Gym workers hardly work, some come off as quite hostile. There seems to be a gym policy to never put the AC on unless it’s over 32C. That being said upper equipment is great, legs is good but missing some more niche machines.

Great value
Plenty of equipment and space for any kind of session, clean facilities, and very helpful staff - great value for £30/month! I haven't taken a class but have seen them in progress and they look great for all abilities. Would recommend this gym to anyone.

I like the your gymn
I like the your gymn , the reason I left before is that there were no sanitizers in the building, I sent 6 emails pointing this out but received no replies , as hands carry most germs this is a wise precaution and it’s counter productive getting people fit by exercise the making them ill by poor hygene . Then Covid stuck , after which the website revealed sanitizer are available, now it’s seems they are not , covid is still with us so why not restore sanitizers? It will save you money in the long run.

Aircon still an issue
Aircon still an issue. Are there any plans to resolve this at all as its been a problem since last summer. Today it was hotter in the gym than outside. This can't surely be right. Can you reassure that there are plans to resolve this please.
Use the gym three time a week every week.

With the recent warm weather, gym environments can naturally feel warmer due to both external temperatures and the nature of exercise itself. However, we completely understand that it should not feel hotter inside than outside.

A/C never works
The hottest months of the year, the A/C never works, only the ladies area which should be made available to all when the A/C is not working. Ask management what’s going on with it, they feed me a load waffle, considering I’m from an engineering background, it’s laughable. The gym should be shut on the grounds of health and safety when the temperatures are excessive. Over a 1000 members and no water cooler, again laughable. The kit isn’t too bad tbh if breaks its roughly about 3 to weeks and it will be fixed, one of the smith machines is bent and the floor plate of the seated calf machine is sheared. The space is good. Watch out for the cleaner, she is often having mental episodes in the changing rooms, she also likes to clean when there are naked men around, which I raised previously with staff, who say it’s absolutely fine, I’m sure a male cleaner would not be allowed in the ladies whilst they are getting changed. It’s what as I class as a basic gym that includes most of the users too, who never put weights away, hog machines and sit on their phones. Most trained there for years and look exactly the same as they did when they started. When you make noise and lift heavy weights your looked at like a madman. If the A/C worked I would give it another 2 stars.

Our teams do carry out regular checks, but if you notice anything damaged or not working as expected, please let a member of the team know so it can be looked into. We’re also sorry to hear about the concerns you’ve raised regarding cleaning in the changing rooms and general gym etiquette. All members are expected to respect the space, return weights after use, and use equipment considerately so everyone can train comfortably.

Been a member of JD Southend gym for 6…
Been a member of JD Southend gym for 6 years and think its a great gym, staff always helpful and friendly my only issue is in the summer months the aircon never works well in hot weather, they never seem to solve the problem, every year its the same, on Sunday the gym was 28.4degrees, I found it very difficult to train.

Clean gym
Clean gym, no one stares at you and the staff are friendly and helpful. My PT, Joseph is kind, engaging, knowledgeable and enjoys a banter to keep me training, even when I don’t want to!!

First impressions.
Gym has plenty of equipment with enough duplicates to make it usable. Clean and easy to access.
My only negative is that like many gyms these days staff appear a little cold and don’t appear to interact with new members.
Gyms used to be a place where you would socialise as well as workout. Nature of the times unfortunately?
This does not impact my ability to complete my workouts, therefore for functionality seems adequate.

Very impressed with the whole…
Very impressed with the whole experience,

4/5 could do with some better equipment…
4/5 could do with some better equipment in the ladies only area. I often find it better for myself to go late at night so not so many people are there. It would also help if there was a QR code on every piece of equipment showing the noobies how to do the exercise correctly instead of guessing or having to “google it” apart from these points it’s very friendly everyone minds their own business so no one is judging you or what you are doing. A lot of equipment to choose from only machines are missing are crunch machine a few others for calf’s. Would recommend
