Mahalo for reaching out and we're sorry, but we don't think that you're aware that the only way you are guaranteed entry is either hoping you get tickets via the lottery, several days before you plan to go, or going with one of just a few specially permitted tour companies, like ours, which have a special access park website for purchasing early tickets and van entry to base. For instance, if you arrive late driving yourself, you won't be able to visit the memorial. Even if you were lucky enough to get tickets, if you're late or cannot find parking and end up being late, due to the parking lots all being sold out, or the park tickets may be sold out as well, both of which happens regularly, you will not be permitted to enter. This is the most popular visitor experience in Hawai'i. It sells out regularly.
We secure tickets several days before pick up from your accommodations and take you from your hotel to the Pearl Harbor base and then, on your way back we include a Honolulu City Driving Tour. Our total tour time is approximately 5 hours and allows for the pick up, viewing of the film, the boat ride our to the Arizona memorial, time at the memorial, and also driving by several other sites throughout Honolulu and drop off at your accommodations. Our price point is incredibly affordable.
You can drive yourself but there is extremely limited, $7 paid parking at the base, and it is first come, first served. When the secured, official $7 lot is sold out, it is up to you to find unofficial, less monitored parking nearby, which isn't as close, or as safe. Because of this, not finding parking is a common cause of visitors missing their tour, so it's a risk you would have to take. And then, there is your expert guide's knowledge of Honolulu, Hawaiian culture, a good sense of humor, "aloha" and the narrated tour of the historic sites that are of value as well.
Of course, doing it yourself is an option and many tourists do that, but it's downright stressful and it's hard to navigate in Honolulu due to the constant construction as well. We offer door-to-door pick up and an expert to narrate on tour. The apps are not experts and cannot replace a real human. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out, a hui hou!

GREAT EXPERIENCE
Hawaii Tours made everything so easy and convenient to book! They had great communication when I had questions and directed me to the right person who could answer my questions. Also appreciated the updates and reminders I received via text. It was very helpful to keep me on schedule as I had several excursions booked over a 2 week period. We had an amazing tour
We had an amazing tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and a pleasure to be around. The group was small, so attention to detail was great. We did an air and land tour. The land tour was great, but it would have been awesome to be able to actually see the volcano. It was very VOGgy and the shift in wind caused fumes to blow toward the viewing areas and we didn’t get to stop at a couple lookouts. That was disappointing. However, the lava tube was cool. Rainbow falls was pretty as well as the black sand beach. Our guide provided so much history! We enjoyed it. The air tour was canceled and the National Park actually ended up closing. We were offered either a refund for the helicopter tour or an alternative flight. We took the alternative flight and it was the Best thing ever! To see hundreds of waterfalls and the cliffs, farms, and valleys was astounding. The helicopter pilot was very informative and the ride was around an hour.

Aloha Alana! Mahalo for the 4 stars. We're glad that you had such an awesome time. Was there anything we could have done better to earn 5 stars? We pride ourselves on giving the best tours in all of Hawai'i. Also, our guides are all experts. If there was any way to make the stops, they would have.
When an eruption is causing large amounts of Pele's Hair to float into the air near the volcano, the National Park will put out advisories telling guides to make sure their guests avoid these areas. Pele's Hair is composed of microscopic glass shards that are dangerous to your eyes, skin and even potentially your lungs.
Your guide avoided these areas because it wasn't healthy for you to be there, nor was it legal for the van to be in the area if the park gave a warning and then actually closed due to the vog. Of course this is out of our hands. We are completely at the mercy of the National Park and when they put out an advisory, you would need to have special permission as well as hazmat level personal protection to visit these areas (KN95 mask, body coverage and goggles). Since we're not vulcanologists they won't give us special permission to be close to an eruption that large.
However, we're over the moon that you loved the helicopter ride and we'd consider it an honor to help you create your next 5 star Hawaiian adventure holiday. Just be sure to book ASAP to lock in the best price ~ a hui hou!

Great history and scenery

Diamond Head Shuttle/Hike
The shuttle bus was on time and the driver provided some good info on the way to Diamond Head for the hike. It was so easy and no permits, etc needed. They took care of everything. A great way to see Diamond Head.
