Terrible Leather Sofa
We bought a leather G Plan Ellis recliner sofa and chair from Housing Units in August 2024 at a cost of over £5000. In September 2025 I noticed that on the sofa seat cushion, a coating of some kind was peeling off, this made the whole cushion look patchy as the leather under the coating appeared lighter. We contacted Housing Units who informed us that the sofa was out of warranty and put me in contact with G Plan. They sent out an engineer who advised us after asking a multitude of questions that it was caused by moisturiser applied on the legs and then lying on the cushion that caused the damage. That lead me to the conclusion that a G plan leather sofa must only be sat on fully clothed and you cannot lie down on it with any exposed moisturised skin. We had to pay G Plan to replace the damaged cushion, however the next day I noticed the same issue on a tiny part of the replaced cushion. Because it was tiny and barely noticeable I left it. August 2026 and the same issue has now appeared on the same part of the sofa at the arm. The protective coating that is supposed to protect the leather apparently cannot hold up against the corrosive affects of skin!! It is without a doubt the worst sofa I have ever bought and I will never buy leather again because of this. When they sold us this sofa they took great lengths demonstrating to us that the grade of the leather was so tough it was pretty much scratch resistant, just don’t touch it with your skin though!!

Hi Alex, we are sorry that you have encountered concerns with the hide on your Ellis furniture.
To provide some context, we have sold nearly 2,000 pieces of furniture in this particular leather, with a complaint rate of around 0.66%. While any complaint is important to us, this is not an issue experienced by the vast majority of customers.
We completely understand that advice about lotions or other chemicals coming into contact with leather may sound surprising. The reality is that all upholstery leathers can be affected by certain substances, including some body lotions, cosmetics, hair products, cleaning products, and other chemicals that may transfer onto the surface over time.
We would never expect customers to avoid using their furniture normally. Our care guidance is simply intended to help protect the leather from substances that can cause damage over time.
The hide remains a popular choice in our current range and an upholsterer would be able to replace the affected panels for you. Your retailer would be able to advise of a company you could contact for assistance with this.

Very pleased with our leather G plan suite
Ordering our suite was straightforward, from Furniture Village with many variations in size, material and colours. Our leather G plan suite was delivered within expected timeline by very efficient delivery men. We are extremely pleased as very comfortable offering good support and is well made, all as we anticipated when ordering.

Not Premium Quality
Not the premium sofas I assumed I was purchasing.Both sofas showing wear, all be it small on the leather after 6 months.One cushion showing dipping and being replaced 3 wear marks to be painted.Not the quality expected from well known company.

Fixing my creaking joints.
My one year old 3 seat settee developed a creak when sat on. I reported this to my retailer who said they would pass it to G Plan. Less than 24 hours later I was contacted by G Plan and an appointment was made for a technician to call 2 days later. The technician (Steve Perberdy)quickly discovered the problem and not only fixed it but took steps to ensure it does not reoccur.
Excellent service, fast and efficient.

Good customer experience
We had a slider break on our G plan settee. We wrote to G plan and Tara replied explaining where to find the manufacturer labels etc. This was actioned quicker than we were expecting, 5 sliders turned up, no charge. Fantastic service.

Bought a leather recliner for £2000…
Bought a leather recliner for £2000 three years ago, noticed it lost all it support about six months ago.
I live alone and thought it was unacceptable so contacted the supplier (Glasswells) and was told too late buy a new one!! It’s like sitting on a marshmallow, never recommend or buy G Plan it’s dreadful.

Whilst foam will soften with usage and this aspect is now outside of the warranty that was offered, a new seat could be supplied and fitted by a technician. Your retailer would be able to arrange this, through ourselves however, there is likely to be charge. Your retailer would be able to advise in advance of the anticipated costs and and options available to ensure you are able to enjoy your chair for years to come.

The sofa I ordered was such great quality and very stylish. The staff who dealt with my order were very professional and especially helpful at dealing with a minor issue I had. The delivery team was polite and respectful and worked hard to ensure a safe delivery up a steep driveway and stairs.

Comfort and style
Gplan are more expensive but I purchased for comfort as well as style and it is well worth the premium price. I am very happy with my purchase. One of the sofa's did arrive with the wrong feet but this was identified by the guys that delivered it and was soon corrected. I did have to wait a couple of weeks but this does not change how pleased I am with my new sofas.

Service repair - all good.
A leg broke on our new suite as it was being loaded for delivery (these things happen). A temporary replacement was fitted by the retailer so delivery could go ahead on schedule (which was appreciated).
A service technician came to our home a couple of weeks later and swapped the leg for the correct one. Excellent communication, friendly technician - all sorted quickly & efficiently.

chair mechanical part underneath has got to be replaced , both chairs noisy when engaging, loud banging noise, engineer says normal , not impressed wish I hadn’t paid all that money for them,
Rubbish mechanism on one chair the mechanism only half connects
On one chair it has a felt pad
On the other chair it has a plastic pad
Why are they not the same this should be added to the first review I did expect better from G plan

We would also advise that we are one of the very few UK upholstery manufacturers who test our products to full contract level standards, rather than solely to general domestic standards. This more rigorous testing regime is specifically designed to give us confidence in the durability and suitability of the materials and components we specify from our global suppliers.
We would assure you that, should you remain unhappy, you are absolutely entitled to request a second opinion. As your contract of sale is with the retailer, a further review would need to be arranged directly through them and we would, of course, cooperate fully with that process.
