They’re useful in finding you a camp but in the end it’s a bit of a scam. They already take mos off your pay and they find other ways to take your money on top. You’re better off applying to camps directly.

Incorrectly informed we could send our documents to the US Embassy and get an exemption from the in-person interview. I paid additional costs to courier my documents, waited about 2 months to be told I would indeed have to come up to Auckland for an appointment. Last minute flights and accommodation were very expensive. Information about camp came through at the wrong times and sometimes the online portal contradicted the email information. No check ups during the camp.

It was a good experience , meeting new people getting along with them,everyone was so welcoming I'm looking forward to come back again. I had a great time with the campers and staff I appreciate everything every journey I experienced

Overall good application support and friendly staff. Camp fair was very useful for getting hired on the spot and meeting camp directors.
Support while in the US was severely lacking with the emergency support phone number literally just being an answering service who might as well have not known what camp America is (really unhelpful when you need help urgently when stateside). If you end up in legal trouble or something similar while there, you might as well be on your own as the email replies are also days long. Also not really enough transparency over whether flights included or booking own flights is more cost effective.

So disappointed that Camp America won't take my daughter's concerns seriously. She has looked forward to working for CA since she was 12. She worked for a year to save money for the full package, and volunteered locally to help her gain some experience with young adults with special needs. She was told that she would have 1 to 1 ratio with campers, either young adults or children and when she arrived she was assigned 3 adult campers with extremely severe and varied needs. She is only 18 but eager and keen to do her very best. She quickly realised that the camp was understaffed and under-resourced. Management didn't give her any assistance and her training consisted of being handed a leaflet. She was asked to take one of her campers to the hospital in the middle of the night on her first week there. It took the camp staff an hour to find the paperwork for this camper (who was in distress) before they could leave. The camper had a seizure on the way back and as the medical centre/hospital had closed they visited the camp nurse who shrugged and said 'My shift is over' and refused to help. She observed safe-guarding issues and was aware that the activities the camp should be offering were far from being met. After a very short time she was incredibly distressed, overworked and utterly disheartened. Several other counsellors left the same camp because of the situation and the impossible workload. On leaving, she was offered a girl scout camp but from the very beginning she had stated that she didn't want that kind of camp, she wanted to work with children and young adults with special needs. She was so distressed she had to come home at great additional expense to her and to us. Camp America has offered no useful assistance at all. They have not taken her claims seriously, but instead dismissed them as being (paraphrased) 'she was overwhelmed at being in new country' and '10 minutes can seem like an hour when you are stressed'. It's appalling. A company that claims to support and enrich the lives of young people is standing by and ignoring a bad situation in camp and a terrible experience for the young people who have trusted them and admired them as a company. CA won't even refund the flexible fare that my daughter paid extra for and I presume they are willing for Camp Loyaltown to open up again next year and repeat the mistakes they made now. Incidentally, the camp closed down shortly after my daughter left. We believe that the reason given was a covid outbreak but it seems likely that their desperate staff issues was also part of the reason.
I'm sure some young people have a great experience but just know that when it gets rough and when these young adults desperately need support and have concerns about the camp, that's when CA drop the ball. Just like the camp itself, it seems that money is the main motivation and not the people they claim to serve. This should have been a summer experience that was enriching and instead it was very traumatic for her, especially the experience of not being take seriously with her complaints and concerns for the campers afterwards.
*update in response to CA’s reply to ‘get in touch’. My daughter has done this several times and been told that her experience was negative only in her experience and not in reality. You have her details, if you have anything new to add to the useless and unhelpful responses already given to her then do feel free to contact her directly. I will amend this with an update if and when you do*

Working at the camp I went to was the best experience of my life and camp america made it so easy for the whole process to go ahead, couldn't recomment doing it and using them enough!

After a terrible experience with another agency, I can't thank Camp America enough for their service which has been the polar opposite of my previous experience with the other agency. I have been placed at my first choice camp, the Camp America orientation in London was brilliant fun, every member of staff I have spoken to has done exactly what they said they would do, phone always answered straight away...Can't fault them at all so far, two weeks till I fly woo hoo!!!! Highly recommended, true experts in the field.

My Camp America application process has been very positive and I have had great support over the last few months! I continue to receive any extra support or help that I need leading up to camp and I cannot wait for the full experience to start.

A really helpful scheme that has helped me organise my summer abroad. Helpful guidance throughout with all the steps however sometimes instructions don't match up for the same task so can become confusing what ones to follow and to not miss something out only for small aspects that often didn't matter too much.

They send reminder emails that are super helpful and the staff are always super friendly!

Staff are so helpful and reply to queries so quickly!! All very knowledgeable and have made the application process so much easier!!:)

Camp America have made everything easy and has made going to America as uncomplicated as posssible !

As a first time user of the company, I am very impressed of how smooth the entire process has been from start to finish. The online application is very interactive and straightforward to us.

Camp America provides such an awesome opportunity and offers great support and information. From start to finish, the process is easy to understand/go through and help is always on hand. They really are experts in this field and their kindness shines through as they really want you to have the best summer. I'm a returnee and I can't wait for my second summer (first summer in 2019) in the USA (3rd time lucky after re-applying 2020 and 2021)! Strongly recommend going through Camp America for an epic summer - you won't regret it! :D
