JFT not only helped me once to defend and win my case against a London agency acting unlawfully against me, but they are doing it again!

Justice For Tenants has been really great at helping us hold our old landlord and estate agent to account. Even before entering into the full court dispute that JFT helped me access, their sheer mention was alreaddy enough to bring scumbag estate agents and slum-lords to the negotiating table.

Our engagement with JFT surrounded a rent repayment order for four applicants across a four-month period.

Date of Engagement: September 2024
Date of Closure: 11th July 2025

Initially our case was met with an unreasonable offer from the landlord & JFT gave us some clear guidelines to what they would expect the result to be if taken to court. With this guidance we countered & the case went quiet for a few months.

We had to follow up a few times to see if the landlord had responded to our counter & it was not clear if the counter had been made or not. However, during this time we received a significantly better offer; around 55% of our total claim & we settled out of court.

We did this as we were advised that the hearing would most likely not result in our full claim amount anyway and we wanted to move on.

Whilst it is agreed that they are fairly transparent about their fees (July 2025) The hearing fee & “incurred” fees were added above the 30% + VAT.

We asked why we had to pay the hearing fee of £220 even though we settled a month ahead of the hearing date, but no clarification was given.

All in all - we got a good result. The landlord was held accountable & we are happy. Just a few areas preventing 5 stars.

They should help tenants but, Can't take more applications. Thank you. This is very helpful ...

Saved my mental health — literally.
Living in London as a foreigner, one of the worst things that can happen is dealing with a two-faced, greedy landlord, someone who pretends to be friendly but takes advantage of your lack of local knowledge and manipulates you with their position of power. It’s the kind of situation that makes you feel completely alone and lose trust in society.

I’m incredibly grateful to have found Justice for Tenants. They genuinely help, get straight to the point, and don’t try to profit from your distress. Usually, you’re expected to pay an expensive hourly rate just to speak to a solicitor, and that alone stops many people from seeking help and forces them to silently endure abuse.

Every tenants and every landlord (so they behave better) should know about Justice for Tenants. It should be mentioned in every rental agency package I think.

I was really impressed with how seamless my interactions with JFT were. I’d been directed to lawyers who they said can help and pointed in other directions for issues not covered by JFT.
Thank goodness for organisations like this one, fighting for the little man.

UPDATE…
Although I was very clear with my situation and dates unfortunately once the lawyers looked into our case we were 6 years too late to claim.
So laws are made to protect landlords breaking the law??? Go figure???
However with any luck karma will catch up with the LL on my behalf. Plus I have my voodoo doll, I’ll be sure to give it extra grief! 😂

Justice for Tennants couldn't be more helpful, their advise and patience is second to none. Just when your ex UK landlord refuses to pay back your deposit after forcing us to move after 15 months, with a new higher rent, higher deposit, new furniture to purchase and other costly life events - our deposit would ease some of the burden. J4T offer informed options and answer very quickly, definitely recommend if you need help as a Tenant. Shortly moving on to the next step, can't wait to see what the ex-landlord does - didn't think we'll take it further, well him living abroad won't stop us!

After being served a section 21 notice I was seeking some advice. I never heard about Justice for Tenants before but after being given their details I made contact and heard back from Steven via email within a couple of days. He provided me with such great advice and made me feel so seen. Realising that my Deposit was not secured within the legal timeframe they have shared my details with solicitors to hopefully help navigate making a claim and getting our deposit and potentially some compensation back. It's great to have services such as Justice for Tenants who protect us from landlords who are corrupt and continue breaking the law thinking we, the tenants are too stupid to know our rights. So relieved that I contacted Justice for Tenants, having tried previously with no response to my initial tenancy issues, I tried again about the failure for my then landlord to secure my deposit within the correct amount of time. I heard back straightaway and was completely reassured by the helpful nature of their email. It was an easy service to use and upload various documents to. They have now put in the hands of their solicitors, who i am hopeful will pursue my case to a successful outcome.

I contacted Justice For Tenants with a complex but extremely serious case involving disrepair, health harm, and a social landlord threatening eviction after an Ombudsman found them guilty of severe maladministration. JFT's website claims they support tenants facing systemic issues. In reality, all I received was a referral to a “no win no fee” solicitor who ended the call abruptly and never followed up.
I contacted JFT again, hoping for guidance, signposting or basic support. I was told they no longer have the capacity to help — despite advertising advice for disrepair, regulatory failure and tenant harassment. If all they do is refer people to third-party solicitors, they should be transparent about that. Vulnerable people deserve honesty, not false hope.
I’ve also contacted Shelter, Citizens Advice and the Ombudsman. No one is stepping in. This experience highlights exactly how tenants fall through the cracks of a broken system.

Their advice and assistance was invaluable, they answered emails really quickly and all of their advice was really clear. I can't recommend Justice For Tenants highly enough.
