This is the worst bank I have ever experience. They have a check on hold for me for weeks.
I called customer service today to…
I called customer service today to discuss replacing my card I cancel because of misuse, I ask the lady if the system was down in the bank to get one today. The customer service female who I was speaking too did not understand the question I was asking her so I explain what I was asking her and she hung up on me. I called back upset that the person hung up on me when I was trying to get a replacement card and ask why did you hang up in which I recognize the lady voice and she hung up again. I think that person is unqualified to work at that position if she is not equipped to deal with customers. Now I have to go to the bank and close this account. I WILL NOT CONTINUE TO DO BUSINESS WITH A BANK WHO HAS PEOPLE LIKE THAT WORKING FOR THEM.
Citizens Bank has stolen $852.96 from us
Citizens Bank changed its Bill Payment System at the beginning of the month. The aftermath for us was nothing short of the destruction of our credit rating and the loss of $852.96. 3 payments to TD Auto Finance never made it. WE didn't get contacted by TD until November, when we found out that the payments sent by Bill Pay never arrived. We had made the September, October, and November payments. Calls to Citizens and TD placed us in the middle, with each company blaming the other. Citizens had to be aware of the problems with Bill Pay, but they continuously sent us on a merry-go-round of not answering questions and not resolving the issue. We spent at least a hundred hours on the phone with both banks. After 3 months still no resolution. Credit hit is a loss of over 100 points.
Yesterday TD Auto Finance finally told us that many Citizens customers had a similar problem. TD was able to finally get what they needed from the BIll Payer company and has resolved the problem for some customers. We are not so lucky.
TD can not use the normal trace number to get the payments, and Citizens doesn't seem to care. The trace number gets an error code. Citizens Bank has not addressed the issue. We have been given the same BS for 3 months now. Citizens won't simply recall the payments as requested. WE have had to pay the payments over again so as not to have the car taken from us. Funny thing is, Citizens sent us an e-mail today suggesting we use their Bill Pay system. WTF

It would be great to be able to call customer service and speak to someone who I can actually understand ! Absolutely crazy to me
I'm tired of them charging me TWICE…
I'm tired of them charging me TWICE when I use my debit card for purchases, then if I am overdrawn because of THEIR error, they charge my account $35.00! They don't rectify the issue right away. PLUS, they tell you if you make a deposit to cover the amount you are overdrawn (which you are NOT because the error is on THEIR part) by 10:00 P.M. that day (which I have done!) they won't charge you an overdraft fee but they DO anyway. Outrageous. Going to another bank for sure that has much better banking regulations.

I have been dealing with this issue for two weeks regarding a charge that was made in error. The transaction was processed on the wrong card, for the wrong amount, and without my authorization. Despite clearly explaining this multiple times, I have been repeatedly told to “wait,” with no clear resolution or consistent explanation.
It is extremely frustrating that when a bank makes an error, it can often be corrected quickly — yet when a customer reports an unauthorized charge, the burden falls entirely on them. I have done everything requested of me and still have no resolution.
This situation has caused significant financial stress for my family. What should have been a straightforward correction has turned into an exhausting and disappointing experience.
I expect better communication, transparency, and urgency when it comes to unauthorized transactions. I hope this institution takes customer concerns more seriously moving forward.

I need to find out why my mortgage changed so much so suddenly, the digital chat is less than incompetent, and the phone serivce is a trainwreck,am waiting for 30 mins on hold.

Stay far away from Citizens Bank
This is by far the worst bank I've ever dealt with. Im a senior, and deposited a large amount of money in their money market account, as I potentially needed access to it (never did). I was told that the amount I deposited would quality for their better rates, 2+% at the time. After 6 months, I received no statements, either via email or usps. I called and was told I was enrolled in their "paperless" plan. I asked to receive hard copies, and after many minutes and many questions, I was "all set". Aga, I received nothing for 2 months. I finally went to the bank, and was greated by their rude & arrogant "officer". I found I was only receiving 0.02% interest for the 8 months my money was deposited there. I don't know how this bank can get away with these deceptive polocies. My money is now in a reputable federal credit union. I wish I could give zero stars, which is what they deserve.
Avoid for your wellbeing
Was pushed into using Citizens when HSBC sold their branches to them a few years back. The service was never great, their choices in who the company supports are questionable, to say the least. Even transferring money in / out of the account can take days, when other banks do it immediately. I would not recommend them at all.

