Unprofessional And Rude Employees


I am extremely disappointed with the level of customer service at this Family Dollar location.( Mastic NY).I typically shop at a different store, but this one happens to be on my route home from work. After this experience, I will be reconsidering returning.
After a long workday, I stopped in to pick up a few items. Almost immediately, I noticed an employee who had been stocking shelves began following me through multiple aisles. This behavior was uncomfortable and unnecessary. No customer should feel as though they are being monitored or profiled while simply shopping.
When I proceeded to the register, the cashier did not greet me, despite acknowledging and greeting other customers ahead of me. I remained polite and continued with my transaction. Due to using digital payment through my phone, I experienced a connection issue and requested that the transaction be voided so I would not hold up the line. The cashier responded abruptly and unprofessionally, stating she could not do so.
As I attempted to resolve the issue, another customer kindly offered to pay, which I initially declined, as I had the funds but was experiencing a technical issue. Despite this, the situation escalated unnecessarily when the cashier loudly announced, “I refunded your EBT card,” in front of other customers.(I used Google Pay)
This was completely inappropriate, inaccurate, and a violation of basic customer privacy and respect. Not only was the statement incorrect, but no customer’s method of payment should ever be announced publicly. A simple, professional statement such as “your transaction has been refunded” would have been sufficient.
This experience was not only frustrating but deeply concerning. It reflects a lack of professionalism, poor customer service training, and behavior that can easily be perceived as discriminatory. Customers deserve to be treated with dignity and respect at all times.
I strongly encourage management to address these issues immediately. Proper training in customer service, communication, and respect for customer privacy is not optional—it is essential.

5 STAR FAMILY DOLLARave been a regular customer at the…

I have been a regular customer at the Family Dollar at 3315 Rivers Ave in North Charleston SC for the past few weeks. The assistant manager.....a Caucasian young lady.....has checked me out numerous times. She always has a smile on her face and is always very helpful. She goes above and beyond her duties in all she does. Family Dollar should be thankful for having someone like her. Also there is a younger gentleman that is sometimes there and on two occasions have directed me to the aisle where something I was looking for was located....that tells me he takes his job seriously. Again Family Dollar should feel fortunate to have these people. Family Dollar should take notice and recognize these individuals. My experience at this Family Dollar is always great because of them. I dont know what happens to these reviews but I hope these two individuals are make aware of the fact that customers appreciate them and come back because of them. This store gets 5 stars because of their efforts!!!

Family Dollar website is by far the worst ever

Family Dollar website is by far the worst one I have used. It is like a third grader put it together. My email address was changed over three years ago. I can't update it. I also can't open a new account with my current information because my phone number belongs to my "old" email address. I want to contact someone at Family Dollar, but thats impossible if its not one of their stupid pre-entered questions. No wonder Dollar General is cleaning their plow. I actually prefer the Family Dollar store, but I'm giving up. This company is being run by people with IQs of 80 who are trying to destroy the company. Thank God I don't own stock. I'm done. I quit trying.

⭐️ One Star: Unacceptable Manager Conduct During Return

I am writing this review regarding my very poor experience at the Family Dollar store located at 200 E Pleasant Valley Blvd, Altoona, PA.
I went in to return a recently purchased defective can opener (poor product quality) with the receipt. The store manager on duty, Kelly, was immediately confrontational and unprofessional.
She refused to honor the return, claiming the item was "10 years old" and openly accused us of not purchasing it at that store, essentially calling my father a liar. She refused to help despite the valid proof of purchase.
The situation was only resolved when a second family member intervened and firmly insisted she follow the store's own return policy. Manager Kelly then completed the transaction silently.
A manager should not make a simple return an insulting personal confrontation. I hope Family Dollar addresses this manager's behavior and customer service skills immediately.

