Yes to Crib, but check EVERYTHING first! (+ Louana is a babe! )

The bed in the crib was much more comfortable that we prepared for, I traveled with a 6.3" partner and while it was snug, it wasn't overly ridiculous. We really enjoyed the ease of the crib, it was easy to drive and had great acceleration, and it allowed us to move with good agility in a way we wouldn't have been able to on our specific route if we did have a bigger vehicle/caravan. The crib is well designed but quite poorly maintained, a lot of the clips for the blinds either don't pop or don't even have a popper left. It wasn't much of a hassle though, I recon having driven two separate ones over the course of 3 weeks in NZ one of the changes I'd make if I hired again would be getting the lowest insurance package instead of the most expensive one. I recon it's also helpful to note that the reviews are inconsistent because the vehicles are inconsistent - they look the same but they are quite different inside - so if I was going to hire again I would plan for an extra 30-45 minutes at collection to CHECK EVERYTHING - fold out the bed, pop the blinds, check the fridge, windows, turn it all on - engine, lights, the lot! We didn't do it to this extent but when we did find a problem with our first allocated vehicle at Auckland Airport the most wonderful staff member, Louana, helped us switch with significant ease to a second vehicle that we had no problems with. I give the company and the Crib 3 stars, but I give Louana 5!

Veel gebreken

Veel gebreken

Laat ik met het goede punt beginnen. Bij het ophalen kregen we een Mercedes Sprinter mee, Polaris6. Het diesel verbruik gedurende reis viel me erg mee, gemiddeld ongeveer 1:8.

Dat was het goede punt. Verder ben ik niet erg te spreken over de camper. Bij het ophalen/overdracht in Auckland werden we direct geconfronteerd met een bed waarvan de lattenbodem los lag, dit moest ter plaatse nog gerepareerd worden. Tevens bleken de 4 bijgeleverde campingstoelen allemaal kapot te zijn. Ook die moesten nog vervangen worden. Hier moesten we ongeveer 45 minuten op wachten.

Omdat het onze eerste reis met een camper was weet je ook niet goed waar je op moet letten als je hem mee krijgt. Gedurende de reis bleken er veel mankementen aan de camper te zijn.

Een opsomming.
Onderste scharnier hordeur zat los.
Hordeur sloot niet goed af.
Ladekasten onder aanrecht sloten slecht of gingen niet goed open.
Bovenste lade boven aanrecht scharnier los.
Hor achterste slaapgedeelte kapot.
Kussens/matrassen slaapgedeelte waren niet stevig genoeg, maar dat is misschien persoonlijk.
Afvoer douche verstopt. Heb ik onderweg een ontstopper voor moeten kopen. Motoroliepeil was laag. Waarvoor ik motorolie heb moeten kopen. Voor beide voorgaande punten is overigens na terugkomst vergoed.
Rekje koelkastdeur kapot.
Ledlamp boven bed knipperde irritant.
Dakluik douche lekte.
Barst in tv, die we overigens niet gebruikt hebben.
Geen handdoeken/theedoeken en dweiltjes aanwezig.
Kapotte blikopener.
Uitzethendel achterste dakluik afgebroken.
Deur kast waar jassen konden worden opgehangen klemde enorm.
Bij de eerste regenbui bleken de ruitenwissers niet goed te vegen.

Na ongeveer 500 km rijden verscheen op dashboard dat het voertuig een onderhoudsbeurt moest hebben.

Op een gegeven moment deed de warmwater brander het niet meer. Hiervoor gebeld. Er zou een monteur langs komen om het te repareren. Hij zou na ongeveer anderhalf uur ter plaatse zijn. Na 2 uur wachten weer gebeld en gezegd dat ik verder ging, omdat ik geen zin had om langer te wachten. Verzoek was toen om bij een reperateur in Lake Tekapo langs te gaan.
De reparateur kon niets betekenen, omdat de brander het op dat moment weer deed. Daarna overigens geen storingen meer gehad met de brander.

Omdat we nog steeds problemen hadden met de afvoer van de douche en eerder genoemde gebreken, werd me verzocht om langs de vestiging in Queenstown te komen om de gebreken te verhelpen. Toen ik daar op 18 februari even voor 17 uur aankwam was de vestiging gesloten. Op dat moment had ik een mederwerker van Jucy aan de telefoon die me verzocht de volgende ochtend terug te komen. Ik gaf aan dat ik daar geen tijd voor had ivm een strak reisschema en ik gaf aan dat ik een korting wilde op de camperhuur ivm de vele gebreken. Hij gaf aan dat ik hen dan eerst de kans moest geven om de gebreken te verhelpen.

