The Francis Frith Collection is a unique, nationally important and world renowned photo archive that has been delighting the public since 1860. Over the last 44 years, millions of customers have purchased our products.

Family-owned and Run
Although we have several separate companies developing the Frith archive, we are and have been since 1860, a family-run business. We are small enough to care about every one of our customers, but experienced and professional enough run a very sophisticated business. Our workshops have been located in a Wiltshire village since 1998, and our prints and books are still produced there.

It saddens me to think that people make money from our heritage like this, these photos should be available for all to see use and enjoy, without paying silly prices. it is why this country has no pride anymore. we just cant afford too!. COPYRIGHTING OUR HERITAGE IS THEFT. HANDS OFF OUR PICTURES! SIR FRITH WOULD TURN IN HIS GRAVE!

I was sad to see your comment but suggest that you are overlooking some factors which should have a bearing on your views. We have owned this archive for the last 48 years. In that time we have taken it from a massive pile of dusty negatives and prints that were deteriorating rapidly, to a system in which they are properly filed, conserved, catalogued and made available to everyone. Since 1999 we have scanned the entire archive at a high resolution specifically to make it available to everyone via our website - the first time since Frith founded the business in 1860 that every photo has been available to browse, without charge. To reach this point we have invested several millions of pounds, mostly but not entirely funded from sale of prints, books and other products that make the photographs available to an even wider audience. The “silly prices” you refer to are what pays our staff and the overheads of storing and maintaining the archive. Failing this it would end up in a museum where those costs, and more, would be paid from taxes paid by us all. As for the copyright, every image on our site will have been subject to considerable skill and judgment provided by our staff before a print is sold and it is this work that satisfies the legal requirement for copyright, whilst also protecting our investment and ability to continue making the Collection available to all.
An excellent gift.
The website was excellent and I found what I wanted quite easily. My order arrived promptly and was well packaged. It was a gift for my daughter and husband on moving into their new home. It is so interesting to be aware of the history of the area; and a good talking point with friends and visitors. They love it! Thankyou.

Excellent customer service
The order was processed very quickly. The packaging was excellent. Unfortunately the photograph that I ordered was incorrectly numbered so received the wrong item I discovered when I rang the company . Having discovered the mistake their end and ordering the correct one my item arrived very guickly .So very good service .

Superb customer service and unique photo gifts
With the help of Francis Frith, I was able to find the most charming and atmospheric 1920s photo of the street where my son and his family have recently bought a Grade 2 listed cottage. The upper storey of the cottage can be clearly seen above a brick wall that is still there, with the listed pub a little way down the road, and the cathedral in the distance. They were absolutely amazed and thrilled with this special gift, which is already a treasured heirloom. The people at Francis Frith were wonderful, patiently answering my many questions and taking the greatest care to make sure everything would be exactly right. The photo arrived very quickly after I ordered it, packaged beautifully. My enormous thanks to them!
