Received my cabinet last week amazing quality and customer service

Fantastic product and great service from the Lagom team.

Ordered a Walnut hifi rack and was overwhelmed at the qhality and value.

Was really looking forward to receiving my stand but was very disappointed to see that instead of "dark chocolate brown", the walnut used on my stand was made of front panels that were more sapwood than heartwood and so were closer to the colour of ash or sycamore in large sections. The guy at Lagom tried to tell me that many people prefer the white sapwood and that it's just as good as the dark heartwood. That seemed obviously wrong to me - what you want from walnut are the dark chocolate colours and natural highlights - not large sections of blonde sapwood. Sure enough, a cursory search of the internet will tell you that sapwood is almost universally seen as much less desirable beyond the occasional streak and also less valuable. Sapwood is less durable, lacks the fungi/worm resistant properties of heartwood, is more prone to shrinking and cracking over time and is less resistant to decay. It also looks much worse - american black walnut is famous for its dark brown hues with purple highlights. Nobody buys walnut hoping to receive a cabinet with largely blonde sections intermixed with some darker sections. Or sections with sharp divides between light and dark sections (as opposed to gentle highlights and swirls). If the whiter sections had been put facing the back I could have tolerated it (though the quality differences would still have been disappointing) but the very whitest sections seem to have been chosen to go at the front of my cabinet.
I simply cannot believe for a moment that more than a fraction of 1% of people prefer the sapwood, as the chap at Lagom claimed.

In response to the response from Lagom:

This review repeats the experience I had on the phone of suggesting that essentially my disappointment in receiving streaky wood with large blond sections is my own subjective and unusual perspective. Suggesting that my approach hindered the possibility of "constructive dialogue" is hard to understand. I called to say I was disappointed with the wood and sent photos. I am not sure what I am said to have done wrong other than fail to accept that large blond and streaky sections is just as desirable in walnut as dark chocolate brown with purple and darker accents.

As far as I see it there are 2 possibilities:

1. I am right. Significant sections of lighter wood (beyond some minor and attractive highlights here and there) is less desirable and less attractive in walnut.
2. I am wrong. Most people are just as happy with streaky, light-dominated sections in their walnut furniture as with dark chocolatey colours and darker brown/purple/red accents. (This would surprise me a lot, not least give the description and photographs on the Lagom website itself, which emphasises the dark chocolate colour of walnut and the even darker brown, purple and reddish accents accompanied by photographs of similarly dark wooden stands).

But I have no wish to be unfair and others can decide for themselves if Lagom are willing to be transparent about this: I wrote a similar review on the Lagom website with a photo of my rack. For some reason, unlike the many positive reviews, Lagom has chosen not to put my review on their website. This should already trigger some caution - their website shows only positive reviews and my negative review simply never appeared on the website.

Nevertheless, I would invite Lagom to put it up now with the photo. Then people who see this review can make up their own mind as to whether the level of blond sections is (a) typical and (b) just as desirable as the darker sections of wood.

If my photo (under the name James, with the review similar to as above) doesn't appear, then you'll draw your own conclusions.

If, however, it does appear and people happen agree with me that lighter, streaky wood is less desirable and attractive then I think the response I have had is akin to what the kids call 'gaslighting'. To me it was obvious that darker walnut is more desirable and attractive and I yet I have been told that I am wrong, that I am alone in my views; that my opinion is "hindering constructive dialogue"; and that huge numbers of Lagom customers specifically request blond sections of wood in their cabinets (can that really be true?!). That all seems unlikely to me but let's see my review and pics up on the website and others can decide for themselves.

We truly cannot fault this company. We ordered a cabinet with our measurements in late May, and within 6 weeks our cabinet had arrived! Due to some sort of error in the workshop, unfortunately the wrong cabinet arrived (the right address was on the wrong box, mistakes happen, we’re only human!). Of course we phoned the workshop, and within 5 minutes of us emailing them the details of our order, they phoned us back to say they would deliver the correct cabinet that evening, free of charge. One of the owners delivered it (driving 3 hours from the studio to our home) himself to make sure everything was to our liking, and took away the incorrect cabinet, as well as all of the packaging for the correct one. We can’t thank them enough for their service, and if we ever need any more furniture we will definitely be choosing this company, as well as recommending it to anyone who will listen! Thanks again!

Very high quality and superbly finished product. Excellent communication from the moment the order was placed through to delivery. The timescale was made absolutely clear from the off and every single stage of the timeline was reached on schedule. Delivery process was also excellent. My son is absolutely delighted with the unit for his record player and vinyl collection.

Delivered on time. The delivery was not straight forward but the Co. ensured their couriers got to my shipping company on time. The item came as described and is perfect for my vinyl collection and equipment

Really good customer service - really good at getting back to me and answering questions. No issues at all from order to delivery. Most importantly the units is so well built and the finish is lovely. Really really pleased with it.
