This company and its monopoly in the CO area is appalling. Is this why there are so many terrible drivers in this state? After having a daughter and two nieces go through this program, there is a major issue with this gem having the only market share for instruction. The system fails only at the most convenient times. Like dmv test day, so they all , at different times, couldn’t test on their days. Who do you get to share your concerns with? Nobody, because they don’t have to care. They have this contract on CO no matter what. Now after being behind one of their cars with an instructor and student in it, I am more worried about what is being taught. Not only was the student going an unsafe speed of 25 in a 40. They had instructions to get in the left/passing lane to keep up this jam in traffic. Please do something about this CO, you are creating terrible drivers. Plus this monopoly is not what this capitalist society wants or needs. Glad we moved to AL and lost all the fees we had to pay in as well, no refunds btw. Well, at least I can rest knowing my daughters will grow up as sensible, well trained drivers. Being they didn’t have to finish learning bad habits to appease a terrible choice in systems.

Speedometer on Test Car Didn't Match Actual Speed
I paid to have them give me a driving test at the Louisville location and they put me in a car with a speedometer that DIDN'T REFLECT the ACTUAL SPEED I WAS GOING. And THEN they directed me to drive this car into an active School Zone of FIRESIDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL...again, WITHOUT warning that their instrument panel wasn't set correctly. If THAT wasn't bad enough, then they FAILED me for going over the speed limit in that zone because I was referring to their digital speedometer. At NO point did my test coordinator warn me to IGNORE the digital speedometer next to the dial speedometer. They later explained that it was a "newer car" which was "somehow" preset to list the overall AVERAGE of my speed during the entire trip. I only referred to the digital number a couple times when it was dangerous to take my eyes off the road, like in a school zone, and I just needed to check the digital read-out: which read "19MPH": a mile an hour BELOW the speed limit. Not only did they ADMIT to doing this, they claim they've BEEN doing this to people, I was the first to complain about it and so they've done nothing wrong. They're still charging me for that test along with the retake of the test, because I "failed". So far, I've filed a complaint with Consumer Protection Services, contacted just shy of a dozen local reporters and Monday I'm talking to a lawyer. I shouldn't have to explain this is dangerous and unethical to for a "professional driving business" to put someone into a car DESIGNED to test one's driving performance with a speedometer gauge set to ANYTHING besides the ACTUAL SPEED you're traveling and then tell them to drive through one of the most crowded and chaotic elementary school zones in the area.

Our vehicles don't feature a digital speedometer; instead, they are equipped with a data display that reports the average speed of your trip, amongst other tracking metrics. Like many models, our vehicles have analog speedometers. Nonetheless, we understand your source of confusion, and acknowledge your frustration. Regarding the school zone, our drive test routes are predetermined by the state, not by DriveSafe. The state has designed the test this way to assess your ability to navigate various driving scenarios safely. After trying to reach you multiple times, we’ve received and confirmed your cancellation request for your retake. Should you wish to reschedule, we can accommodate that request. Drive safe provides a paid service and should not be barring paying customers from taking classes

Professional staff and helpful representatives for parents
The instructors were professional and helpful. Staff assisting on the phone were so accomodating. Appreciated the flexibility with scheduling. Wish there were more hours available for training at the Greenwood Village location. Kevin was the best tester and trainer. Felt trainers were adaptive for special circumstances.

These are expensive classes and during their driving training they do not cover driving rules/regulations that they test kids on during their driving tests. Not having that background is enough for the same instructors to fail kids on their driving tests. (This is specific to how to use pull out lanes with adjacent bike lanes--which is either not that important because no one actually uses them as designed or of the upmost importance because the testers engage them multiple times so that they become an auto fail if not done correctly.) They provide cars with poor traction and then automatically fail tests if there is any tire slippage when accelerating from stops on snowy roads and they do not allow the use of cars with appropriate traction. Finally, the staff tried to point us to walk in testing at their other school based centers and these centers do not actually provide that service.
If the goal is to examine if kids have the skills to be safe on the road they are focusing on the wrong points. If the goal is to milk money from a system where they take advantage of state mandates, they are doing a great job.

