A bit sketchy car rental site
The actual company behind the site seems to be Fontana car rentals. Overall the car renting experience was ok, if a bit shady. On the website rental terms are presented in a very compact form and those are not the same actual terms you are hastily presented when you actually go and collect the car. When you collect your car the tiny print on the behind-page states, for example, that glass and tires are not included on the insurances - while the website specifically says that those are included. On the Cyprus-Car website they also state that all of their cars are under 3 years old, which wasn't the case with our 5 year old, beat-up Japanese import, which was only presented to us after signing the rental agreement. I rented the car from Larnaca airport and the rental agreement was done on a coffee shop terrace outside the terminal. Return of the car was instructed to be done by parking the car on the short-term parking area of the airport and to leave the keys under the drivers floormat with the doors open - again - maybe commonplace with these smaller rental companies, but still a bit sketchy. Still, given all of the above, I don't think they purposefully try to scam you or anything like that, but the rental process and the website seriously lack transparency and their operations don't seem to be very systematic, which can both make the whole process a bit stressful.
On the plus side, rental price was reasonable, the car was clean on the inside and at least the size of the vehicle matched that on the online agreement. Also, given all the existing dents and marks on the car, I wouldn't think they mind if you returned the car with a couple more, so maybe you don't have to worry that as much as with some of the big rental companies. Further, the pre-auth on the credit card was on the smaller side (250€), which was returned to me after the rental without issues, so it wasn't all bad. Still, in the future I think I'm going to pay a little extra and avoid the hassle that came with dealing with this site.
