The renewal price was £40 more than was…

The renewal price was £40 more than was available on comparison websites for the same company and cover, I contacted them expecting them to honour the price to new customers however after some back and forth I had to cancel my policy and then create another, usually there are a team that are keen to retain customers, just seems odd and inconvenient.

Our prices are based on a range of risk factors - this helps keep our premiums fair and reflective of the true cost of providing comprehensive lifetime cover. You mentioned that the new policy was cheaper, this is because new policies come with several restrictions along with waiting periods before you can claim, that do not apply to renewing customers. By taking out a new policy, these restrictions apply to your policy again, which will reduce the cost, as there is less cover in the first policy year compared to a renewal - as our team would have explained when you spoke with them on the phone. Renewing your existing policy, on the other hand, allows your cover to continue seamlessly, meaning any signs or symptoms of a condition (whether diagnosed/treated, or not) that developed while insured with us, remain covered without any new exclusions or waiting times – which would not be the case on a new policy.

We’re really glad you chose to stay with us and thank you again for taking the time to explain your experience. We encourage feedback from our customers and always looking to improve what we do to give the best service we can.

Not help me. I am stuck as after paying out a large amount of vet fees I now have to find another large amount in premiums to continue to pay for insurance for a pet I do not have. How that is not fraudulent I dont know? Other providers do not operate like this and to anyone looking to insure your pets...think twice. All they have done is make the whole process difficult and hide behind the small print within the policy. I have made a complaint and of course as its an internal proceedure, my complaint was not upheld. They even got the reason for my complaint wrong!! Useless company.

I have.had this insurance for 6 years. Always paid by monthly direct debit. Sadly I lost my cat and needed to make a claim. I was expecting the remainder of the policy to be cancelled but I have found out that I have to continue to keep the policy for the rest of the year plus they will not consider my claim until the premiums have been paid in full. Even though the claim is for more than the remaining premiums. So they are now forcing to to commit fraud by insuring something I do not have plus they will not deduct the remaining premiums out of the claim. Totally unprofessional.

Hi Sarah, we are so sorry to hear about the loss of your cat and understand how upsetting this must be.

We do understand your frustrations; however, both us and customers are bound by the terms and conditions of the policy and the contract of insurance. Under these terms, when a claim is successfully made, the premiums remain payable for the full policy year, even if the policy is cancelled due to the loss of a pet. As an alternative to paying the remaining premiums upfront, you can continue your monthly payments for the rest of the policy year. This isn’t a case of being asked to insure a pet you no longer have, but rather a way to maintain your original payment plan and spread the cost of the cover already provided. We understand how this can feel unfair at such a difficult time and are sincerely sorry for any additional upset this may have caused.

We would like to reassure you that we recognise this policy term hasn’t always provided the best experience for our customers. As a result, we have recently changed the underwriters of our product and under the new arrangements, any outstanding premiums can now be deducted directly from a claim in situations like this. We see this as an important improvement and regret that this option
wasn’t available under the terms of your existing policy.

3rd year of being with Lifetime Pet…

3rd year of being with Lifetime Pet Cover. Premiums have increased year on year. I’ve never made a claim. Last time they auto renewed and a requested this didn’t happen this year, but it was still processed as though I’d accepted the invite. They were quick to cancel it down, but do remain vigilant about this. I’ve never claimed so literally can’t comment on the process, but I was unimpressed that when I went and quoted through their main website, it was cheaper than the renewal they had sent me - this was the cheapest quote I came across so I have stuck with them - but I don’t like companies that don’t reward loyalty.

It’s important to note that our prices are always based on calculated risk factors rather than simply being increased for renewal customers. These risk-based adjustments help ensure our premiums remain fair and reflect the true cost of providing comprehensive cover. You mentioned that a new quote appeared cheaper than your renewal. A new policy will most likely always be cheaper, even when comparing the same pet details, because new policies come with cover restrictions that do not apply to renewals.

These include:
Any pre-existing condition that first occurred or showed symptoms before the policy start date, or within the waiting period (the first 14 days for an illness or disease, or the first 48 hours for an injury or accident).
Any costs associated with BOAS surgery within the first 6 months of the policy start date if your pet was under 2 years old when cover began.
Any treatment or complementary medicine for cruciate ligament issues within the first 30 days, as well as any arthritis or related conditions that develop from them.

With a renewal policy, your cover continues seamlessly meaning if your pet has developed any conditions during your time with us, these will remain covered, without new waiting periods or exclusions.

We appreciate you also highlighting your renewal experience, and we’re glad our team was able to quickly resolve the automatic renewal issue. We regularly review our pricing to ensure competitiveness, and we’re pleased to hear you still found our quote offered the best value for your needs. Lost my pet due tragic accident

Lost my pet due tragic accident, was asked to pay maintaining amount of my cover, otherwise they won't release my claim..had to pay for the rest of my few months of the cover. Wouldn't recommend to anyone! Didn't get any update until I rang them myself, plus trying in any possible way not to pay for the claim. Discrase.

Just don't

I’ve been with Lifetime Pet Cover for over five years, paying thousands in premiums the entire time. The first and only time I tried to make a claim has been an absolute nightmare.

I’ve been given the runaround for months between Lifetime Pet Cover and their underwriter, with neither party taking responsibility or providing clear answers. My claim hasn’t been processed, communication has been awful, and at one point their paperwork even stated my dog had died at a point I wasn't at home.

To make things worse, my policy was suddenly renewed under a completely different underwriter with a higher premium, all while my original claim and complaints remain unresolved.

After five years of loyalty, this experience has shown me that this policy was a complete waste of money and time. Avoid this company – the moment you actually need them, you’ll discover how poor their service really is.

Although we have recently changed the insurer behind our products, this is not the reason for any increase in your renewal premium. Premiums increase each year due to the natural rise in risk as pets age, and we aim to be as transparent as possible about this.