Ik gaf aan dat ze voor de aflevering de camper goed hadden moeten controleren op gebreken en nu niet de verantwoording bij mij moesten neerleggen. Hij bleef echter volhouden dat ik hun in de gelegenheid moest stellen om de gebreken te verhelpen.

Ik heb mijn reis vervolgd zonder verder de gebreken te laten verhelpen omdat ik mijn reis daarvoor niet verder voor wilde onderbreken.

Na terugkomst mijn klachten bij de persoon neergelegd die de inname van de camper regelde. Hij gaf aan dat hij me geen korting kon geven, maar dat ik een klacht moest indienen.

Dat heb ik later gedaan via Travelhome, waar ik de camper geboekt had.

Na hun tussenkomst is er een een bedrag geretourneerd wat ik eigenlijk te laag vond, gezien de prijs die ik voor de camper moest betalen. Ik ben toch akkoord gegaan omdat Jucy niet meer wilde vergoeden.

Het was overigens een camper van Star, maar dat valt onder de firma Jucy.

The worst

The worst. Do not do it. We spent $8700. Nz and due to a family emergency had to leave after one day (rented for 15 days). Customer service was rigid and uncaring. They would not consider partial refund or a credit. I would never recommend them.

I WISH I HAD READ THESE REVIEWS BEFORE…

I wish I had read these reviews before renting ...

Expectations:

Jucy is a budget brand here in NZ, and it used to be ok. I often travel with budget operators and expect high Kms, and older vehicles that are clean but showing wear. In my experience the vehicles hired from these companies have always run well, with no issues. I also expect to have to go to a collection point for the vehicle a little way from the airport, it's a little time consuming but you know it's part of the deal and you just allow for it.

I have always received "good service" from budget rental car companies

e.g. pickup shuttles prompt enough, service agents to take money and pass you your contract and keys etc excellent (although there might be some wait time in a queue), drop off easy and all administration covered before you leave the depot.

My expectations were based on previous examples here in NZ and in Auckland in particular.

What I got:

1. NO transport from Auckland Airport to the depot after 3.30pm (and this was a week-day). While the booking documentation states it, we are not TOLD at time of booking / nor informed of the alternative arrangements. Also when booking the shuttle it allows you to select later times.

Bad systems
Bad comms
Bad organisation.

I was literally 'abandoned' at the airport in the pouring rain and in exceptionally high humidity. That was not nice.

2. NO refund for alternative transport to the depot

Luckily I managed to track down a customer rep who was on her way home from the office which closed at 3.30 pm, who told me I could get a taxi to the depot, and my car was outside the depot waiting for me. That they would refund the taxi fare.

I have chased them at least six times for this refund. It still has not arrived. The minimum taxi fare was $45 !! (or wait an hour for an uber to arrive in the rush hour rainy day traffic while pouring with sweat, very upset and stressed and now facing the rush hour which I had planned to avoid).

3. half way through my week's rental I realised that I needed to add an extra day. I arranged a day by phone easily. Given their payment policy on booking is a few weeks in advance I expected them to take payment from my credit card at that point. They did not. What business operates like that??!

Instead, they debited me (without the credit for the taxi fare on which I am still waiting) a whole month later.

I am a budget traveller and that significantly affected my financial planning for the next month.

4. The Suzuki Swift was fit for purpose, the veins on one of the air con vents were broken but that was not critical, and the acceleration felt as though it needed sorting out but that was not critical for my 'around town' purposes.

Jucy has seriously gone downhill since I used them a number of years ago. I can only hope they sort themselves out. Until then ...

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY - IT'S A COMPLETE JOKE!

Avoid this company! Faulty equipment and no customer service

We rented a van for 1 month and had many problems : faulty equipment in the van (broken fridge, leaking shower, leaking grey water tank, broken window, broken equipement). When our window (passenger side) stayed stuck in open position, despite contacting them many times, they never replied and we had to take care of everything. The last day, when we drop off the van, they didn't want to bring us to the airport with the shuttle (as it is written in the contract), they said they would reimburse the taxi but 4 months later, still no answer from them after 5 emails.
We definitely don't recommand this company !!!

Another candid story, another 1-star review, and it’s FOR A REASON!!!

