Excellent Service!

must praise your manager Tommy for his excellent service he provided to me last week. He helped me pick out frames to fit my face. He was very patient in explaining my insurance coverage.
He was efficient, knowledgeable, and professional throughout the appointment. I will recommend him to my co-workers and friends. His expertise and dedication reflect positively on Cohen’s Fashion Optical in Brookwood Plaza at 1863 Street Road in Bensalem, PA.

Cohens Customer’s Saga: A Prescription, A Payment, and Radio Silence

Who needs Netflix when I can follow the drama of “Will They Ever Send My Prescription and Contact Lenses?”

I never had to post a review in my life, but if anyone is considering Cohen's Fashion Optical as their next service provider, please read this carefully. I have been waiting since June for my contact lenses and prescription, which I paid for in full, yet have still not received. Before deciding to post this, I tried several times to resolve the issue privately, but Cohen’s never responded to any of my emails.

Timeline of Events:
* June 16, 2024 - I booked an appointment for a contact lens exam through Cohen’s website and received a confirmation. When I arrived, I was informed by staff that I would need to wait for a call from their office first—something never mentioned in my confirmation email.
* Rescheduled Appointment - During my rescheduled visit, I waited over an hour for the exam. Although this was inconvenient, I understood that delays happen. However, instead of the contact lens prescription I had booked, I received a glasses prescription. After raising the issue, I was given a quick contact lens test and assured my contact lens prescription would be emailed the next day. Yet, despite paying $170 for the exam and lenses, I received neither the lenses nor the prescription.
* Several Weeks Later - I returned to the same Cohen’s location near closing time at 6:45 PM, only to find that employees were leaving early. While I understand that employees may occasionally leave before the official closing time, this experience was frustrating.
* Another Visit to a Different Location - I then tried to resolve the issue at a different Cohen’s location, where I learned that locations don’t have access to each other’s prescriptions. While I understand data security policies, having a centralized system would make the experience far more customer-friendly. I was told to contact the original Jersey Gardens location and request that they send the prescription by email or fax. Despite calling and being assured that the prescription would be sent, I never received it. Upon further follow-up, I was told that „they were just about to call”…, no email or fax had been sent and, astonishingly, that no contact lens prescription existed. How could they sell me contact lenses that day without prescription?
* October 29, 2024 - Frustrated, I sent an email with proof of payment and detailing all the issues I’d experienced, from the missed prescription to the unprofessional customer service. I explained the ongoing problems and requested an immediate resolution. No response was received.
* November 7, 2024 - After my October email went ignored, I sent another follow-up, requesting help for the second time in writing. Yet again, Cohen’s did not respond. Not only am I dealing with a missing prescription and contact lenses I paid for, but Cohen’s also appears to be ignoring my communications entirely.

I wonder if Cohen’s offers a loyalty card for each attempt to resolve the same problem? After ten, I might qualify for a free apology.

The new kinks have been worked out the Durante's are back!

I have been going to Cohen's and Dr. Durante at Treasure Coast Mall since the 1990's and had never had a problem! Excellent service, rapid completion of glasses and Dr. Durante is one of the hardest working most capable professionals around. As I understand it, Dr. Durante and his loyal crew had a justifiable altercation with the Cohen's Corporate brand and chose to disassociate themselves and move to St. Lucie West. The removal of the 'Cohen's' portion of their outside signage rather backs this up. During that rocky time as well, Dr. Durante had an unfortunate series of serious health issues. Recently, like many people without being aware of these changes, I had to wait months for my glasses to be ready. Three months later and after numerous visits to their new SLW location, the extremely capable Mrs. Durante took over my situation and within a week I had my glasses and Mrs. Durante even generously reduced the price!! They had been in the process of hiring new local American (the old Cohen's brand sends out to China!) prescription eyeglass providers, the reasoning behind the exceptionally long waiting time. The Durante's had started out at this new location with an overload of difficulties and now seem to have worked through the worst and are back on track with their previously acclaimed first-rate service. I will be back! I recommend that those who have been satisfied with the old Cohen's at the Mall to please give them at their new SLW location another chance.

I have bought many pairs of glasses…

I have bought many pairs of glasses here for me and my family. The service is phenomenal. The prices are always reasonable. I am a bit reckless and have damaged a few pairs over the years. They have always repaired them for me for a fair price. I would highly recommend them . Always a great experiences.

Avoid at all costs

Went to the Wayne NJ store. Everything seemed fine. Glasses ridiculously expensive. Hadn't bought new glasses in a long time so just went with it. Realized something was wrong when I saw the "super premium" frames online for $135. Got a price on the exact same pair from a different Cohen's for half price. Definitely crooks. Emailed customer service several times and no reply other than an automated "someone will contact you in 24 hours". Buy your glasses anywhere else!

