“Homing In” advert

In my opinion the “Homing In” advertisement on GB News, played to the majestic Hallelujah Chorus, is in extremely poor taste - sacrilegious! I can’t imagine being the only one offended by Copperhouse trivialisation of this outstanding piece of music!

Amatereurish adverts on offer.

As a regular GB News viewer, one of the biggest downsides is the adverts. They are often abysmal, boring, repetitive and poorly produced. One group of adverts has the same "actor" selling financial services, then helping his Nan choose a reclining chair, before becoming a car salesman and finally a masked factoring agent leaping across desks. Appalling. We now have an advert from Copperhouse films extolling their output and claiming responsibility for some adverts on GB News, and offering to produce more! Heaven forbid. The two "actors" stroll on the set as if they have just finished managing a Kebab shop; their movements and dialogue are amateurish and a complete turnoff. As a former CEO there is no way I would be persuaded to invest in such an offer.

Risposta di Copperhousefilms

Hi Alan,

Thank you for taking the time to share your views.

It’s worth pointing out that you do not appear to have been a customer of Copperhouse Films, nor do you mention any direct experience of working with us. As such, your comments are based solely on your personal opinion of some television adverts rather than the service we provide to our clients.

You also appear to be under the impression that Copperhouse Films produces all of the adverts shown on GB News. We do not. We produce commercials for a range of businesses, but we are not responsible for the vast majority of advertising broadcast on the channel.

Of course, advertising is subjective and everyone is entitled to their opinion. Some viewers will like a particular advert, whilst others won’t. However, comments about actors (in this case the business owners) looking as though they have “just finished managing a kebab shop” are personal remarks about individuals rather than constructive feedback about our business.

One thing we are particularly proud of is helping smaller businesses access television advertising, many for the very first time. Not every company has the budget of a national brand, but we firmly believe that local and independent businesses deserve the opportunity to tell their stories on television too. For many of our clients, simply being able to appear on TV and reach new customers is something that would otherwise have been completely out of reach.

You also mention seeing the same actor across several different campaigns. Whilst we appreciate that may not be to everyone’s taste, it is worth noting that these adverts were originally created for different businesses and were primarily intended for targeted Sky AdSmart campaigns rather than broad channel-wide broadcast. As they were never originally intended to appear on GB News, the likelihood of the same viewer seeing all of these adverts was extremely low. The intention was never for viewers to see multiple campaigns featuring the same actor on the same channel. As television advertising has evolved and some campaigns have subsequently appeared on additional nationally targeted channels such as GB News there have inevitably been occasions where viewers may have seen the same actor in more than one advert. That is simply a consequence of working with professional actors across a range of productions for different clients.

Ultimately, the best measure of whether we are trustworthy and effective to work with comes from the businesses that have actually engaged our services. We are proud of the relationships we have built with our clients and the results we have delivered for them, many of whom continue to work with us time and time again.

We genuinely welcome feedback from customers and viewers alike, but we believe there is a clear distinction between a review of a company’s services and a personal opinion on television advertising styles.

We wish you all the best.

P.S. As a former CEO, I am sure you will appreciate the impact public reviews can have on a business, particularly a small independent one. We welcome constructive feedback from genuine customers, as that helps us improve. However, there is an important distinction between reviewing a service you have actually received and expressing a personal preference about a style of advertising. One provides valuable insight for prospective customers; the other is simply a matter of taste.
