Very professional salesmen and fitters. We had new windows in the whole of the house along with bifold doors which are fabulous! HBD took care of everything including arranging removal of a wall and installation of an RSJ which was massive! We are having an orangery built later in the year and will definitely get HBD to add more bifolds and a roof light. Can’t wait.
Great installation
Have to update this review as we gave HBD a second chance and they done a fantastic job on our bi-folds and gable. Great price, amazing finishing touches and once again a good installation team. Still waiting on some minor touch ups on the original Order but they have to wait for our builders to finish.
Sales and installation was good, but there were damaged frames and missing gaskets which we were promised would be sorted quickly. After several phone calls the Gaskets we’re fitted within a month. However, the fitter scratched the frames. We’re still waiting 3 months later for the original paint defects and damage to be dealt with and I have called them over 30 times, each time to be fobbed off with the blame being put on the painter who did turn up once but with the wrong colour paint. My contract is with HBD not the self employed sprayer who I am getting different stories from.
We are having a huge amount of work done which will need bi-fold doors and windows but we will not be buying from this company again.

When we did our extension in 2016, we decided on Origin french doors because of their advertised high-end quality and 20-year warranty. Ordering Origin has turned out to be a nightmare, a waste of money, and years of regret. Please, avoid them if you can and avoid the heartache that we have had, wasting £7,000 on doors which we could have got more robust from a cheap double-glazing company.
They recommended Herts Bifold as a local installer. Their installers are also awful. We have had nothing but poor service and rudeness from them. They try to get out of everything, if they can.
Firstly, they didn't measure up correctly (luckily we spotted this), then they accidentally transposed the doors on the final blueprints- they were all opening a certain way on all the blueprints except the final version, which they were the opposite way around (which we did not spot), which they then refused to rectify the mistake until we made huge complaints and wrote several letters.
After 3 years, the door handle on one set of doors broke. After another round of angry emails, where Origin refused to take responsibility and Herts Bifold refused to do anything without being pushed, the door handles were replaced. We discovered that the problem was the flimsy one-coil return spring in the handles. You can't even get one-coil springs in this country; they are usually 2.5-5 turns. of course one thin wire is going to break easily through normal wear and tear.
A year later (now, 2020), the door handles broke again. This time we wrote to Origin to say that the fault was with the poor quality door handles and that we would like a replacement of all the handles with something more robust. They told us to speak to Herts Bifold again.
Herts Bifold asked us to fill in a whole load of paperwork and provide photos, even though I had forwarded them our emails from 2019 with all the paperwork attached.
They then refused to replace the door handle as it "wasn't broken"; until I then complained again to say that the door WAS broken because it wasn't latching because of the issue.
They've now told us they've ordered one replacement handle from Origin, even though two are broken (on the inside and on the outside). This won't be fixed for a month.
I have written to Origin, complaining that the handles are not fit for purpose under the Trades Description Act. They have responded to say that they have no problems with them and will replace them if broken.
Herts Bi-fold doors aka GN windows :After much to-ing and fro-ing between…
After much to-ing and fro-ing between me and the company ie me asking questions about the detail of the product and assessing what ought to be provided, I placed an order for
1] Bi-Fold Doors
2] Double glazed roof lantern with 2 opening sashes
Bi-fold doors were incorrectly measured /or ordered and when they arrived on sire they would not fit . The doors costing about £3.8K had to be re-made. They returned and fitted replacements but I incurred expense by having my builder to attend a second time to attend.
The roof lantern was installed around March 2018.
Some glass panels were the wrong way round and much of the glazing spongy tape was ill-fitting ths making the lantern not wind and watertight . A lot of bashing with mallets was needed to get the lantern to fit. In the process several aluminium sections were damaged.
One of the opening sashes was not watertight either.
Director “Nigel “ came out to assess and made copious notes.
Original fitter arrived to fit the replacement glazing panels. and the plastic facings which had come off ( due to the unusually hot summer according to Nigel and not due to using the wrong sort of Silicone which I pointed out to the fitter when he was doing the job.)
I refused access on the ground that his work was not competent in the first place so asked Herts Bi-Fold doors to send a competent fitter which they did.
He used the same Silicone and the facing came off again.
Then the lantern leaked.
Fitter came back and copious amounts of silicone and “flashband” applied.
Opening Sash leaked.
I then wrote a 14 day letter stating that in my view the job was so bad that they needed to start again.
The 14 day letter was sent in October 2018 and so in the intervening period I was unable to complete the build because the room was not watertight.
HBD offered at last minute to replace sashes with a new design.
Reluctantly I agreed since my option was to then litigate and appoint others.
From the October 2018 14 day letter it took them until 13th March 2019 to fit new sashes which are now watertight but they incurred me in some electrical work because cabling had to be replaced and it was now going to be visible. It also meant that I was unable to progress work on the interior due to the water ingress caused by the faulty opening sash on their Atlas lantern.
When they sent their bill I replied with a contra -charge invoice for my time sorting out their incompetence.
They threatened CCJ action and I decided that I would contest the action in court despite HBD`s totally unreasonable clauses in their terms and conditions shown on their web page.
No CCJ summons has yet arrived from them but instead they have said that my guarantee is null and void since I would not permit the completion of the contract by paying the final bill of £675 approx ..
So the way things stand , I have paid for a guaranteed piece of work less my invoice for around
£675 and they will not honour the deal. They have not yet issued a summons.
They have obviously backed off the ccj , probably because there is a tome of evidence, dated photos, emails etc.
I was rather tolerant of them until October 2018. That was the straw that broke the camel`s back for me since they did not make a good effort to make good their flawed workmanship.
What is really infuriating is that I could have bought this kit elsewhere, had my builder fit it
and saved a lot of money.
However since it was a fairly specialised glazing item I decided to spend the extra and get it all from one source , thus avoiding problems with supply of faulty or incorrect parts. Problems and supply of faulty , incorrect parts was in fact what they actually sold me!
They had the nerve to say that I was the only person in thousands to have a problem( not what their fitter told me!)
I think I have had a raw deal .
Come on HBD take me to court if you dare !