Nightmare in TownCenter Mall

First the Dr did my prescription wrong had to redue it after I made 4 pair of glasses and they kept telling me you just have to get use to them….. Meanwhile I’ve been wearing glasses my whole life!!!!! Then I called for my prescription then sent the wrong one to my new eyeglass place and they made them and I couldn’t see again. So I had to call and they agreed then sent the wrong one sent the new one and I had to have 3 pairs redone!!!!!they are the rudest stupidest employees I have ever had to deal with. The manager is so horrible and quick rude and no patience for anyone…. Thought I was lying when I said I couldn’t see!!!!!! Never go there and they should be closed!!!!! Or completely fire everyone and hire intelligent people who know what they are doing. Discussed with the whole experience………

Questionable sales methods and no refunds

I am so angry with myself for not investigating this before I went. I trusted my insurance company to have a list of good providers. In short:
1. 100% overpriced, and prices are not clear. They make sure to take the glasses away from you right after you've tried them, and only tells you the price once you're at the register or ask directly. They're 2 people on you, giving you the hardest sell I've ever personally experienced. Have to admit I wasn't prepared and succumbed to it. Not illegal, but read on and you'll see why I deem this unethical.
2. Does not provide you with an itemized receipt, unless you specifically ask for it. Make sure to check it before paying, as they threw in 275 USD worth of additional services that I had not consented to. I called and complained about this after having gone back and gotten the receipt, and they promised to send 3 months of lenses free of charge as an apology.
3. They do not do refunds. I went back not 30 min after I left the store, when I realized what had happened and how much I regretted spending 2K (tearing up as I'm writing this) on lenses and glasses. They told me they'd already started putting in the lenses and could only give me store credit. Again, this was 30 min later. Haven't even received the product and I can't make a return.
4. They promised I'd get USD 200 back, which I could claim via a gift card just by a taking a picture of the lenses. However, this is not a gift card, but a pre-paid CREDIT CARD. So there's no reimbursement despite the promises.

I've submitted a complaint to my insurance company and hope to get them taken off the list of providers. If you're smarter than me and haven't gone yet, please do yourself the favor of going somewhere else.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

AVOID AT ALL COSTS - I paid this store around $1500 for a 1 year supply of contacts, an eye exam, and a pair of single vision glasses in February 2022. I received none of them. The glasses were defective and when I complained they told me I would have to pay an additional $100 to correct the issue. At the end of March - 6 weeks later - I still had not received the 1 year supply of contacts, after repeated calls, visits and lame excuses. When I demanded a refund and a written copy of my prescription, they gave me a bogus prescription that was dated as expired - a classic scam. They refused to give me a refund and the glasses were so distorted they were not usable, and so I left the defective glasses behind at the store. In spite of not ever providing the contacts, being in possession of the glasses, and only providing a useless prescription, they doubled down on their scam and fraudulently challenged my chargeback with my credit card - twice. After months of fighting, I have literally nothing to show for $1500 and my only recourse is to file complaints and sue them. The people who own and work in this business are literally criminals. Do not purchase from this store unless you want to be ripped off, there’s a reason for all the bad reviews.

Unethical Business Practices - BEWARE

The store at 275 Seventh Ave told me they took my insurance, but other stores near me did NOT. That was the first in a long series of lies, deceptive marketing practices, and price gouging. Employees of this store are guilty of unethical business practices, which can be seen dating back 9 years 1 star reviews. I doubt the veracity of any 5 star reviews. Don’t purchases at this store. The selection of frames is poor, and the prices are padded.

