CarHireExcess.com proved to be a reliable companion during my travels. After encountering unexpected charges for alleged damages by a car rental company in Italy, I was thankful to have their coverage, which reimbursed me without issues. Although there was some initial confusion regarding coverage in Mexico, their claims process, based on my experiences and feedback from others, is efficient. Friends and family have started considering their services for future trips, especially after hearing about smooth claims from countries like Albania. The straightforward setup process is a plus, even though I haven't used the coverage yet. Overall, a solid choice for car hire excess insurance abroad.

It has been two months since we submitted a claim, with zero communication or way of contacting anyone to make sure it was received. This is not customer service. All I’ve been told to do is NOT try and contact anyone bc allegedly my claim is being processed. Two months is way too long!

06/12: Claim has been settled. Thanks. Appreciate it may take time but should not purport to settle in 5 days if you make a claim online if this is not realistic.
04/12: Update: Provided the necessary information as requested by Natalie in carehireexcess. I still have not received any update on my claim and still out of pocket.
I made a claim on line. Company states that claims made online will be settled in 5 business days. No settlement after agreed SLA. Sent in a query circa 8 Business days. No response. Sent a follow up query circa 13 business days, No response. Claim and follow up queries being ignored.

I made a claim with this insurer on the 22nd August and was told the processing time is around 15 business days but should take five days if submitted through a second online form instead.
After two months I received nothing back so decided to use the second online form to attempt to claim. It has been over a month since submitting to this form and I have still not received anything other than a confirmation of the claim having been submitted.
UPDATE: Payment was finally received on 13th December, between three or four months after claim. I've lost about £55 in interest applied during this time. This would be OK if it had been expected, but I was told it would be done in 15 business days or five through a second platform. Not true.

Took out CarHireExcess.com insurance for car hire in Corfu having seend decent reviews on Trust Pilot. When returning the car we discovered that some 3rd party mush have scratched it while parked. I paid the car hire agency at the time of return, then claimed from CarHireExcess.com upon my return to the UK. Instructions advised me to send an email, asking for relevant detail/attachments, which I did. Auto-reply then asked me to go to a web page and complete the form there. A little annoying but only a cut and paste job. Around 10 days later, I recevied the full amount of my claim. No hassles, no quibbles, no jump through these hoops. Will use again. Would recommend.

I've had multiple policies with CarHireExcess over the years. This was the first time I've had to claim. I tried making a claim sending all the details to the claim email address - no response (actually not strictly true - we did receive an automated email acknowledging receipt). A follow-up email received no response either.
Luckily the excess this time was only 250 Euros so we have written it off.
Wont be using them again though.

Contacted them about their coverage for Mexico. They confusingly state the USA and Canada includes the Caribbean and South and Central America?? Unfortunately I'm travelling to Mexico and neither the country nor the continent of North America are mentioned. I wrote to them two weeks ago but no response to confirm coverage.

Just back from Albania.Had a minor dent on my rental car..Paid for the damage to the rental company..Sent in all my documentation to CarHireExcess.com and the claim was processed all in good time.

Really easy to take out a policy and at a great price, however.... No communication from them when needed.
I have contacted them FOUR times with no response after a rental company charged us a ridiculous amount of money for scratches to a car they blamed us for. ( We didn't cause them but unfortunately didn't take a video on pick up so they've charged us even though I tried to dispute the damage)
I submitted the claim as soon as I was charged in July via email and was told the turn around is 15 business days. I heard nothing so sent a follow up email, again no response. I then resubmitted the claim on their portal as their automated response said that would be a 5 business day turnaround. Again, no response. I have emailed again but I'm starting to think this company will never help me with this claim.
Absolutely gutted as I trusted the reviews I read but there is zero aftercare with this company.

Straightforward process and plain language made it easy to put the coverage in place. Coverage doesn’t start for a few weeks so can’t comment on that part (and hopefully won’t be able to!).

I've used the company for a number of years now. Never had to make a claim but taking out the policy has been very straightforward. They seemed a great company. That is until I had to make a claim for a fairly minor scratch to the bodywork of a car I rented.
On the 28th of June I followed their instructions and made a claim.
On the 23rd July I followed up as I'd heard nothing back whatsoever, and the turnaround time is suppose to be 15 working days.
On the 25th July carhireexcess.com contacted me to say they'd requested a callback from the insurer.
I never received the callback, have just contacted them again to be told they aren't the claims team but they'd forward my details for a follow up. No mention whatsoever of the promised callback or why mu claim has taken so long.
I'd genuinely use the company with extreme caution. Great at giving out policies. Claims though....
We're on holiday at the end of the month and I'm using another provider for the first time in many years.
