Happy with the services - three year member

I have been a member of Motley Fool Canada for three years and while I haven't used the information to its fullest I have appreciated the insight into market trends, recommendations and updates. There are times when the emails seem abundant, once the marketting emails are removed the content is manageable.

Some good recommendations

Some good recommendations, some not so good. This is a service for people with a 3 to 5 year horizon to make money. I would rate them higher but for the constant upselling for "new" investment advice. It's like they have a pie that they want to slice thinner and sell it to you for more money.

Not a great service for the money

Not a great service for the money. Most emails I receive are to purchase other services and really the stock advice has not been that great. Even before the crash of 22 most of the stock suggestions have been duds. Another huge issue is how well they've hidden the ability to cancel. Still searching. Luckily my credit card has now expired.

An excellent guide

I have been following MF since 2016. They have given solid investment advice and by following their recommendations my stock portfolio has seen the best growth rate of all my investment instruments.

Following the advice of the Motley Fool…

Following the advice of the Motley Fool will make you money on the stock market, however, don't be blind to the fees you are paying for their service and stick to only one or two of their offered services. Spreading yourself too thinly is not a winning strategy on the stock market.

Smarter, Happier and Richer.

It's a shame that many of those leaving bad reviews are blaming this company for their own lack of patience and understanding. Market pull-backs are part of the process and cannot be timed accurately with any consistency. If you only started to invest in the stock market within the last year or two, your portfolio is probably down. However, the market will recover and if the companies in which you invested are good companies (financially), your portfolio will also recover and then flourish. That requires patience. If you cannot find the patience to wait for the recovery, then YOU are your own worst enemy (to your portfolio). That’s how the stock market works, and it has worked like that for over 100 years. You need to know and understand that, and to trust in that process. My portfolio is down compared to last year, but is way up compared to 3 or 4 years ago, and will probably be up from here within a year or two. If you are new to investing, be patient; you will eventually get there. Investing in the stock market is not a short-term process; it takes time. Patience is key!
The Motley Fool is a fantastic tool for those who want to invest in the stock market. It has an education side that will teach you the basics of investing, what to look for, what to avoid, and tips on how to cope with temporary setbacks. Yes, there can be temporary setback; that's part of the process, remember? The research side provides you with recommended companies and explains what the company does, what opportunities lay ahead of it, red flags as well as green ones, and how we could all profit from it. There is always risk, and unexpected events do occur (covid, war, natural disasters) that could affect your investment in the short term, but if there wasn’t any risk, there wouldn’t be any reward. You need to know the risk and the Fool can help you understand that, too.
If you are looking to double your money overnight, try a casino because you won't find it anywhere in the stock market with any consistency. But if you are looking to build wealth over a longer period, I can think of no better place for guidance than with the Motley Fool.
And for those who complained about the advertising emails, are you new in town? The flood of advertising is everywhere, not just from the Fool. Simply unsubscribe to the emails, it isn’t difficult.
Oh, and did I mention that investing takes patience?

I unsubscribed about a month after subscribing as the information available was next to useless all the while being bombarded to purchase their premium services.
Eleven months later they debit me for an annual renewal fee. When I become aware of this a few days after the debit, I advise them in writing at the suggested support address that I do not wish to renew and wish to be refunded. Four business days later, no reply, no refund. Now I have to dispute this with my credit card!

How to Cancel Membership?

In June 2021 emailed MF to have my membership not renewed as of Dec 21, 2021. Received an email dated Nov 2021 stating my membership would be renewed as of Dec 19, 2021.

I emailed membersupport and billingquestions.

What do I have to do to get my membership cancelled?

Thank you, Anna LeBlanc

Don't waste your money!!!

