Max Pirini is a crook
Max was in communication with my wife, on 5/16/25, the day we were scheduled for a private guide of The Coliseum. We were told in an email from the company that for $350 euros, we would be picked up at our hotel at 4pm and then dropped off at our hotel at the conclusion of our private tour. Unbeknownst to us, the terms of service were changed in the confirmation that was attached to a follow up email. The confirmation stated we were to make our own way to the Coliseum and meet the guide there at 4pm. By the time we realized the terms had been changed...but we were still charged the same price for less service...it was 4:15pm. We arrived at the meeting point by taxi at 4:45pm.
After a lackluster attempt by the guide to gain us entrance at that time we were turned away by Coliseum staff. My wife Angela attempted to explain the situation to Max and his response was to make her feel stupid and to offer a 50 euro discount which we never received. I later asked Max to refund 175 euros... 1/2 of what we paid. He never responded to my message.
We had other tour groups to choose from but we selected this one because my son Nicholas and his bride Colleen used this company 6 years ago and said how impressed they were by being picked up and dropped off along with the tour that Max gave. I don't know what happened between then and now, but it seems to me his business practices are suspect. By writing this review, I am letting other people know they should not use Max Pirin's company for a tour in Rome.

Dear Mr & Mrs Crippen, This review you wrote is completely wrong and has no right to exist. Instead, it will help many discerning travelers continue to choose my agency, as your son Nicholas and his wife Colleen did, when they recommended my agency to you. First of all, they did a full day of Rome, not just the Walking tour of the Colosseum with no pick up and no drop off otherwise the price would have been higher. Only the rome full days includes the mercedes or sedan with private driver. It has been written on all the Viator and Tripadvisor platforms, and on our website for 26 years, that all walking tours start from the meeting point that were decided 26 years ago. Not from the hotels. When someone book a service, receives a confirmation via email in less than 24/48 hours with a PDF attachment with the ALL service details as it is on our websites, which states that the meeting point is near the Colosseum at the Arch of Constantine, along with all the inclusions and exclusions. If you didn't read the email and the details in the PDF it's certainly not our fault. We also advised you the day before to meet the guide Maria Teresa near the Arch of Constantine at 4:00 PM via WhatsApp the evening before, but we haven't received a response from you.That afternoon, my guide was waiting for you at the designated meeting point, and you called the office at 4:00 PM when the tickets said you must have entered the colosseum. You realized you hadn't read the PDF confirmation, making a serious number of mistakes. You could have visited the Roman Forum and the colosseum from outside, but you didn't want to do it because you were late to enter the Colosseum. We remind everyone that tickets have a specific entry time. Most likely, you didn't want to take the tour at all and made up a story to get a refund. Our guide had this impression. Strangely enough, on the same day, we had 12 private tours of the Colosseum and Roman Forum, and no one complained. Everyone met the guide as the PDF confirmation said, near the Arch of Constantine on time as it has been in the last 26 years on our websites. Everyone read their emails. Everyone except you and in 2025 is not acceptable. The bad and suspicious people is you. You need to be careful when booking and carefully review the tour details. We have the email communications and messages you sent and in all our answers we never never saud that pick up was at 4:00 pm at the hotel because you asked for a 4:00 pm tour of the colosseum. From the booking Confirmation and from the website: "Our official Tour Guide will meet you near the Arch of Constantine at 3:50 PM Your Tour guide Maria Teresa will have a signboard with your last name printed on it" All walking tours don't include pickup. Even the claim that we've changed the website is absurd and untrue. The site's content has been the same for 26 years. In this digital world where everyone writes what's BETTER for them, we find it all very absurd. Fortunately, this is the first time this has happened to us just to try to get a refund. Fortunately, people are smart and will continue to choose our private tours. Your SON did a full day rome tour and not half day walking tour with meeting point near the arch of constantine. That's why they had a car for the all day. They paid more than you. You've made a mistake. So sorry. Read the emails and pdf next time. You've probably learned the lessons now. Last, we sent you 50 euros refund. Unfortunately We cannot upload all the messages you sent via whatsapp. Have a Happy Life if you can.

Max Parini was a fantastic tour guide! We enjoyed the day with him as he shared history, knowledge and passion for Rome. He picked us up in his air conditioned van at our Air B&B in the early morning which was great to get an early start on the lines. Highly reccomend Max!

Fantastic Tour!
Max was our guide for two days in Rome and did an amazing job. He made touring the Vatican and the Colosseum an experience of a lifetime. Incredibly knowledgeable and personable. Even found restaurants that could accommodate my daughter's vegan diet.
Our third day was a tour to Tuscany with Salvatore. He was terrific and made the 2+ hour ride enjoyable. Scenery was out of this world!!
If you're visiting Rome or Italy in general, Italy Rome Tour with Max and company is the way to go.

