I had my bariatric surgery with Dr. Ibrahim Karataş on January 27, 2026, at Medicana Hospital in Istanbul, and my experience was absolutely fantastic.
Dr. Karataş is a very kind, warm, and humble person who makes you feel comfortable and confident from the very beginning. The entire process was smooth, professional, and very well organised. I felt supported every step of the way.
I have lost 26 kg in just two months and I am still progressing steadily.
The package was also very affordable and included everything from pre-operative tests to accommodation, transfers, and post-operative care. I only needed to arrange my flights.
I highly recommend Dr. Karataş to anyone considering bariatric surgery.

He took the time to explain everything clearly, which really helped ease any anxiety I had going into the procedure. His expertise and calm approach made me feel confident that I was in very safe hands. I also want to give special thanks to Mahmud, his assistant, who was absolutely amazing throughout the entire journey. He was supportive, responsive, and always available to answer questions both during my hospital stay and after discharge. Having that level of care and communication made a huge difference to my overall experience.

For over 6 years I had been hoping to have a gastric sleeve, I felt that it was going to be impossible for me to have in the UK but was very anxious to travel abroad. Before surgery I spent lots of time researching surgeons to find one that I could trust, and be less risky for me. Dr Ibrahim Karataş was exactly what I was looking for, having a wealth of experience.
Dr. Ibrahim Karataş is also the only surgeon in Turkey that uses the tri steplar technology to reduce the risk of leaking which was a big worry for me, this gave lots of confidence in his work.
Throughout the booking process everything was great, I was given ample information. If I was unsure the team were just a message away.
On arrival at the hospital I was very surprised with how clean everything was, it was more like a hotel than hospital. I was given many health tests and checks to ensure I was ready for surgery.
On the day of surgery everything went smoothly, everyone was fantastic and even when there were some language barriers the team went above and beyond to make sure that communication was clear. Surgery went perfectly with no issues.
During my stay the nurses that looked after me were incredibly caring, and were more than happy to offer help where needed.
Mahmud the Drs assistant, was very lovely and had excellent English skills he was always happy to answer any questions. He was very reassuring throughout.
Overall Dr. Ibrahim Karataş team and everyone at Medicana hospital exceeded my expectations of having surgery abroad. I cant wait for my new healthier life!

Dr. Ibrahim Karataş is an excellent doctor and a very positive person. He explained everything very clearly and made me feel calm and confident before the surgery. After the operation, he came to see me and carefully explained step by step how the procedure went, which I really appreciated.

A massive thank you as well to his assistant, Muhammad, who was incredibly helpful and always available whenever I needed support or had questions.

The clinic was very nice, clean, and well organized. Overall, I had a very positive experience and I am grateful for the care I received.

I am currently one week post-op and I am feeling amazing. Yes, there is discomfort but it’s all apart of the journey. Dr Ibrahim was exceptionally amazing, his care and bedside manner made it all worth it. I would also like to commend Dr Assistant Mahmud for his reassurance and diligent commitment into encouraging my pre and post care was dealt with smoothly.

From the moment I arrived at the amazing medicana hospital I felt at ease. Arrived late at night and bloods and ECG done immediately. More thorough checks in the morning followed by meeting Dr Karatas. What a lovely man he is. Makes you feel at ease and has such a gentle nature. Went down for the op and could feel a smooth hand stroking my face asking if was ok, it was Dr K, meant a lot. Op went well and the aftercare was second to none. Also would like to thank Mahmud the translator and Dr's assistant who was so lovely and helpful. Would highly recommend xx

I honestly cannot thank Dr. K and his whole team enough. From start to finish they were absolutely amazing. I was so nervous going in for my surgery, but they made me feel safe, listened to, and genuinely cared for the entire time.

The hospital was spotless, the nurses were so kind (even when I was being a bit dramatic post-op 😂), and every single question I had was answered without making me feel silly. Dr. Karateş was calm, reassuring and professional — you can tell he really knows what he’s doing.