The one-year subscription I purchased from The Motley Fool Canada has been one of the worst things I've spent money on in the last twelve months.
The stock recommendations I've received from them over the last eight months or so have been few and far between, as well as weak.
Anyone signing up for their service should be prepared to be spammed relentlessly by them looking to sell additional services. I have been receiving up to five emails daily, advising that time is running out on their latest offer. I also started receiving a record number of spam emails from third parties and unrelated parties immediately after buying their subscription. Immediately after.
I am looking forward to my subscription expiring so that I can block their b.s. emails. Hopefully, my crappy experience with this company will help inform others.

Is there a rating less than 1 star???!

Is there a rating less than 1 star?

I took a membership on Stock Advisor for one year. I can't describe how disappointing it was. There's absolutely nothing useful there. The content is often outdated and simultaneous reviews by Motley writers contradict each other on a regular basis.

Get ready to be heavily spammed for more of your money upon joining. There will be a barrage of messages and emails telling you about "once in a lifetime" opportunities....blah blah blah.

Reviews follow the same tired scripted format over and over. You get a loose review followed by the usual blurb about Ian's "winning formula".

Take my word for it and save your money for a membership with a "real" stock review site with in depth stock analysis.

Terrible experience

Terrible experience for me. Be very cautious before you sign up for an account. First off, what you are paying for are numerous recommendations into a very risky market which they are under no obligation to make with any sense or strategy. You may have success or, you may not - but your outcome doesn’t hinge on any advice they can give but more from your own research and diligence - which can be done without paying anyone.

I believe services that charge and offer advice like this should be scrutinized because it would be very easy to offer a similar service and randomly select tickers only to find that some will win and some will fail - with the exact same outcome.

The best way to get a grasp on investing is find a credible resource and learn the 101s. Even if you are a seasoned investor, by now, surly you have realized that no one on planet earth has a more clearer crystal ball than you.

So, where does this leave me? I don’t know how to even log in because I can’t navigate their website. I get bombarded by multiple emails a day asking for more money for better recommendations and I have a credit card on a continual subscription that I can’t remove from their system. It’s gotten to the point where I might have to get a new credit card.

So, all in all, I think their business is legit - you get stock recommendations in exchange for your funds. But keep in mind, you can literally get recommendations from anywhere, anyone and from anything - all for free. But do yourself a favour, do your homework and if you are just a little bit smart, you will be MUCH better off in the long run - guaranteed.

Incessant nagging and predatory practices

These people will send you incessant nagging emails everyday multiple times a day trying to get you to sign up for more "services". They make it difficult to cancel or remove your credit card details, you cannot service your own account, you have to email them and if you don't treat them like royalty they simply tell you to adjust your language and send another email. Predatory behavior, they will charge your card again after one year without asking if you want the service even if your payment method fails they just keep trying to take the payment out over and over until your card works again.

I subscribed for the basic level

I subscribed for the basic level, looking to get some articles and research recomendations from the fools - GARBAGE! all of it! i'm not a newbie at investing and just wanted some articles. all i get is offers to pay more and more money for stocks i'm not interested in owning!!! EVERY single email yaks about shopify up 1400% and yadda yadda up 1400% or eve 15000% yak yak yak - terrible service - i often wonder how much money from foolish subscribers they invest into the market? hey fools at motley fool i to own shopify and it's up a lot - like 1200% - i would not recommend this stock to any investor at its current price - clearly you are a scam!!! hey guess what i've bought and sold amazon numerous times and tesla numerous times i still hold a few shares from way back when they are up a bazillion percent - still would not recomend them to investors at current price levels - you fools are all a joke!

