Rug delivered did not look at all like the rug advertised. I had to pay over $100 in returns and restocking fee

Hi Lori, we sincerely apologize for your experience. Rug patterns can vary in scale depending on the size of the rug. In this case, the design on the 3' x 4' size is scaled from the larger 7' x 9' images. If the larger rug’s pattern were reproduced at exactly the same scale on a 3' x 4' rug, some of the blue dot details would be approximately the size of a quarter.

This is the first time we’ve received this type of feedback, and our team is reviewing how we communicate pattern variations between rug sizes to help make this clearer for customers in the future.

Regarding the return costs, we provide free returns when an item is damaged, defective, or does not match the product shown online. For other returns, return shipping and the manufacturer’s restocking fee may apply, as outlined on the product page. We also provide discounted FedEx return labels to help keep those costs as low as possible.

Buyer beware

Buyer beware. I’ve been furnishing a new home and have purchased 4 large area rugs from various vendors over the past several years. Two had to be returned. I don’t remember losing any money on the transactions and if I did it was minimal. I needed to return a rug to BuyAreaRugs.com. The website said “Easy Returns”. When I contacted the company I was told that it would cost me $750 to return it. The rug cost only slightly more than that. They need to make their return policy very clear. In no way would I consider this “Easy”. Very disappointed and would never recommend this online company.

In this case, the rug ordered was a large 8' x 12' area rug that required LTL freight delivery due to its size and weight. After receiving the rug, you contacted us because you felt the color did not coordinate well with your new couch and wished to return it.

The return costs quoted were not a penalty from BuyAreaRugs, but consisted of the actual freight return shipping charges and the manufacturer's restocking fee. Because oversized rugs must be shipped by freight carrier, return transportation costs can be substantial. We also offered to work with you on an exchange, which would have eliminated the manufacturer's restocking fee, leaving only the actual freight costs.

We understand that return expenses for large freight-shipped items can be frustrating, and we appreciate your feedback regarding how these costs are communicated. Our goal is always to be transparent about the costs involved while helping customers find a rug they love.
