Since 1990, The School for Dutch, located in the heart of the popular expat neighbourhood De Pijp in Amsterdam, has been helping students of all levels improve their Dutch language skills. We offer a variety of courses at convenient times, with a strong focus on speaking and real-life communication. From simple situations like ordering at a supermarket to more in-depth conversations with colleagues or friends, our lessons prepare you for everyday life in the Netherlands. We have created a safe, comfortable and “gezellige” learning environment where you are encouraged to make mistakes and learn through trial and error — just like you did when learning your first language as a child. Our method, Dutch the Natural Way, has helped expats build confidence in Dutch for over 30 years. We believe that language is first and foremost a tool for communication, which is why we encourage students to start speaking Dutch from day one. In the beginning, it’s important to keep things simple. Rather than focusing too much on grammar rules and details, we help you build confidence by speaking first — and refining accuracy as your skills improve. Many learners wait until they feel their Dutch is nearly perfect before they start speaking.
