Avoid, avoid, avoid

Do not use this company if you value your possessions or enjoy good customer service in any way.
Our 4 day move went wonky from the off. Under resourced for pre packing, the giant van they sent to hold all of our possessions went away virtually empty. They were late/left early almost every day.
On removals day they turned up in a tiny van with no tail lift. Furniture that we had paid for to be dismantled wasn’t and if our buyers removals guy hadn’t helped them to get our expensive wardrobe into the van, hours after we should legally have left the property, it would probably still be kerbside.
We’d arranged for only essential items to be delivered on moving day, with the rest of our possessions being stored over the weekend, there was a leak in the van and boxes arrived in various states of decrepitude.
All of our garden furniture and big potted plants didn’t make it with us on moving day, as the removers timed out and there wouldn’t have been enough room on the van, or any means to get them into the van anyway. Thankfully, our buyers were very kind and allowed them to return after the weekend to complete the move.
The removals guys were good natured and worked as hard as they could but it was impossible. We were instructed not to speak to them at about 1 o’clock because the pressure was so intense, with our buyers removals being kept waiting outside until gone 2pm. We ended up finishing the packing ourselves. The two guys that turned up on removals day didn’t have a solitary break and one of them injured his hand quite badly but just had to carry on.
If you take the extra insurance out, which is a must, as payouts would be absolutely pitiful without it, do be aware that all claims for damages (there will be many) are to be made within 7 days. Neglect this at your peril.
Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Britannia Lanes were amazing!

, Mike and Dave were fantastic! They worked hard constantly throughout the day and were very careful - we had no breakages or damage at all. They were friendly and helpful and I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Overall great service and well worth every penny!

Good company, would recommend.

Turned up on time, worked hard, took care of our possessions and were polite and friendly.

Only one point was a couple of plants got slightly damaged in transit, but these things can happen and have happened to me before during a move (different company), and it was a very minor point.

Overall, a really good experience.

Thank you so sincerely for your management of my move and for being so kind and responsive with my dad and I - everyone at Britannia has made one of the hardest periods I've had much smoother and easier.

Leighton, Mike and Jimmy were all wonderful and so careful with all my treasures and kept us laughing all the way through the process. 

I know they probably didn't know what was going on under the surface, but they were kind, gentle and tactful with me and kept my spirits up over two very tough days. Truly class acts, the lot of them.

Andy and Lynn in the office were also fantastic. Helpful, patient and answered all our questions, even the ridiculous or repetitive ones.

Andreas, who did the survey prior to the move was also lovely and I can't recommend doing the survey enough. There were no nasty surprises and it was very quick and easy.

A friendly and helpful company…

A friendly and helpful company definitely a 5 star service from booking and throughout the move and storage, to moving me in.
The team that did the moving it self were great and if I wasn’t sure the big furniture items was in the right place were happy to move it around, very carefully of walls and carpets, put the beds back together and mattresses in place.
I would recommend them.

Smooth and supportive from estimate to moving.

Smooth and supportive from estimate stage through to moving.
Staff helpful and communication great. Moved from Devon to Kent.
Callum and his mate turned up on time, loaded the lorry carefully. Great lads worked hard and tidy on a very wet day.Blankets put down to protect floor.
Next morning we turned up at our new home, to find the lorry waiting outside.
Callum went the extra mile, making sure boxes put in right rooms, furniture handled with care and plastic put on carpets to protect flooring. A friendly team did a great job. No breakages or incidents.
Would recommend this company time after time. Top class.

Storage and Removal of our home from Somerset to Northumberland

We employed Lanes to pack up our home and place into their storage. From the outset, Lanes were a joy to work with. Everyone with whom we came into contact (in person or via e-mail and phone) was pleasant, patient and knowledgeable. The packing of our home took 3 days and the crews involved were delightful and respectful of our home and possessions. After 2 months in storage, Lanes safely delivered our possessions to our new home. Callum and Harvey offloaded the huge truck with care and respect. They worked in a calm manner, were extremely personable and helped to make the moving process easy for us. Thank you to all at Britannia Lanes. We highly recommend Lanes and the Britannia group for a stress free move.

Excellent service from Britannia Lanes and their assoicated company.

Everything went as Britannia Lanes said it would.
It was a small shipment, not a whole house. They have an associated company who collected the shipment on the day and time given.
The shipment arrived on the day and within the time frame given.
Everything was intact and just as it had been packed.
The staff were excellent representatives of the company. Helpful, placing heavy boxes in given places, considerate and polite. What's not to like.

