I am loathed to give 1 star. I have not set up a direct debit with this company. Goodness knows how they have my bank details. The details that they have for me are totally incorrect. I am female and they have me as a male. The address is incorrect. I have contacted my bank and I have received the money back. I have emailed this 'company' and advised them that they remove ALL of my details and confirm that they have removed all of my details or I am informing the police. From the comments below this is not an isolated incident and con artists like this should be stopped.

I have just had to contact my bank as I received a copy of The Week that I didn't order and a completely different name to mine on the address label. I then found that a direct debit had been set up! How on earth can a DD be set up for my address and bank details but a completely different name to mine, does this company not check the name on the bank account matches?
Edit: I have just read previous reviews and it seems this is not an isolated incident. I'd encourage EVERYONE to report this company as this is an absolute disgrace!
I have reported this as fraud.

Fraudulent company, they got my details from who knows where and set up a subscription. They are the only ones benefiting from this and this is not the first time they have done this to people..and they have had the problem for a long time and not actually dealing with the issue. Same old standard "we are looking into it" replies...how long do these things have to carry on some reviews are a year old.I hope it is damaging their business as they deserve it...

Saw a direct debit come out of my bank this morning. No idea how you’ve gotten my details but I suggest you remove them.
Money refunded as made my bank aware straight away. Never even heard of you until my bank told me who you were and I googled and saw all these posts about you doing the same to others too.
Absolute joke. Can’t believe you can get hold of people’s information and account details like this.

Yes I am another person who Dennis Publishing have tried to take money from. I have emailed them but they say they can’t trace the account. Yet they have managed somehow to get my bank details to set up a direct debit and have sent out a magazine I have never ordered.

I received an email yesterday that a DD was set up by these people. I have no idea who they are or how they got my details. I also got an alert from my bank acknowledging a new direct debit has been set up. I checked my app and it is true! I have deleted it via my app but I am totally infuriated and feel violated. I don't know you guys, I don't know where you got my details from. I think it is shameful that you use such methods to get clients or that your controls are so loose that this can be happening in 2019. I don't know if you pay people to scrape the internet to get details then try and force people to subscribe. This is fraud!!!
When I got the email, I thought it was a phishing email trying to get me to click on any of the links, so I ignored it. Imagine my shock when I got an alert from my Bank. What if there were no alerts?
...........
Following the above post, I actually called Dennis and they were very nice about it. Looked into it immediately and said they would delete all my details. They are investigating as to why this is happening. Time will tell if their deletion etc has actually worked.

Fraudulent activity on my account from this company, luckily noticed it before any money was taken, would love to know how and where they got my bank details from and the subscription wasn’t even set up to the correct address. It’s all good and we’ll telling us to contact our bank but if you didn’t set up dodgy subscriptions without permission using details you weren’t given there would be no need!!!!

This is now the 5th time I have had a direct debit set up on my account from either "THE WEEK LTD" or "DENNIS PUBLISHING"
Each time I have made the company aware and they don't seem to care, clearly it is happening to loads of other people too.
I wonder how many poor old men and women who don't check their accounts have been paying for this!!!! Absoluteyl infuriating that they aren't doing anything about it.
SORT IT OUT YOU MUPPETS

Second time fraudulent direct debit set up on my account.

Fraud / phishing email received from supposedly Dennis Publishing. Stated my correct name and address details. Stated the order was confirmed for a 12 month subscription to "The Week":
12 issues for £12.00, then £40.49 every 13 issues.
I rang my bank's fraud dept straight away - no suspect activity and no direct debit set-up. Phew. May be against a recurring payment on my debit card but this would not be visible by the bank.
I then rang Dennis Publishing - they confirmed that the Order No in the email was fake. I have forwarded the email to their customer services for investigation. Interestingly, Dennis Publishing told me that a subscription for "Computer Active" had been set in May 2019 with my personal details but money never taken and the subscription is now inactive.
1-2 yrs ago I was subject to numerous bank frauds on an now closed bank account with a different bank Fraud was setting up direct debits for magazine subscriptions, Cloud data subscriptions and others. I ended up closing down the account.BE AWARE.

