored the urgency of the situation, despite me explaining that I need these funds to pay my team. They refuse to escalate my request to a senior finance manager and instead stick to generic, unhelpful responses. This demonstrates a lack of care for the people who keep their projects running smoothly.
3. Hidden Fees and Transparency Issues:
Our earnings are already reduced significantly due to Gengo’s platform fees, PayPal fees, and poor exchange rates. These deductions are not clearly communicated upfront. For a company that expects the highest level of professionalism from its freelancers and teams, this lack of transparency is both frustrating and unfair.
4. Disrespect for High-Level Professionals:
We are not just individual translators; we are a team of engineers and technicians who deliver technical expertise to Gengo’s clients. For a company working with globally respected brands like Meta, their failure to meet basic financial obligations reflects poorly on their operations.
Conclusion:
While the projects we’ve worked on through Gengo are rewarding, the payout system and lack of respect for freelancers and their teams overshadow any benefits. Lionbridge, the company we worked with for Meta, should reconsider its partnership with Gengo, as this kind of treatment is unacceptable for professional teams like ours. Our reputation is directly tied to both companies, and Gengo’s failure to deliver on time is damaging that reputation. Lionbridge must be aware of the poor treatment that contractors face through Gengo, and this issue must be addressed for the sake of both the workers and the reputation of all parties involved.
Furthermore, we had agreed to a different amount with Lionbridge, but Gengo’s platform cuts a significant amount from our pay, and the only payout option is PayPal, which also charges additional fees, further reducing our income. Additionally, Gengo separates payments if the payout amount exceeds $5000, which causes further delays and complications. These actions, combined with the already poor payout timing, create an unacceptable situation for professional teams like ours.
If this issue is not resolved, I will be left with no choice but to escalate the matter. I will inform my entire team to share their complaints on all relevant platforms, including Trustpilot, Glassdoor, and professional forums. Additionally, I will notify our clients directly about these issues, as their reputations are tied to Gengo’s performance. Lionbridge, as our employer, must also take a stand on this issue.
I urge Gengo and Lionbridge to reconsider their payout policies, especially during critical times like the holiday season, and treat their technical teams with the respect they deserve.
Shitty translation tool. You can't follow your word output....
These guys created a study about Human Interaction for AI. First thing everyone noticed including myself is that they issued everyone a 239 address number when come to find out the address was 259. After searching around for what felt like an hour I finally realized their company name on a bulletin board when I walked passed a location that was across the street. Other than that I had no immediate contact person that would answer my email to correct this in a timely fashion had to find myself.
I showed up to the Interaction Video which was very sloppy and had almost ten other people there with the same date and time which is impossible due to only 2 being able to be scheduled for a session at a time. I inquired about pay which was very shady between every staff I asked. One Person Jose, told me 24-48 hours for pay and stated that I would receive what is called an annotation follow up for the study via PM night team. I've done 2 studies already started on October 7th and received no follow up and hardly any communication. Then I received an email today stating that I have to make sure I'm registered which they saw that I was. Was told that they process payments on the 10th and 25th of every month, this is a gig. Not a regular 9-5. Why wasn't I told ahead of time before any study started, what my pay schedule would look like. Very unfair. I don't want to further anything with this company
I started from lionbridge.com and clicked “Join our Team” which took me to careers.lionbridge.com and found the job I’m looking for which opened a registration page……where you had to input all your personal information including Social Security Number……..
This is a red flag 🚩
Most job websites only required verifying your email and phone numbers so they will contact you if your initial profile matches their needs…… but this one asks for your personal information upfront……SCAM SCAM SCAM
Alice Sharon from “lionbridge” told me I had to translate a 100 page PDF in 3 days. Firstly, she said “KINDLY SUBMIT THE FELLOWING REQUIREMENTS
Email:
Country:
Name:
Age:
Profession:
Method of Payment:”, then she told me their company was called “Phoenix Media inc” when before she said “Lionbridge”and that they’ll give me the payment through their server, not a direct bank transfer.
Everything looked like a scam so I searched online and I found this page. I sent her a screencapture saying “I don’t want to work with you” and automatically she deleted the picture she had and blocked me which shows IT’S A SCAM.
Be careful.
They use you for job and give you deadline! Then send an automated message saying to link bankaccount to company and 50$ fee. Its a fraud please guys save yourself!
They keep on asking for a service fee of 50$ and refused to pay me after doing two jobs. And even sent a fake url to get to the payment management. That Anderson junior guy even got me to work twice without getting paid.