Miserable employees who hate their job

When I went to the register to purchase my items the Kit Kat rung up as $1.75 although the price labeled it as $1.25. I informed the cashier the discrepancy and she went to verify it for herself and she saw what I said was true. She told me they’re constantly changing pricing and that it was missed, in a rude frustrating way. I told her she has to honor the price that it’s listed for and she told me she doesn’t have to and that she can’t, maybe the manager can. The manager came and told me she doesn’t have to honor the price listed but this one time she will as a favor. I informed her that in the state of Virginia a business is legally obligated to honor a price displayed on a consumer item if the price is posted at or near the item or if the price was advertised and the business does not have a clearly stated quantity limitation in the advertisement. She then began yelling and cursing at me and told me I was being an a$$h0le and b!t(h in Spanish little did she know I speak Spanish too and I told her in Spanish she better watch what she says. For her to be a manager and conduct herself like this was totally unacceptable and unprofessional although I don’t expect top-tier one customer service from family dollar. I definitely don’t expect to be cursed out simply because a discrepancy with the price. Although I definitely will not shop at Family Dollar she needs to be reprimanded and trained better because it could’ve turned into a worse situation with another customer. not everyone thinks rationally like I do. For her own good she needs to conduct herself better.

Managers make money on the side

Waco, TX on LaSalle. They allow people to steal. I watched it happen over and over. The manager Tony watched it happen. The cashier watched it. But it's okay, because they're friends. I know this for a fact. Lived there all my life. Know the people, and the store workers. They sale expired food. When I pointed it out on some lunch meat, I was offered $1 off. The meat was grey/green. I took a picture. It was still there the next day. The workers are polite tho. The Family Dollar on 34th & Bosque, the manager Christina steals the money from the safe, discounts so many people it's crazy. They're very prejudice in her store. She calls her male family members, or man she is with, to intimidate. SMH. And they allow people to come thru the loading to get things, or act like they're throwing out stuff. In reality, they set the stuff on the side and have people pick it up. You can buy bundles this way from Christina P (the manager) @ a pretty good discount. I do recommend you hook up with her if your if Mexican descent.
I don't know how to leave the picture of the spoiled meat, but i have it. Lol get you some

I went in the Family Dollar on Highway…

I went in the Family Dollar on Highway 42 today on Sunday and I bought a football that was marked $12. It rang up $15. The cashier said I’m not allowed to change the price if they change the price in the store there’s nothing I can do I said it, but the football was marked $12 so she called the manager. The manager said I cannot change. The price is ringing up $15. That’s what it cost. I said the box is $12. She said I can only refund your money that’s all I can do. I cannot sell you the football for $12 even though it says $12 so everybody watch out the Family Dollar on Highway 42 in Rex Road. They are marking up their prices when you get to the register be careful

How is this place even open? Why do they keep building more stores when they can’t even get people to work at the ones they have. This whole franchise is a joke. They only hire the dumbest rudest laziest people ever because they don’t pay shit. Everything they sell is outdated and broken. Treats Me Like Family

I went to Family Dollar to return a coffee pot. The coffee pot was cheap and defective. Ms Jackie the store Manager,promptly refunded my money,without the 1000 questions,of why?(this was a while back)...Ms Jackie is always polite and respectful to customers. Ms Jackie appears to genuinely care about the customers, the employees,and the store. I will refer friends and relatives to this Family Dollar....#10226(Store Number). Have a Blessed Day!

I visited the family dollar store on…

I visited the family dollar store on market street in pottsville pa. I observed a customer taking a lot of candy and leaving the store.(there was no cashiers up front). I told an employee jerry that the guy just took a handful of candy and left. He said to me he's probably on drugs and needs a sugar fix. The next day the guy approached me and said thatthe cashier jerry said I accused him of stealing and doing drugs. So I approached the manager and she told me she gave my name to him. I told her that's the thanks I get for helping the store after being a day to day customer. I told crystal I was no longer coming to the store and she said good. She said she wasn't having anyone coming into her store yelling at her. To me if she wouldn't have mentioned my name there would be no problem. As of today I am seeking a lawyer on the company for compensation for the employees for putting me in physical harm by mentioning my name. I loved shopping there till Saturdays incident.

Shake-down joint

Bought a roll of Scotch tape, which was clearly marked on the shelf for $1.00. Cashier charged me $3.50. When I brought this to her attention, expecting her to refund the difference immediately or at least to credit and re-run the transaction, she acknowledged the mistake but told me I would have to wait till she finished with the other customers behind me, she could not refund cash, and it would take 7-8 business days to refund my card. She knew I wouldn't want to wait. I was so angry, I Ieft, vowing never to darken their door again. It's a shake-down joint! Family Dollar at 2017 S Broad St, Winston Salem, NC. Avoid it like a swollen raccoon carcass.

