Great chargers at Booths in Windermere…

Great chargers shame about Pre Auth....at Booths in Windermere however its pricey and whilst my charge cost was £20 currently £45 has been debited from my account. Just charge me for what i use! If i pay at a petrol station i'm charged for what i use.

Thank you for your four star review, and for your feedback. 

When you initiate a charge via a card, a pre-authorisation fee of £15.00 or £45.00 (depending on the charger model) will be reserved on your card. This will be taken each time you tap your card to try to start a charge and is intended to validate the payment card and ensure that sufficient funds exist to complete a transaction. Depending on who you bank with you may see these as pending transactions or they will appear to have been taken from your account. 

If the charge was successful, the pre-authorisation amount will be cancelled and replaced with the actual amount you were charged for the electricity received. If your charge was unsuccessful, the amount will be returned automatically. All pre-authorisation amounts are released automatically by InstaVolt; depending on who you bank with, it may take 5-10 working days (or sooner) to reflect this.

If you use our chargers regularly and would like to work around the pre-authorisation fees, you could download our app and select a pre-payment account. With a pre-payment account, you are required to deposit funds before a session is started, so no pre-authorisation is necessary.

Very happy with my initial visit to an…

Very happy with my initial visit to an instavolt charger but upon returning to top up before returning home I found two abandoned cars occupying the spaces which was very frustrating!

If you happen to find a charger blocked in future, if practical, please speak with a member of staff at the site to see if the car owner can be identified and asked to move. If this isn’t possible, or is a reoccurring issue, please supply images of the blocked charging bay to info@instavolt.co.uk so we can raise this with the site manager.

Apprently you dont pay for the speed of the charger.

So they can offer you 48-50kw on a 160kw charger at top prices.

Never had issues with any other companies fast charging. Seems very strange..........

Thats 1 customer lost. Thats not how you build a customer base.

***UPDATE***

I had already given you this information, but my car was the issue apprently. No other issue with any other companies chargers only instavolt.

£45 pre auth!!

£45 pre auth!!! Wtf. Excessive to say the least. Charging worked well but pricey and painful on the bank.

Rented an EV in Cumbria and every other charging point had £10-£25 pre auth and I was doing £10 charges just to give my rental enough juice to make the next stop along my way. It's also the fault of the Citroen EV I had with a poor battery capacity and my own timing restrictions as I travelled but £45 pre auth really??? All the other ones (x3), BE.ev (£25 pre auth), Tesla supercharger (£20 pre auth) and Gridserve at Southwaite services (£10 pre auth) all resolved my actual payment within seconds after finishing charging. NOT Instavolt?! Still waiting for £35 back against a £10 charge on a £45 pre auth. AVOID IF YOU'RE IN THE SAME BOAT AS ME AND DON'T HAVE UNLIMITED MONEY TO WORK WITH!! find your nearest alternative.

Instavolt, reduce your pre-auth in line with other companies or bring the timely resolution in line and not 5-10 working days as per your website. Wth are you thinking?

Visited InstaVolt in Whitehaven today for the first time and had a great experience. I bumped into Danny, who clearly works for InstaVolt, as I was a bit unsure about the process and asked for some help. He was excellent—very helpful, knowledgeable, and took the time to get everything sorted for me. Danny is a real credit to InstaVolt. Thanks again for the support; I’ll definitely be using their charging facilities again.

I’m not sure why I would come back

I’m not sure why I would come back, expensive and just 53kW charging. Only 9 cars here and loads of empty chargers so it’s not busy. Bit of a rip off really

I have found it so easy to use both the app and charging stations.

I have found it so easy to use both the app and charging of my vehicle via Instavolt. Easy to top up and locations are easily found and plenty all over the country. I have every faith and trust in Instavolt.

Quick and easy to use

Quick and easy to use. Car was charged quicker than we could complete our shopping. Only one thing, no wet weather covering whilst plugging the charger into the car.

I have just come to an insta volt…

I have just come to an insta volt charge point at odsal bradford.
Its my first ever time charging away from home. What a great experience i was lucky enough there was a operative called James who talked me through the process. I was on my way fully charged from 20% in 45 mins

I went to nanvers at kfc to charge my…

I went to manvers at kfc to charge my car went on number 1 tapped my bank card and folled instructions to plug into my car then waited then said not charging so unpluged it waited a bit then tried again same thing not charging so thats £30 then tried number 2 and same thing again another £15 so alltogether i have had £45 taking out off my bank and did not get my car charged could you pkease refund my money please

Best car chargers.

I always try and look for a instavolt charger when I need topping up or a complete charge, not the cheapest but I find by far one of the best, works every time first time for me, thank you.

Use of the plug cables

My problem was unexpected. It was the first time I have used Instavolt. I found I could hardly turn the cable to plug in. It was so heavy and stiff. It seemed to want to go sideways and I couldn't turn it to plug in finally managed in the end. But it was a huge struggle. And plugging it back in to the unit at the end was difficult.
I am female and fairly old. I bet it was designed by robust young men.
As a lot of EV purchases will be older people, think about all of us.

We are very sorry to hear that you found the charging cable difficult to manoeuvre, especially as this was your first time using InstaVolt. That must have been frustrating, and we completely understand how the weight and stiffness of the cable could make it challenging to plug in and return to the unit.

Our rapid DC chargers use thicker cables as they are designed to safely deliver high-powered charging. However, that does not take away from your experience, and accessibility and ease of use are extremely important to us. As more drivers of all ages transition to electric vehicles, it is vital that our network works well for everyone.

We have a dedicated Accessibility Team who review site designs and equipment, and we are introducing updates across the network, including improved cable management systems and revised charger designs to make manoeuvring cables easier. Your feedback is incredibly valuable and will be shared with the relevant team as part of this ongoing work.

First time using Instavolt, ridiculously expensive

First time using Instavolt, never, ever, again, £73.62 for a VW buzz cargo van,feel absolutely ripped off!

It wasn’t even a full charge, gave me an approximately 120miles.

Avoid at all cost.

Update, after 8days Instavolt refunded me £14.31 so I paid in total £59.31 for a charge I could have done at home for around £12

Poor, Very poor

Charged at a measly 40kW on a supposedly 'Ultra Fast' charger. At 89p per kWh, this isn't just poor service—it’s highway robbery. The pricing and performance of these public networks are starting to feel less like a service and more like a cartel.

While the charger you used is capable of ultra-rapid speeds, the actual charging rate is influenced by several factors outside our direct control, including your vehicle’s maximum acceptance rate, battery temperature, state of charge, and how the car manages power as it charges. It’s quite common for speeds to reduce significantly once a battery is above a certain percentage, even on ultra-fast hardware.

We appreciate your feedback regarding our pricing. Our pricing reflects the costs of installing, maintaining, and operating high-power infrastructure, but we’re always reviewing this alongside customer feedback.

Rewards are not good. Off peak price has gone up

Im pretty disappointed with the reward system. The amount of charging/ money you must spend to earn £5 credit is quite bad i think. We’re talking hundreds :(. Also unhappy your off peak charging price has also gone up. I feel your customers are not being looked after as well as they could be.

Great chargers but it’s such a shame

Whilst the chargers around me are always in great condition and always work the price is exceptionally high, cost an extortionate amount of money to charge my car which really is a shame, instead I travel 20 miles to a rival charger and pay just 31p per kWh, come on InstaVolt ya can do better than that!!