JUCY is a company full of corporate individuals who DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. Plain and simple, they rent out their extensive fleet of faulty, old, and poorly maintained vehicles. When hardworking customers pay lots of money to rent a good product for their vacation/holiday, JUCY provides a very shotty product, and then screws the customer no matter what. People who give them 5 stars are either plants or they’re just damn lucky. Don’t take the chance and rent from JUCY -- you may not be so lucky! ... Crazy enough, after we read other reviews ourselves, we realized we were one of the lucky customers. That’s how bad it is with JUCY.

What we enountered:
1) A campervan in poor condition (metal clip to secure the overhead netting was broken, plastic guards were missing near sharp edges, a window latch was broken, and window shades were unable to clip to the wall. Importantly as well, there were many screws & bolts missing at the integral junction between the van's overhead cap and its main body. This gave us a reasonable level of concern about the van's structural integrity.)
2) The foldable camping chairs we paid extra for were not given to us. After turning around to get our chairs, we were given broken ones!
3) Our front and rear windshield wipers STOPPED WORKING at the most inopportune moments. There is no way that JUCY didn’t know about this issue prior to our rental! THIS WAS CLEAR NEGLIGENCE ON THEIR PART, AND WE HOPE THIS DOESN’T HAPPEN TO YOU. IT ALMOST CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS. Seriously, WTF!?
4) The grey-water tank would back up and pool in the shower. When traveling to a dump station to rectify the situation, water would slosh everywhere. (It created many messes for my wife and I to clean up and then sanitize).
5) The kitchen knives were in terrible condition. The bread knife was exceptionally dull, and the main kitchen knife struggled to slice literally anything!
6) The plastic hose attachment (used for filling up our freshwater tank) was… MISSING! It caused inefficient dump station runs, created a mess (I got drenched each time), it wasted our time, and caused a backup of angry camper waiting behind us.
7) The spare tire was… MISSING! Traveling thousands of kilometers across NZ without getting a flat made us feel like only luck got us through our trip, but surely does not disqualify JUCY from their negligence.
8) Lastly, our vehicle decided to frequently lock itself, by itself, while we were parked at campsites. To be absolutely clear, this occurred without us sitting on the key fob, without us touching the inside door buttons, or without a magic spell. No matter the cause, this issue could have, yet again, put us in a dire situation. We feel lucky for our foresight to keep the one key fob they provided on our person at all times. If we hadn't, we definitely would have been stranded.

---> JUCY's response to all this. "You didn't notify us within 24 hours." It's their loophole to absolve themselves of all responsibility. We are responsible adults, took the bull by the horns, stayed safe, and decided to act mature and discuss it at the end. Instead, JUCY would've rather had us call them to complain when we discovered our issues without cell reception, 100's of kilometers away their nearest branch, or during another scenario that wouldn't make sense.

There’s lots of campervan companies out there to choose from… Just do you self a favor and avoid JUCY at all costs. You might spend a bit more $ with another company, but the piece of mind you’ll have on vacation will be well worth it!

Another 1 star for Jucy rentals and if i could give it no stars i would. i have a contact for a ferry reimbursement on a relocation from Auckland to Christchurch and even though i have sent numerous correspondence and rang them they do not respond or duck side ways. There staff seem nice but all teenagers or seem so who quite frankly don’t have any business sense whatsoever and i their communication is woeful. The whole Juicy concept is flawed. Anyway i will co time to peruse the outstanding debt through legal channels

We recently had the unfortunate…

We recently had the unfortunate experience of renting a JUCY van.
Right from the start it was a bad experience,
The electric cable had been melted so was unusable,
No gas in the gas bottle either.
When we called the company about it they wasn’t bothered but agreed to refund us if we got the the replacements. A month on and the refund still hasn’t come through even though they guaranteed it would be done before we left.
The cassette for the toilet hadn’t been emptied from the previous renters.
The pipe from the waste tank was hanging off so we couldn’t empty the waste tank.
The kitchen tap was broken so when you turned tap on the water sprayed up the rear door.
No sink plug so we couldn’t wash up either.
The glass covers that cover the sink and stove would not stay up so I had to tie them up
These were just the worst items among many that was wrong.
If I was you and thinking of renting from this company or there sister company (star rental’s) I would immediately change my mind.
If you want cheap and crappy carry on.
JUCY still have not offered up any sort of compensation after all our complaints and emails so we are now chasing them through the travel company that we purchased through

Travvia seller NOT trusted

We found a motorhome seller via Trade Me called Getaway Motorhomes.
Getaway Motorhomes is owned by the JUCY holding company, Travvia.
They behaved in a very unfair and untrustworthy way. They repeatedly assured us that our vehicle would be ready, but after four days of delays, they stopped responding altogether. On the final day, they sent a vague message about issues with the car and then never answered our calls again. Overall, this situation cost us more than NZD 2,000.