DriveSafe’s curriculum is regularly updated with Colorado driving laws, and best-practice techniques, that meet state driving requirements in both our Driver’s Education classes and our Behind-the-Wheel lessons. We see your son completed 30 classroom hours and 6 behind-the-wheel hours before his license test. We can confirm that the rules and skills you mention are covered in our curriculum, and all our courses meet State Requirements.
The Drive Test route is designed and certified by the state department and requires our DriveSafe instructors to report on a stringent set of standards. Your son did not pass due to 23 skill standard violations, 3 traffic law violations, and a serious action. Each of these totals alone result in an automatic failure. For training and reviewing purposes, DriveSafe does record students’ test drives, and we’d be more than happy to review the video with you and your son for any further clarification.
We acknowledge that correct use of lanes (specifically when bike lanes are present) is imperative for safety. While we agree that sadly many drivers do not share the road correctly, it is still our responsibility to teach and report on these standards that are set forth by the state. They are designed this way to help students understand how to drive more safely, in the interest of themselves and others who share the road. There have been multiple updates to bike lane laws in Colorado in the last few years, in response to few roadway users abiding to safety precautions, thus the importance for the state and our certified instructors to teach, test, and reinforce the importance of such laws.
Regarding your comment on vehicle traction: while we do not use 4WD vehicles for our drive test appointments, we do adhere to a strict maintenance policy which includes having optimal tire tread depth and pressure. As previously mentioned, drive test standards, as set by the state, do deem a slip, spin, or slide of the tires as an automatic failure as it is a serious action if the driver loses control of the vehicle. We can understand your frustration with this rule given the season, however, your son failed for other reasons not just related to this standard.
Regarding your comment on walk-in testing, we apologize if there was a misunderstanding. Our team mentioned that DMV walk-ins are not in effect except for one of the south DMV offices.
Lastly, our company’s mission is to help meet your son’s driving needs, whether that is taking another test, or encouraging you to shop for services elsewhere. Our interest is aligned with students passing, but even more so, with everyone's safety on the road. We respect we may have differences in opinion, but regardless, we wish you and your son a lifetime of safe driving.

Great experience!
The DriveSafe team took great care in assisting our family. They took the extra time to help me navigate the DMV website for our girls to get their driving permits following them passing their tests. And they didn't hesitate to give accommodations to our daughter who is on an IEP at school. They worked with us so she could take the test and have it read out loud to her. They also celebrated sincerely the joy of her success in passing!

Find somewhere else
This is the second time using this location. Both times the scheduler has incorrectly input the schedule we agreed to verbally.
This last time we showed up for a lesson and it was listed for a test. I asked what would happen if we took the test and failed. They said the package I bought comes with two tests - ok then let’s try the test. The student failed the test. No big deal, we rescheduled the correct lesson and a future test. The student passed and we went to the dmv. The dmv told us that we were going to be charged extra ($50) because she failed the test.
The drive school messed up the schedule, No one at the drive school told us that if she failed the test that there could be potentially added fees at the dmv. If they did, then we wouldn’t have taken the test that day.
My other big problem with this school is they don’t take the drivers test on any highway. This is so important where we live and is a big gap in their system.

Regarding the DMV, because we are two entirely separate businesses, with separate policies, we were not aware of the fees associated with a failed test. We are however, instructed by the DMV to direct our customers to their information pages, for any matters concerning their services which you can find here: https://mydmv.colorado.gov/_/ We’re sorry we didn’t direct you to their page sooner so you could learn about their policies in advance.
Lastly, we are required to follow the driver’s test route that is set forth by the State, and highway driving is not included in that test route. While we don’t have control over the driver’s test route, we do understand the importance of gaining driving experience on the highway. This is why we recommend students practice with their guardian, or book a lesson with us for more training.
Ultimately, we’re glad your student was able to pass their driver’s test and we wish you both a lifetime of safe driving! Best of luck
It was impossible to get drive times…
It was impossible to get drive times that my child could attend without missing school for drive times. I even called months ahead of time and still could not find drive times! My son used this same program 2 years before and this was not the case. It was very convenient and service oriented. I get that there was a shortage of staffing this last year, but it was absolutely ridiculous how hard it was to schedule drives. We ended up doing all the drives in one week over spring break, and still had to drive all over Colorado to get the 3 drives. Even though I had called months a head of time to book them