I bought a fan put it together it didn't work it was to late to return it so I bought a box fan that was cheaper at menards. I took fan back to family dollar next day after work they wouldn't refund my money only gave me a return why would I want another one. I already spent more money on a better fan that works. Now I got a unopened fan from them that I dont want they just lost a customer.

Horrible Business - Family Dollar in Chicago

First if they negative stars I would rather use that because 1 star is even too much credit for this poorly run organization and its staff.
I happened to go into the store today at 1425 W. Morse Ave in Chicago, of which we frequent a lot during the month for dry goods, cleaning supplies and other various items.
During my visit to the store today (07/03/2025) I happened to stop in for some dry goods, and went directly to the check out line (of which was long as usual, due to lack of proper staffing and checkout infrastructure. I happened to be on my phone ( not great as some may see it) but I just so happened to receive a most important call right prior to getting into line at the checkout. In stepping up to get checked out my conversation on the phone with person on the other line was getting a little elevated in tone, and so the young lady (employee for FD) was standing behind the counter working on something (other employee was checking me out) when your employee with her back to me for she was occupied doing something behind the counter must have thought my private conversation with other party on my phone, that I was speaking to her or about the store. When in fact was not true at all, and so she turns around and starts to lecture me now, and I stated directly back with level tone " Excuse me but I am not speaking to you or anyone here" so please leave me alone response and she kept it up like she was trying to engage me for some reason, not sure why, and so upon completion of my purchase as I was about to exit the store, she really started to lay it on and stated " some people come in here and act all privileged", and some other words, and then she came on very strong, and stated to me directly " don't ever come back to this store, and keep your white ass out of here" and your not welcome here"

I suggested after that comment, she might wish to be careful for it could possibly jeopardize her employment with the company.

Had, she simply stated after my original comment of I was not talking with you, and clearly she could see on was on the phone, maybe a more appropriate response might have been to say, I am sorry, excuse me and went about here work, but no she had to start coming on strong with her words of total disrespect and making a scene for all to see.

This is not acceptable at anytime in any business anywhere in the US, we should not allow this to happen as companies, and should not tolerate this behavior or should I say lack thereof business behavior at anytime. She I would not believe have the power to suggest I am not welcome, nor should ever return to the store. I would like to mention never during this interaction did I ever raise my voice, and or disrespect her person, and of course her race or gender.

Just for FYI here I and now my wife use to work for this company many years ago, and we managed one of the largest stores in Chicago for the company. I would like to say we turned in tremendous results in all categories for the company, and I can assure you my now wife (was my asst. mgr at the time) would never tolerate any type of this behavior and in the event it ever took place that staff person was pulled off the floor immediately, and reprimanded accordingly. If anyone would have acted out in this manner like your employee did today, and talked to a customer like she spoke to me, she would have been terminated immediately and escorted from our store.

We as a nation have grown accustom to less than good service, less than professional courtesy, and for sure racial over tones, but we still continue to patronize certain business with our hard earned dollars, only to be treated and accept bad service.

We all need to demand accountability from these companies, whether it be Family Dollar, Walgreens, the local grocery store, Jewel Food Stores etc... It is not and should not be acceptable and some retraining and better supervision should be a must. Companies wonder why they are struggling to stay in business and or show better profits, but fail to see the problems are right in front of them from poor, untrained staff, to stores that look horrible and are not presentable.

Family Dollar stores are suffering in many locations, and will continue to suffer and close stores until the corporate management does what they should and get out into the stores, higher better middle management staffing, and do their jobs better to show that they care about the daily operations.

I will be sending a letter directly to the CEO of this company to alert him to all with hopes it may be a wake up call for this company to act accordingly.

Taxed on food items (non-taxable)

I purchased a couple cans of CH Ground Coffee in May 2025. Hey, its not Starbucks but its drinkable if you're not fully awake. They charged tax on the item (which seemed suspicious, and sure enough the item is NY non-taxable when I checked). I tried to get a refund at the cashier, but I might as well have not bothered. I then posted the receipt 2x to the corporate website with no response. Why the company prefers minor overages to escalate like this is beyond me.