So... 2 direct debits set up, first last week for “octane media ltd” - contacted bank and flagged as fraud and cancelled ... today woken up to “the week ltd” set up... just waiting for the fraud team to call me back to open an investigation ... never heard of either of these, yet they keep taking my money! Bank are investigating!

Fraudsters !!!!!!!!
I’ve just finished on the phone to my bank after discovering a direct debit set up to The Week Ltd that I had nothing to do with.
My bank are reluctant to dig into this however, I am going to find out how this was done as my name, account number and sort code must have been used and hence held against my wishes by the Dennis Group in complete contravention of the GDPR.

Risposta di Dennis
Another one here, many direct debits have been set. Never made any subscription, trial or even get any magazine.
Only just notice have been taken a considerable amount several times.
I would like to be contacted in order to get a refund on this!

Disgusting company, have taken money from my account and when i tried to call about it i was told they had no details for me.
1. Where did they get my details from?
2. Why has nothing been done about this company which is obviously heavily involved in fraud.
I've claimed the money back through my bank only to find they have actually attempted to do it all over again. Glad i have alerts setup to prevent this from happening now.

To follow on from my earlier review...
My problem with Dennis - the continuing non-delivery of a single copy of Fortean Times - pales into insignificance compared with some of the things being reported here. However I do like to get what I've paid good money for; it is now over two months since I placed my order, and Dennis claims to have sent me the magazine on three separate occasions.
I am finding that increasingly hard to believe as,
a) Dennis has confirmed that it has my correct address, and b) all my other mail is arriving on time and as expected.
I don't know precisely what the problem can be: It is theoretically possible, I suppose, that a disgruntled member of the Royal Mail is for some reason routinely intercepting every copy of Fortean Times that I am being sent.
However, given some of the allegations made here, it seems more reasonable to conclude that the magazines are not even being sent, due to some combination of dishonesty/incompetence/broken processes within Dennis Publishing.
Whatever the truth, I have now completely lost interest in receiving the magazine and have requested a refund. I will keep this board updated as to how I get on. At time of typing it has been with the "relevant department" (whatever that means) for the last three weeks, and I have not received any sort of update in over a week.
In anticipation of Cavel Swaby's almost-inevitable copy-and-paste response to this, I would like to ask Cavel if he/she genuinely believes that this sort of response is putting anyone's mind at rest who might be considering sharing personal data with Dennis Publishing.
The "we are investigating the fraud issues internally" mantra has now been in use since February.
Has any progress been made with this "investigation"? Have the police been informed?
Given the seriousness of some of the allegations, it might be more appropriate if the responses were from someone appreciably higher up the chain of command than a Subscriptions clerk.
Instead the overall impression being given is of a company that seems to care as little about its own reputation as it does about its customers.
I look forward to receiving my refund, and will be making regular appearances on here until I get it.

Fraud. They set DD twice within 2months. I could cancel on time . Was done through octane media group . Report right away to bank. At Denis they not bothering to do anything even to delete details.

I’ve just received an email that a DD was set up for these people I have no idea who they or how they got my details, I will be contacting my bank in the morning to report them for fraud, I am also ringing them to get my details removed from their system!!

Also had exactly the same issue, how they are still able to set up direct debits with this going on is ridiculous! Luckily didn’t lose any money as saw the direct debit was set up. Reported the company and issue to action fraud.

My details were stolen and my email address they even had at dennis for a magazine called money weekly.
Then had a magazine sent to a different address in my road with my name on it from time inc I had this problem 2 years ago and it's very frustrating because they cannot do a trace on a ip address where the email address was used.

Risposta di Dennis
Just checked my bank account and seen that on the 20/03/2019 £120 was taken out by you guys? Why? £120 for a magazine subscription? I don't think so... I don't have any subscription with you what so ever. I sincerely hope you delete any information about me from your systems and hope it doesn't happen again. I am absolutely disgusted at this and it is very concerning that somehow you have my details and I haven't given them to you. I do expect an explanation for this catastrophe. I will be contacting my bank and getting my money back. If it does happen again I will be taking this to the claims court.