Excellent tour!
Excellent tour, will definitely contact them again for another tour. They were waiting for us as we got off the cruise for our excursion, and gave us a fantastic tour. Marco was knowledgable about Rome and the sites we wanted to visit. He also gave us an excellent recommendation for lunch and our table was waiting for us when we arrived. Highly recommend!

Worth every penny!
Max was amazing! I truly cannot say enough good things about him. He picked us up at the hotel. We were the first people in the Coliseum. My 73 year old mother was with us and he doted on her. Took us all around Rome and to a fantastic place for lunch. After the Sistine Chapel my mother was tired. He was so kind and just sat with her, never rushing her and talked. When the tour was over he drove us to a couple “non-tourist” spots that were beautiful. It was truly worth every penny. Highly, highly recommend. Unbeknownst to us, this would be my moms last trip she ever took. Max made it the best experience of her life. I am so thankful to him for such an amazing day. You will not be disappointed with this tour. The places were amazing and Max was a gift from God.

I have engaged Italy Rome Tour for two different visits to Rome, one November 2017 and another November 2018. Both experience were excellent. I had hoped to hire Max again; however, Covid intervened.

Max was and is the best! I would absolutely use him again when we visit Italy. We went on our Honeymoon and not only was he knowledgable, he was kind and fun and we saw Rome all in one day! We did not feel rushed we really enjoyed ourselves!

Our experience was first class
Our experience was first class. Our tour took us to the Vatican, the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, the Catacombs, the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and the Forum. The restaurants they found for our lunch also first class and the food was delicious. Our driver and out tour guide were professional, friendly and knowledgeable. We were a group of four couples and the van that we toured in was very comfortable.

Max was awesome
Max was awesome. We had three days in Rome and in one day, we saw all the highlights - Vatican,St. Peters, Colosseum, Sistine Chapel, Forum, catacombs and more. He was very knowledgeable and has a great personality. We definitely would recommend him to a friend and would use him again in the future.

Max is second to none
Max is second to none. We've toured with Max twice. Rome is magical and Max does a great job showing off the city. 5 stars for sure. He'll pick you up from a cruise ship or in the city. Private 1 on 1 tours or small groups is his specialty.

You came to visit my beautiful Italy in on June 2019
I personally took care of every details of your itineraries and tours. I responded to every request very quickly, as I have done with all my clients for years. No one has ever waited more than 24 hours to receive an answer from me directly or from my office. It is called respect for those who work. You made me very specific requests for tours, like the one you complained about 3 years ago in Venice. Your complaint was that you paid too much for a private tour in Venice with a private boat to visit Murano and Burano for a full day with a guide that you agreed to pay for. That is incredible!!! In Rome you even hug me and thanks me for the tours i arranged and the patience i had…
The Venice tour I organized and that you agreed to pay for after so many emails I sent you with so many options and answers wich I still have in my database. I emailed you the various costs etc... I have sent you the booking confirmations and the total amount to pay for every services. The tours went very well with all my guides and drivers in italy and in Venice. You told me like my guides that the days were just perfect and very enjoyable, until we asked you to pay for the Private boat tour in Venice. As We agree you had to pay directly the skipper at the end of the day tour. We didn't take a dollar off, any commissions from the boat for honest intellectuals. In fact, you paid directly for the boat. The price was really really good and not as expensive as you said you paid. 180€ per person for a private boat with skipper and private guide on board for 2 adults and 3 children at the time. 800€ total from venice to burano and murano. Gas, skipper. That is nothing and very cheap. You said that on board of the cruise line you would have find the same tour for less !!!! It was impossible. May be 3 hours tour and not 8 hours disposal as you did.
This gentlemen did some extras hours as well and it was our fault if he had to pay more? Obviously the skipper ask you to pay for the time he spent with you. Your voucher said 6-7 hours and not more. If you did extra time the skipper charged you extra and I think was correct to pay extra. He also told you about it. Instead of 6 hours you did 8-9 hours and you need to pay for that or not?
I AM and we are all outraged by this review but we have sent you the invitation anyway, to appear a little more real. Having only 5 star reviews hasn't made us feel real in the last 22 years.
You booked shore excursion and walking tours with us from all ports in Italy and none of our guides and you never complained. How can you write Cocky and disengenuos. C'mon. You are not honest with your self above all.
You need to have respect for people and you don't have it. Especially after these 2 long years of covid. You have not learned anything. You were very rude and that's why we sent you the request to write a review, because we knew it but we wanted anyway to appear more real. Because no one is perfect, not us and not even you.
IMPORTANT INFO: When you agree with a price Quoted, thats's what you expect to pay. Don't tell me that on board of the cruise lines the price are better because on board of the ship the same Private tour it would have cost you 2 times more. This "Gentlemen" did shore excursion in messina, naples, venice and private tours in rome with me and everyone hug me and thanks me personally.
