There was more 'anima' than 'japan'

There was more 'anima' than 'japan'. Was hoping for more traditional Japanese related things but there was alot of anima. Those that were there were very good and brought some lovely embroidered garments. Over all good but disappointing

Excellent day out

Excellent day out! We knew what to expect, with this being a mostly retail event with the most wonderful mix of vendors and artists, it was a real joy to browse the stalls, the food and dessert options were so good. Will definitely return next year.

It was our first time going to hyper…

It was our first time going to hyper Japan And we would honestly go again to be honest.
The food is great. There's lots to choose from, although there needs to be more drink vendors there. There was nowhere to buy water apart from the really expensive on-site shop. I am not paying £3.50 for a can of Coke. That don't take cash 🙄
The place is so big with two levels. There are plenty of things to choose from if you want to buy anything. No one's forcing you to buy anything.
I was pretty disappointed that the grab claws machines were doing incredibly small items 🤣 The pricing is exactly the same as if you were going to Comic-Con. Although I have to say the studio Ghibli store was excessively overrated and over expensive. £15 for a keyring 😳
But overall it was a fantastic experience. I really enjoyed it. The food was amazing. Not enough drink venues. That's the whole experience of going. We both enjoyed it.
The negative part about it. No where to sit 🤷🏼‍♀️
I have a disability and my walking isn't great but I pushed myself and there is no seating out of the main hall. You have to literally go outside to sit down or plant yourself on the floor. I can't do that 🤷🏼‍♀️ but I found a couple of pallets to sit on.
That's not really good for anyone who has a disability or anybody that doesn't have a disability. More drink vendors and more seating.
There were plenty of people selling the original artwork. Original pottery And original Japanese clothing. The cars were amazingly decorated. I just think there's a lot to see. I enjoyed it and I know that this is early days for hyper Japan and I'm only hoping that it does improve over time.
I wouldn't take it out on the security staff. They have a job to do and they have to be strict about it.
Loved it 🫶🏼

I would not recommend

Ticket price was £40.
Overall opinion- it was not worth it,
I would not go again, you're simply paying to enter a market to pay for more things. I feel the organisers just doing it for themselves to make money. There is no goody bags, no experience, no activities, no goody bag, nothing! it's like you're paying to enter a venue to pay for more things. I did not see the purpose or value for money. The only things my kids got was a balloon. Everything was just overpriced. There was really nothing to do but to spend money on items that are poor value and mostly cheaply made. The food was terrible, and over priced.

It was honestly like Waitrose charging you entrance fees to shop. It was not an experience. I would not recommend. My local Asian shop was more hyper Japan.

They should have called it ShopJapan.

Also it's two floors, no signs for lifts- the two lifts were not working and you had to use service lifts. Which is fine, but poor signage and was not clear, and we had to keep walking around and around to find a lift.

Expected a Celebration of Japan, Got a Shopping Event

I was quite disappointed with Hyper Japan. While the stage performances were enjoyable and probably the highlight of the event, I didn’t feel it offered good value for the ticket price.

I was also expecting much more about Japanese culture, traditions and travel, as I’m hoping to visit Japan next year. Instead, the event was dominated by stalls selling expensive merchandise, anime collectibles and novelty items, much of which felt repetitive. If you’re not planning to shop, there isn’t a huge amount to do.

The food options looked good, but the queues were extremely long throughout the day, making it difficult to enjoy without spending a lot of time waiting.

Overall, unless you’re a dedicated anime fan or intend to spend a lot on merchandise, I don’t think it’s worth the admission price. The stage shows were entertaining, but they weren’t enough to make up for the lack of cultural experiences and the expensive shopping. Unfortunately, I won’t be rushing back.

So disappointing

So disappointing. A good friend of mine experienced pre covid Hyper Japan and raved about how good it was. No queue to get in, tons of food vendors giving out free samples, a retro gaming area and a bonsai tree/japanese garden exhibit to name a few things they experienced. I went with that same friend this year and we had to queue for an hour, there was hardly any food stalls. And practically nothing else but shops. My friend remarked on how different it was from her previous trip and how much worse it had become.

Like most events like this it’s popularity has turned it into a cash grab for the organisers, they oversell tickets and don’t put measures in place to handle so many people, they overcharge for vending space and price out interesting exhibitors and cause the rest to jack up their prices. It’s not worth it.

Don’t bother

As other people on TripAdvisor are saying, this place is definitely not worth going to for the price. We weren’t let in on time and were left in the heat in a very dis-organised queue, with people pushing their way into the venue. The staff outside were very rude about disabilities and wouldn’t let me in the priority queue, just to find out later that I could’ve gone there. Fast track and disabled were in the same overcrowded queue and also a mix of pre-paid and unpaid. They need separate queues and a better system in place for getting disabled people in quicker because standing around for so long put me in a lot of pain before even beginning. The event was pretty disappointing for the price and was pretty much a big market of anime stalls, not much to do with Japan as a whole. The markets and food were ridiculously overpriced, with nowhere near enough seating for the amount of people attending, a lot of people had to sit on the floor. They obviously don’t care about disabilities and I won’t be bothering coming back.