I have been banking at canton south branch for many years. The bank manager and staff are always professional and kind.
Terrible security, customer support, and broken bank
Terrible security. Someone walked into a branch bank in a different state that I live in, opened a checking account under my name with a fake ID with the wrong driver license # than what Citizens has on file, and a completely different signature than mine. At least 3 red flags that should have tipped the bank that something was wrong. The person then withdrew money from my account and my wifes linked account. The claim process is a disaster. Silo'd departments that can't help you and they pass you around. They have a lot of notes on my case in their system, but nobody is capable of understanding and fixing the issue. No or intermittent communication from Citizens. Sometimes they send a notification to the app, sometimes through US mail. Local branch rep has tried to help, but they also rely on the same phone support, but don't have to wait on hold as much. Local branch also seems powerless. For some reason, their claims dept withdrew from the fraudulent account to recover my money, but that account is now in the negative, and I'm getting overdraft warnings and threats that I need to pay or my credit will be impacted. Customer support insists I need to pay. This has gone on for 4 months now. This bank cannot help you when things go wrong, and their security is terrible. There is a flaw in their identity verification process. The ask you for a mobile phone number when on the phone with them to verify you. But they don't check with the phone numbers associated to your account. So anyone can give them any mobile phone number, receive a code, and give it to the Citizens rep. I tried to explain this flaw to them, but they don't understand or care. They just follow their script. DON'T choose Citizens. You will come to regret it.

Please save yourself a headache and time I deposit a check a week ago the money has been paid to citizens but yet they refuse to release it they state they can hold it for 10 days regards because the bank wouldn’t verify it when I asked what needed to be verified the money was paid they can’t explain when you ask to speak to someone higher because you want to follow the money and ask where is the money since it was paid out but not in your account they hang up worst bank ever they don’t care about there customers they don’t follow rules they make them up as they go along worst bank ever

If pressing legal charges would speed this up or fix this for future customers, I would do it! Citizens Bank is the absolute worst customer service company I have ever encountered. Nothing but hoops and delays and "we are ahead of schedule" as they max out 3-4 weeks per each review of mortgage documents. I have a Veteran Affairs loan, with a buyer eager to purchase my house since September 2025. Initial closing date was 5 December. 3 December, citizens Bank updates us they moved to the stone age and only review documents by hard copy and nothing electronically. They insisted it would be closed by end of December (3-4 week delay). They proceed to continue this dance to now saying by end of February. 6 months to let a Veteran sell their house with an eager buyer!!! This should be illegal.
Worst bank
I banked with Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo is a crappy bank so I switched to citizen bank. They’re even worse. 3 times already citizen bank keeps deactivating my atm card. I was at the gas station trying to refill my car. My card got deactivated for no reason. I have money in my account. Called I was on the hold with citizen bank for 45 mins to get my card reactivated. Thank got I had cash. 2nd time is when I was trying to bill online. 3rd time when I order DoorDash. Everytime customer service fixes and they tell me that it would happen again.

Worst bank ever they don’t care about their own customers will let an old man freeze and have no heat in cash check that he gave me the plumber. They wouldn’t even talk to his customer. They don’t care about anybody they’re ignorant, stupid and disrespectful. They own your money you don’t
$500 in limbo
Employees aren’t the friendliest and ATM’s are always down and on the chance they weren't I used it & never was dispersed the money, yet they deducted it from account and I’m having to go thru a long dispute process. Called the branch directly and he said “I don’t think I can help, ummmm. Ahhhh I don’t know what I could do” And transferred me to online banking which was no help. Eventually the fraud department was able to open a dispute but told me to wait 10 days.

Would give it zero stars, mediocre at best, and they let fraud charges come out repeatedly and then get like, OMG, I have to work. Then doesn't even do that

Actually 0 stars! The single worst company I’ve ever dealt with! Impossible to get help! They close on weekends so you can’t get help and then they can charge extra fees!! Stay away at all costs!
