Prioritising Money-Making Over Pet Safety
Identibase's system appears to be allowing the record of a previous, missing pet — which was itself registered with an incorrect address — to interfere with the registration of an entirely new pet whose microchip and correct owner details have been supplied by my vet. I am then being told that I must either pay for a subscription or involve the vet associated with the previous missing pet before the correct address for my new cat can be accepted.
That makes no sense from a pet-safety perspective. The whole purpose of a microchip database is to ensure that, when an animal is scanned, its current keeper can be contacted. My new cat has been correctly microchipped and my vet has provided the correct information. Preventing that information from being properly recorded because of an unrelated historic record risks precisely the situation these databases are supposed to prevent.
I find it particularly concerning that a system intended to protect missing animals appears to be prioritising account/subscription rules over simply ensuring that the correct information is attached to the correct microchip. If there is a legitimate data-protection or security reason for this restriction, Identibase should explain it clearly. Otherwise, it appears to be an unnecessarily complicated and commercially motivated system that places an unreasonable burden on pet owners.
It is deeply upsetting and distressing to be required to revisit the circumstances surrounding my previous cat, who went missing and may now be deceased, in order to resolve an issue with the registration of an entirely different and new cat. I should not have to contact the vet associated with my missing cat, or otherwise reopen what was an extremely upsetting experience, simply to ensure that my new cat's correct address and keeper details are recorded.
The two animals are separate. My new cat has been microchipped by my vet, and my vet has provided the correct information. Requiring me to pursue information or intervention relating to my previous missing cat is not only unnecessary but causes additional distress at an already sensitive issue. A system intended to protect pets should surely make it straightforward to register the correct details for a new animal, rather than forcing an owner to revisit a potentially traumatic situation involving a previous missing pet.

It was really helpful that at the bottom of emails, there is a customer help email. Made it easier to write out all the information I needed help with. Identibase believes strongly in keeping basic pet registration free of charge, meaning there is no cost simply to register your pet and have their microchip details recorded on our database. We believe this is important because there should be no financial barrier to ensuring pets are properly microchipped and registered.
However, our enhanced missing pet and pet protection services are additional services and are not features that we are able to provide free of charge. These services involve significantly more than simply maintaining a microchip record and include additional support and benefits designed to help improve the chances of a pet being safely reunited with their keeper.
Our subscription services can include enhanced missing pet protection, alerts and additional support, alongside other benefits depending on the plan selected. These services require ongoing investment, technology, administration, communications, and support from our teams, which is why they are offered as optional paid services.
It’s therefore important to distinguish between the basic database registration and the additional protection services. You do not need to purchase a subscription simply to have your pet registered with Identibase. The paid services are there for customers who want the additional benefits and reassurance they provide.
We’re proud to offer a free registration service while also giving pet owners the option to purchase enhanced protection if they feel those additional benefits are right for them. Our aim is to provide choice, rather than prevent anyone from registering their pet.

Excellent customer service
I didn't have to wait long for someone to answer the telephone. I was anxious with a problem when I called, but Daisy on the other end of the phone was wonderful - kind, patient and understanding. She couldn't do enough to help and sent me a follow-up email to confirm everything we'd discussed. Excellent service. I would definitely recommend.

I was obviously greatly concerned that…
I was obviously greatly concerned that my kitten had not come home overnight. I was very fortunate to find Luke who was empathetic and extremely patient and helpful.
He walked me through the process and issued a wanted poster for me. The response from identibase was amazing.