Even after surgery, the aftercare and support have been brilliant. I never felt like I was just another patient. The team were patient, compassionate and checked in properly.

I recently had my gastric sleeve surgery with Dr. Ibrahim Karataş, and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the very first moment I met him in person, he made me feel completely comfortable and reassured. His calm, confident approach instantly eased my nerves.

The surgery itself went smoothly, and Dr. Karataş continued to check up on me right up until I left the hospital, which meant so much. His assistants, Hassan and Canar, were also incredible — so accommodating, attentive, and genuinely caring. They made sure everything went perfectly and that I was well looked after at every step.

I’m now 3 days post-op and already feeling great. I truly believe this is going to be the best journey yet, and I’m grateful to have started it with the best surgeon in Turkey and an amazing team behind him.

Am really so glad and so proud of you for the amazing Job , did the surgery on 4th dec and my journey has been so amazing and I have lost around 32 kgs and God bless you always and I didn’t face that much challenge like other people who have heard they stories .

Mr Ibrahim is an excellent surgeon. Very little pain when he did the procedure and took out the drain. Dr ibrahim not only took care of me, but also ensured my sister was also taken care of, despite having had an operation in a different facility. Dr ibrahims assistant Hassan/Ahmed was also very supportive and went above and beyond to ensure that I had everything I required.

This is a big journey and one I researched for about 4 years. I followed dr karitas right back to the start of his career and never heard a bad word. He is a very calming and lovely man and I can’t thank him enough. He had a team of staff who are all engaging and approachable. The hospital was fantastic and the staff attentive. Currently in the hotel resting. Thanks Dr Karitas and team!

My experience having surgery with op dr ibrahim karatas has been an amazing experience, he is a pure gentleman and cares for his patients, the hospital was clean and the staff prompt, I really couldn’t have asked for more.

This surgery with Dr. Karatas has been the best decision of my life and the more I reflect on the experience, the more grateful I become (I didn't know it was possible!).

Communicating with the medical coordinator meant that from the very beginning any questions I had were answered and my nerves were reassured. Once at the hospital, the staff were wonderful and my translator Hassan was so kind and supportive. I felt like everyone there had my health and my future as their priority, undergoing comprehensive testing to not only prepare for surgery but also reflect on my overall health. Before the surgery, I met Dr. Karatas as well as the anaesthesiologist and a general health doctor who signed off that I was ready for the surgery. They all had so much positivity that any anxiety was washed away by the positive vibes.

Post surgery, Dr. Karatas and the team of nurses have been incredibly supportive and kind - they were on schedule for all medications without having to ask for it (I know this sounds standard but this is rare in my experience with the NHS) and their reassurances meant a great deal to me.

I can not recommend highly enough Dr Karatas and his team. Dr Karatas is a pioneer when it comes to bariatric surgery and his confidence and quality speak for themselves. There is not a single negative word to say about my experience and I will be recommending him to anyone who asks about my surgery and the process of getting a gastric sleeve.

After to a load of research I choose to have my surgery with Dr Ibrahim Karatas and by god was it the best decision I have ever made.
We arrived at Istanbul airport Monday night, followed the guided instruction to our taxi transfers. We arrived quite late in the night at the hospital but that wasn’t a problem. We got seen to quickly and shown to our hospital room. The room was like something I’d never saw before. Absolutely beautiful, spacious and definitely clean.
The night staff were great, there was a language barrier but that wasn’t to be expected. (Thank goodness for google translate.) first thing Tuesday morning I had bloods, ecg, X-ray saw some lovely doctors. I went for my surgery 2pm that afternoon and was back on the ward by 5. And whay can I say they were amazing! Dr Karatas and his whole team went above and beyond to make me feel calm and relaxed.
I was checked on frequently and the care was 100%. Cleaners were back and forth twice a day and my husband was fed 3 times a day. All in all a fantastic service with fantastic care to set me on the path I’ve been longing for.

I had my a surgery with Dr Ibrahim Karatas in May 2025. My experience was fantastic from start to finish! I’m a very anxious lady but I was treated very well by all staff.