1. I called my insurance company, and no claim has been made for over 30 days, which is unusual, as stores file quickly for reimbursement. I received an insurance “benefit” in the form of discounts, but if Cohen’s used my insurance, it would be used up. I don’t recall anyone taking my insurance info. I’m pretty sure the “insurance discount” was a sales tactic, achieved by padding the retail.
2. The frames cost $399. I was given a hard sell, and regretted my choice the next day. It takes a ruthless person desperate for commission for the “hard sell”. A good establishment does not push, because you could end up with an unhappy customer. An ethical business cares about customer satisfaction. This shop is happy to fight with you post-sale regret. When I called the next day, I was told I could not return the frames, I could only exchange them. They have no selection! I was told they would order frames of my choice. My choice retails for $214. Factoring in the “insurance” discount ($299), they refused to tell me the difference in the price, and if there is a potential refund due me on the difference. They told me the frames I saw online are probably counterfeit. No, they're not. That's the price to match.
3. I placed my order on a Saturday, and had reservations the next morning, a Sunday. The second issue I had was blue block filters for $349. Clearly an upsell after I read more later. I was told the order for my lenses was already sent to the lab, and the lenses were cut. No cancellation was possible. On a Sunday? I wasn’t given all the info on the blue block filters, like the fact that they weirdly reflect purple. They said they could change them to clear, but they would be less effective? They had discounted those too, but my bill has one lump discount that’s not itemized. All the discounts were calculated on a Post It. I want a refund on the filters, but don’t know the actual cost. They guaranteed I would love them. I don't! Refund me. They gave me free contact lenses instead. I was buying new lenses and frames because I can no longer wear contacts. What business in today’s market has such a rigid no return policy. It’s a “worst practice’.
4. I picked up my new frames, which was 2 pairs. I had ordered 1 new frame and two sets of RX lenses with extras. The bill was $1746 before the discounts, and $1249 after. I have no idea what I paid per item, because the discounts were grouped together. They didn’t set the lenses flush front; they protrude with sharp edges from the front. I was told it’s my prescription. I didn’t think so, and talked to several opticians. The quality of their lab work is strictly mass market default lens positioning. They could have polished the sharp edges. They could have manually calculated the bevel position, so the lenses sit flush across the front and don’t stick out. UNACCEPTABLE for these prices.
5. I have had nothing but defensive explanations for the cost difference of the frames, the inability to stop the order of the blue block filters, and now the lens positioning. I've been GASLIGHTED by 2 employees there. Also hard selled, up-selled, price gouged, given phony insurance discounts, offered phony discounts on padded pricing, and given free gifts to shut me up. They have delivered inferior quality lab work. Every time I called the store, I was told to come in and discuss it in person. This is a really bizarre tactic, where they outnumber you.
6. I’ve been ignored by the corporate head of customer service, Laura V. She didn’t return 2 voicemails and 1 email. Laura and Leah, I want the cheaper frames comped, to make up for the bad quality lab work on the lenses, and the cost of the blue block filters removed from my bill. The non-itemized discounts at the bottom of bill by Mercy are NOT my problem; you don’t do business this way in retail. I want the list price of these 2 line items refunded. Refund me to my satisfaction, and we can settle this.

Cohen still owns me money from Small Claims Court I won in 2013. Now is 2021.

Below is my review in 2019. As suggested by the below Cohen agent, Ms. Chrissy S, I emailed her right away and then a couple more times afterward, but in vain.

Again, to this date, September 19, 2021, I still have NOT received the balance due, about $420, that Cohen owns me from the court case I won against Cohen in 2013. Yes, 2013, Eight years ago!!!!

Below is my review in 2019:
_______________________________________________________
I won a small claims court judgment in 2013 against Cohen's Fashion Optical for $943. Cohen paid me $520 and still owns me the balance, about $420. I have the NY Marshal to chase after Cohen's for the money, etc... and Cohen still owns me the balance as of to date, 9.23.2019.

Overprice, Rude and dishonest staff.

I purchase eye glasses (consider health care service) from this store. They scam me by saying they will give me $100 off from their glasses frame in the store. The frame is $399 with $100 off is $299. A day later I found out that glasses frame is normally sell in another store for $49-$59. I went back and ask Cohen's to return but they said they can only give me a store credit plus the staff was very rude with an attitude. They probably use this trick to so many consumers. I want to get a refund but they refuse even I have a proof of them selling overprice stuff. I think I have right to defend myself from being take advantage from the store. I would like to review this illegal crime that Cohen's Fashion Optical selling overprice health care service and reject to refund the consumer when the good/services not as expected.

The company continues to advertise a coupon for a low cost eye exam. When I printed the coupon and made the appointment, not 1 but 2 different NY locations refused to honor the deal. I had to convince the manager of the 2nd location that the coupon was a legitimate offer that needed to be honored. She finally relented after I literally called up the site and offer on my phone for her.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!

My wife saw "Dr. Kaye" and was subjected to an hour worth of abuse during her eye exam. I am also going to inform my insurance company that they withheld exam results when they were told my wife was not going to pay three times the amount the glasses and frames actually cost. HORRIBLE!!! Go elsewhere.

Don't Get Robbed Blind

Cohens Fashion Optical is a huge rip off. I went there with a Groupon for eye exame and $200 off frames and lens. First she asked me if i had insurance because i would not really get a proper eye exam with the Groupon. They increased the price of the glasses and the lens more than $200 and told me they cost $723 then made like they were giving me $200 off. When I questioned them and asked for a detailed bill they showed the right prices insulted me by tell me what do you expect you are using a Groupon and refused to honor the Groupon that they put out. To boot I checked online and the same glasses and lenses are no more than $300 total. I asked for a refund and was told they will price match. Funny how can you price match when you won't let your customers know what they purchased? The put on the bill lens and frames. Can't imaging how they stay in business with a business model like this. DON'T GET ROBBED BLIND BY THIS CHAIN