Worst Rental Experience Ever – Unsafe Vehicles, No Support, and Shocking Hygiene Issues

I rented a campervan from Jucy in Auckland and it turned out to be the most disappointing and frustrating rental experience I’ve ever had.

Our first van already had around 350,000 km on the clock, and you could feel every single one of them. The suspension/foundation was in terrible condition — every bump in the road sent passengers in the back flying. During the very first rainy night, we discovered that the van was leaking in multiple places, leaving the beds soaked.

We tried calling Jucy several times, but nobody picked up. With no support available, we had to interrupt our trip and drive all the way back to Auckland to report the issue. The van couldn’t be repaired, so we were given a replacement — which unfortunately wasn’t any better.

The second van seemed uninspected, uncleaned, and poorly prepared. The fuel tank was only half full, and once we reached a campsite, we discovered the gas bottle was completely empty, leaving us unable to cook or heat water. Again, during rain, water entered the vehicle. Not as severe as with the first van, but still unacceptable.
Every attempt to contact customer service from that point on was ignored. The only communication we received was the approval to reimburse the gas bottle refill — but we still had to take care of everything ourselves.

The worst shock came at the end of the rental: during the return inspection, we were told that the toilet was full and hadn’t been emptied. We never used it. This means we spent five weeks traveling with a toilet full of other people’s waste. Absolutely disgusting.

We had booked the van including the highest service package, which promised several things — such as a working heater and a full gas bottle at pickup — that were simply not provided. And despite all the issues, we were still asked to pay an additional 200 NZD cleaning fee.

This experience was beyond unacceptable. Poorly maintained vehicles, zero customer support, unfulfilled service promises, and severe hygiene failures. I strongly advise anyone considering Jucy to think twice.

Do not book a with Jucy service and state of vehicles totally unacceptable

If I could have given the company no stars I would have. Appalling service, faulty vans, impossible to complain to a manager and talk about a refund. Do Not book with them and be careful starz rv now part of jucy so if you book through them you will get jucy.

Avoid if travelling with car seats

Hired a condo camper van for me my wife and 8 month old, as the website when booking assured us that there was provision of a safe and legal way of securing a child seat that was ideal for us, and explicitly stated the condo was the ideal choice for families for this reason. On arrival they hand you a car seat and tell you essentially to figure it out yourself. These aren’t isofix seats they are secured by the seatbelt. After an hour of doing this we realised the seatbelt does not lock in place as required by the online instruction manual we found (so the car seat would loosen as you drive around which is what keeps the car seat on the seat). They attempted various frankly dubious methods of securing the car seat that we were not happy with as did not seem official ways of doing this. We requested a refund as we weren’t convinced this was safe or even legal, but were repeatedly denied this refund so are now potentially thousands of dollars out of pocket. Hoping we can pursue this and get a refund as it is not acceptable.
Update : no refund but thankfully we have managed to sort an alternative vehicle from them that works better with a car seat which is a relief!!!!

Sh*t service Sh*t camper

The camper was old, it stank, the gas burner didn't work properly, nearly all the curtains had to be fixed with duct tape because the buttons were broken or missing. We were really excited about our trip through New Zealand, but Jucy made us try very hard to enjoy it. You pay a lot of money for a camper but basically get a clapped-out piece of metal on wheels, and the service is terrible, everyone is grumpy, probably because they receive so many complaints about the stuff they rent out... LOOK FOR ANOTHER OPTION THAN JUCY IF YOU'RE GOING TO TRAVEL!

Achtung Betrug.

Achtung Betrug.
Haben einen Monat nach der Rückgabe noch eien Tankfüllung von meiner Kreditkarte abgebucht, mit der Begründung, wir hätten den Camper nicht vollgetankt zurückgegeben.
Auch nach Zusenden des Rückgabeprotokolls mit Verweiss auf Tank voll, war die Kommunikation schleppend und aufgrund des Wechselkurses haben wir den kürzen gezogen und nicht die komplette Summe zurückerstattet bekommen.

Zum Urlaub selber.

Ca. 3 Stunden warten am Tag der Abholung
Camper war ok, für den Preis aber zu sehr runtergekommen.
Extra bezahlter Campingstuhl war kaputt.
Vorhänge waren zum Teil auch kaputt.

