The best representative

It was the best interaction I could have asked for! Matt Cooke was my representative and he was the most friendly,professional and clearly experienced representative I ever could have asked for.Hs truly went above and beyond to coach me as an individual and remove even the slightest worry. I honestly cannot express my gratitude enough.As for the rest of the team they are also incredibly helpful for example Faye, she took was so friendly and helpful. Overall as a team they are brilliant and I would encourage everyone to take the time to join.

Fantastic union- highly recommended!

I signed up to Community in May along with many colleagues when the organisation I worked for launched a collective consultation as they were proposing a restructure, and led/handled the process appallingly. From beginning to end, they were absolutely brilliant. Dave Weekes was my union rep and he was very supportive, insightful and helped me at various stages with empathy and kindness. I firmly believe that if I hadn't have signed up to Community, navigating the consultation process would have been a stressful experience. Dave provided me with the assurance needed to help me prepare for consultation meetings and the appeal. Thanks so much! Brilliant brilliant union - and demonstrated everything that's great about unions.

Community union representative (Mavis Kwesie) presence in my meetings gave me confidence and credibility that I doubt any other union could have provided. Community Trade Union truly had my back

As a senior HR professional with a decade of international experience, I never imagined I’d need union support myself. But when my own employee rights were dismissed, over and over again, simply because I worked in HR, I realised how vulnerable even HR professionals can be.

I was told I would be made redundant and that my role would end within one week—with no proper consultation. In the UK, a consultation period is a legal right, yet it was denied to me. Again.

That’s when I turned to Community Trade Union—and I’m so glad I did.

From the moment I joined, their support was exceptional. I’d like to personally thank Sati Bhachu, who was calm, professional and genuinely on my side throughout. She helped me assert my right to a fair process, ensured I had representation and supported me through every step.

Thanks to Sati and Community, I didn’t have to walk away in silence. I was treated fairly and with respect.

Unions like Community are vital—not just for traditionally vulnerable roles but also for professionals, who are expected to "know better" and therefore get overlooked. I’m deeply grateful for their backing and would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone who feels unheard or unprotected in the workplace.

Community Trade Union stood by me when it mattered most.

Dismissive and Deeply Disappointing

I joined this union to ensure I had proper support for any employment issues that might arise. Less than a month later, I experienced issues at work.

Despite this, the union brushed my case aside by claiming it is a “pre-existing matter” simply because the creative process in question may have started before I joined. That logic is deeply flawed. I didn’t seek support for the creative process. I sought support for the disciplinary action and the harm it caused me, which clearly took place after I became a paying member.

I sent a detailed, respectful reply clarifying this, and have since been met with silence. No engagement. No help. No defence. Even though there was an impending deadline, which has now passed.

This kind of behaviour from a union is disgraceful. People don’t join unions for hypothetical support, they join to be protected when real issues arise. And when mine did, they turned their back on me.

Luckily, I was able to receive support from a different source. But I shudder to think of those who may have no alternative and are left stranded by a union that should have been their safety net.

If you're considering this union, be warned: they will happily take your money, but when you really need them, they may twist the timeline to wash their hands of you.

Dear Isaac, I'm sorry to read that you had a negative experience with Community.

I've looked into your case, as well as the communications between yourself and our Service Centre advisors, and I can only echo what our advisors have already discussed with you. The creative process is still considered part of the disciplinary process.

Therefore, the issue will still pre-exist your membership with us as your employer began the disciplinary process prior to you joining Community.

As per our terms and conditions, Community is unable to assist you with any legal issues that occur in the workplace that pre-date your membership with us, even if they have only just occurred, or are in early stages of development, such as the creative process of a disciplinary.

As you would not be covered by your union membership for this issue, I would advise that you seek employment support from ACAS at https://acas.org.uk who can offer over the phone advice.

Highly recommended

Thank you so much for all your help and support with my internal appeal. Nicola Wells was very helpful and an excellent negotiator. Community have a strong network of legal professionals and experienced advisors who are available to provide support. The waiting times were good and my rep made the whole process straightforward. The service provided was great, I'm glad that I chose to join Community.

I'm so happy that I cancelled my membership as my case at the tribunal it's going really well and already got positive outcomes so far, where my disability has been recognised. It's a shame to see an union taking your money, but they refuse to represent you. They obviously don't wanna spend their budget allocated for these cases. Don't join this union or any other one, is just waste of money.

Update to my review: The Union is lying.

Following their response to my review, I want to clarify that they are misrepresenting the situation. I sent all my documents via WeTransfer, and for an entire week, I received no response. Moreover, I was able to verify that no one from the union even downloaded the documents. This proves that my case was not even reviewed, let alone properly considered. At no point did I receive any communication stating that I could not be represented for my claims of unfair dismissal, wrongful deduction from my wages, bullying, and intimidation. Instead, my emails were ignored, and the only time they responded was when I requested to cancel my membership. I have proof of everything, including the fact that my documents were never accessed. If necessary, I will post this evidence publicly on social media and other platforms. This experience has been beyond disappointing, and I strongly advise others to think twice before relying on this union for support when it actually matters.

I never thought I would have to write this, but my experience with this union has been incredibly disappointing. After being unfairly dismissed, I turned to my union for the support I had been paying for, only to be met with ignored emails and a complete lack of interest in my case. I provided all the necessary documents for my Employment Tribunal, yet my union representative has failed to communicate or take action. It feels like they are deliberately avoiding my case rather than standing up for workers' rights. Is this where our membership fees are going? A union should fight for its members, not abandon them when they need help the most. If you’re considering joining, think twice because when it really matters, you might find yourself alone. Interestingly, when I needed urgent legal support, my emails were ignored, but as soon as I requested to cancel my membership, I received a prompt response. This says everything about where their priorities lie.

What’s the point of paying for a…

What’s the point of paying for a service and they can’t even offer you advice terrible experience today. My colleague at work. Spoke highly of this company. Can’t even get any advice when I’m paying for a service it’s ridiculous the person I spoke to sounded so unhelpful anyway like he didn’t wanna even be in his job.

Pension battle

First Class service …

I couldn’t have asked for better support or advice that what I received from them. They were with me every step of the way, stood as a buffer between me and the employer their advice and professionalism was first class. It’s such a complicated process if there are problems within the workplace. This Union in particular is people focused with individual needs and requirements at the forefront of their work. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Their on line training and legal services are a bonus of membership that not all need or explore but are brilliant.