Catalogue of issues

We booked BL to pack and store our furniture. The agreement was for them to pack the fragile on the Tuesday and the rest of the property on the Thursday. The Tuesday packing started at 15:30 and finished at 17:00. This cost me nearly £400. On Thursday the guys worked from 9am but had a lot of packing to do in the time allowed so we weren’t able to see what was going on to the boxes.
When we had our furniture returned some weeks later, the television had a crack in its screen. They insist the invoice is paid well ahead of them doing anything. The quotes increased in value which I spotted and I had to correct them. There was a blank refusal to my claim on the tv as I hadn’t paid for insurance (a mistake on my part) but there doesn’t appear to be any duty of care from them. Poor attitude, they’ve got their money so….

Dear Mr Cannon, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I’m sorry to hear that parts of your experience did not meet your expectations.

As mentioned in our email correspondence at the time, there was unfortunately a misunderstanding regarding the arrival window for the initial packing day, combined with an unexpected delay on the crew’s earlier move. I apologised at the time for the disruption this cause as it was certainly not our intention or service we look to provide. We arranged additional staff for the following day to ensure all packing and loading were completed as planned.

With regard to pricing, I have looked at your account and the amount charged was the same as the quote issued on 23/07/25. If you can provide any further informaton on this I'd be happy to look into it.

In relation to the damaged TV, firstly we were sorry to see of the reported damage. While we make every effort to ensure all items arrive in the same condition as when loaded, accidents can occur during a house move, often without any fault. Lynn has been in touch to request photographs and we have spoken with your crew for their reports. We certainly haven’t refused to assist; unfortunately without insurance or enhanced liability cover in place, we are restricted to the standard terms and conditions you accepted at the time of booking. These limit our liability to a maximum of £40 per item. If you would like to make a claim under this provision, you are very welcome to do so, and Lynn will be able to progress this once she has the information requested.

I’m sorry for the disappointment this has caused, and we’re keen to help within the scope of the cover available. I am saddened you feel these issues have left to a 1 star service as I note your earlier comments on our crew were "polite, efficient and worked hard".

The best removal company we have ever used and we have moved around quite a number of times for work
Their quote was a lot lower than other companies we contacted for this move.
The 3 young men that did our move were excellent and nothing was too much trouble for them. Very professional and very helpful and friendly

Britannia Lanes were amazing for our move. The lads worked so hard packing up our old house, loading and then unloading. Everything was treated with care and they worked so hard to get the job done. We couldn’t believe how hard they worked. I would completely recommend.

Disappointed beyond belief

We took out their insurance as we had a few items above £1,000 in value. Despite pointing out the fragile nature of one particular item, which has huge sentimental importance and cost a lot of money, it was wrapped in just a single sheet of paper and dumped in the top of a box with three other items. In addition, the original move assessment determined that a particular van size would be required, as a bigger one would not fit round our lanes. However, the van they actually used was even smaller and necessitated a number of trips back to a bigger vehicle 2 miles away and decanting the contents of each small load into the bigger vehicle, so handling everything at least twice and increasing the risk of breakages. The bigger vehicle's contents were then decanted into a third vehicle ready for the long journey up to Norfolk. So our belongings were handled at least three times. Yes we took out their insurance but it is now proving to be worthless. I have a broken valuable ornament and am upset at being offered such a paltry sum, and Lanes are hiding behind minutae. Upon arrival in Norfolk their truck leaked hydraulic fluid at the entrance to our new driveway after the trainee decided to lower the ramp without checking if the fluid pipe was caught. Don't use this company.

We have now had a response and are still dissatisfied. We took out the additional insurance for our few valuable items that we were not going to transport ourselves and you then had an inexperienced trainee pack my valuable ornament. He wrapped it in a single sheet of paper, not bubble wrap which would have protected it. So this was very avoidable damage. And you think it's OK to offer a paltry sum to replace it. Still very disappointed and would still not recommend this company.

Regarding the vehicle used, your original quotation was based on a 7.5t truck, which we advised at the assessment stage was the appropiate size. When your booking was made a week before the move, we did not have a 7.5t vehicle available both days, so we allocated a 3.5t vehicle in order to ensure we could still accommodate your removal. This did result in additional labour and shuttling, but this is standard practice as many properties across Devon and Somerset cannot accomodate a truck. Our priority was making sure your move went ahead.

We were disappointed to hear about the damage to your ornament. We take great care in packing and handling customers’ belongings, but unfortunately accidents can still occur, which is why we recommend taking a policy to cover in these circumstances. Settlement is based on the item’s current market value rather than its original purchase price, and we appreciate that this can sometimes be upsetting when a piece has sentimental significance.

We also apologise for the hydraulic fluid incident on arrival. This was reported to the site manager at the time, who advised that they would work to remove the staining, but we fully understand the frustration this caused.

Very happy customer

The removals team were great. I was nervous about the move after a previous bad experience. The team reassured us every step of the way; they were friendly; jovial; helpful and efficient. The transport was sufficient for our belongings and everything was handled carefully and with respect.