Verbrauch des Jucy Chaser bei ca. 12-15l/100km

Discovercars.com…

We booked a rental through Discovercars.Com and that’s how we ended up with Jucy. Never again. Use a reputable company I.e. Enterprise, Hertz, Budget….anyone else. We purchased insurance through Discovercars.com when we made the booking and it was paid for at the time of the booking. When we got the rental car, we were asked about purchasing insurance for $25 NZ per day. I thought it was included in our original booking as we paid for insurance. I didn’t realize it was an additional insurance charge that they were adding on. Why would I purchase insurance for $25/day when I had already purchased and paid for insurance when I did the original booking. Very confusing. Stay away from third party companies because when there is a problem, Jucy doesn’t want to help the customer. STAY AWAY from this less than honest car company.

I would give them 5 stars except for…

Overall, we were pleased with our Jucy experience. The campervan we rented functioned fine and got us from the north island to the south island in New Zealand without incident. When I reached out to team to express some minor concerns after our trip, they were responsive. I would recommend Jucy to anyone traveling in New Zealand.

Jucy campervans are poorly maintained

Absolutely not recomended. We rented a campervan i NZ, but the car had run more ½ mio kilometers - which in fact is not a problem IF THE CAR was well maintained. But it wasn't! There was no oil on the stick and the rib belt burst 1.200 km from pickup location. Hollydays had to be completely rescheduled with no help from Jucy

Wouldn't book with them again

Long wait both to drop off and pick up, echoing what others have said understaffed and kept asking for updates when picking up (as we had a tour booked and needed to leave) and no updates and overhead it was because there was mould in our van. Fridge absolutely stank as well, buttons missing from curtains, really old hard to drive automatic and generally didn't seem to care at all when we gave feedback in person and wouldn't do anything for us or offer some compensation when we complained because we didn't complain on the day it happened (even though we were then in a rush because of the delays!). Overheard a poor guy had been waiting 4 hours with his family in there for his van when we dropped ours off and staff didn't really do much to help. Badly run operation, van was OK on the road and grand to sleep in but couldn't keep anything in the fridge because of the smell transferring to items in there too! Would never go with them again, so spend your money on a better quality service company!

Leider unser happy mit Jucy nicht…

Leider unser happy mit Jucy nicht gefunden.
1 Stern dafür, dass er nicht liegengeblieben ist und 1 Stern dafür, dass das WC, der Gaskocher und der Boiler funktioniert hat.
Wir hatten in Neuseeland einen Jucy 3Berth condo für 28 Tage gemietet.
Die Übergabe des Gefährts in Auckland ging ziemlich zackig und die Informationen wo man z.B die Gasflasche auffüllen lassen kann und wie man zu WC-Taps kommt waren nicht hilfreich.
Die Gasflasche war nicht voll und wir hatten grosse Mühe, eine Tankstelle zu finden, welche die Gasflasche wieder auffüllen konnte, obwohl bei der Übergabe gesagt wurde, dass man die Gasflasche bei jeder Tankstelle auffüllen könne.
Auch die WC-Tabs bekam man nicht - wie gesagt wurde - im Supermarkt sondern in einem Camping-Bedarf Geschäft.
Als wir den Kühlschrank für uns einrichten wollten, brach ein Teil der Tablar Halterung ab. Auch verlor er immer wieder Wasser, so dass wir immer wieder eine grosse Wasserlache vor dem Kühlschrank hatten.
Beim ersten Befüllen des Frischwassertankes stellten wir fest, dass der Einfüllschlauch im Auto undicht ist und Wasser ins Auto tropft was dazu führte, dass unsere Kleider nass wurden.
Das Bett oberhalb der Fahrerkabine musste regelrecht erklettert werden und war in der höhe so schmal, dass man nur hinein und hinaus robben konnte. Auch war es für 2 Personen so eng, dass man sich fast nicht drehen konnte. Ist für Personen mit Rückenproblemen und Platzangst absolut nicht zu empfehlen. Mir jedenfalls, war es nach 3 Wochen wegen sehr starken Rückenschmerzen nicht mehr möglich in diesem Bett zu schlafen, dass wir in der letzten Wochen Motel-Zimmer buchen mussten.
Den auch das untere Bett, welches zuerst mit einer zusätzlichen Holzplatte gebaut werden musste, war keine Lösung. Wenn die Polster ausgelegt waren, hatte man 3 Gräben im Rücken und die Länge von 1.88M war nur 40cm breit.
Die gesamte Einrichtung war veraltet, verbraucht oder durchgelegen und von den Materialen her sehr schwer, was sich auf den Benzinbedarf auswirkte.