I don't need help navigating my subscription! I need spam blockers to stop the useless emails I get from stock advisor canaduh! Since you needed to respond to this review and all others here is a good indication for other readers of this review to understand that the subscription isn't worth Jack s**t! In the few weeks after writing this review I've received countless emails telling me it's the last chance to join the ai investing portfolio which started at like 1500$ and is now down to 800$ to join, same with hidden gems starting out at 1900$ to join that one and it's now 900$ and the lost goes on and on and every one of them is "last chance" to join blah blah blah

Folks I just wanted some good articles hoping to trim down the research time for my investing but I can honestly tell you that any subscription to this services is basically paying them to spam the frick out of your email.... I'm an investor and like many investors I've made 600% 1000% etc - I have also lost 100% of a trade like any investor - from their constant sales pitches to their track record in all I'm a better investor than any of these fools and you can be to and you probably are already better than they are save you subscription fees and keep you inbox clean this service is terrible. And I even wanted to like it and use it I get better info from Google and so can you!

So far Impressed with the Fool's

Motley Fool's provides it's clients with information and advice for a fee. Typically paid for advice is better than free advice. I have started with MF for 9 months after the big crash. I had started with their Stock Advisor Series, and followed their advise with diversification, and have been very pleased with the results. I have also fallen prey to some of their click bait for fee additional services such as Hidden Gems and also feel the advice as been very good and I have done very well on many of their recommendations. Note for every dollar you invest with your financial brokers you pay at least 1% for them to passively manage your money. So if your holdings are $500,000, you pay your guy $5000 annually to see returns fall short of the bench mark. Not to mention Mutual funds that have high MER's near 2.5% that keep your profits reduced. If you put some of that money toward some real advice and follow the directions, you may be pleasantly surprised. So far I am impressed with the Fool's. Thank you. Here is to 2021!!!

More interested In upselling Services than servicing existing Subscribers

I am a subscriber to Motley Fool Canada. I cannot give it more than 3 stars for the following reasons>

As many others have stated in reviews, you have to run a gauntlet even to sign on. The when you get to the main page of the Motley Fool website you have to enter into a marketing maze where another Motley Fool subscription is offered to you. To move off you have to hit the enter your email and accept receipt of emails and offers which you didn't want in the first place.

They have lost their way. Their smarmy tactics smell more like MLM sites, and like these sites, they seem more dedicated to bringing in new people and upselling to existing subscribers than it is SERVICING THEIR EXISTING CLIENTS. You also get bombarded by ads to your emails highlighting exciting new opportunities available in their other services if you subscribe. Luckily for you that other service is available to you at a discounted rate, but only to midnight tonight. And you don't want to unsubscribe for emails and promotions because then you miss what might be legitimate announcements from the Motley Fool for a podcast or a new set of recommendations relating to your subscription.

Motley Fool shame on you. Treat your existing subscribers better. We are your customers. And Iain Butler, if you are really in charge, please clean up these smarmy MLM practices.

I am signing my name because Motely Fool already has my email address and can find out who I am.

Extra fees drive me crazy!

I had been looking at Motley Fool for some time, trying to decide whether or not I should purchase a membership. I have RRSPs with an investor but i was looking at doing some of my own investing with my TFSAs. I had read some reviews from people who liked their advice and others who were upset because the picks they had recommended did not pan out. I was ok with that because no one can predict the future and there is always going to be a risk. So eventually I purchased a membership and was looking forward to accessing all of their knowledge and advice.
What I found and the reason I am writing this review (something I NEVER do) is that almost every time I rec'd an email of something I was very interested in, if i wanted that info I had to pay more money! Recently with all the markets down, I have looked at this as an opportunity to buy some under valued stocks, so when I rec'd an email about an upcoming on-line briefing (April &/2020 I think) I was very excited, it was exactly what I was looking for! Well....... after I watched the video and scrolled down the screen...........if I want access to this info........you guessed it, it could be mine as a member for the extra special fee of about $900.00. That was it for me!
I have been in sales/management for over 25 years and what always bothered me was the ones who would bait you in the door for what seemed to be a pretty fair deal but would then begin to hammer you with all the extras! This is main reason that some sales people gave themselves such bad reps and have consumers on edge when making a purchase. There might be some really good advice here and maybe I am missing out on an opportunity but out of principle I will not pay any extra fees!
I guess I am out!

Dave Summers.
