Ballet Shoes was one of my favourite books as a child and I have read it several times, including as an adult. Though I was apprehensive of how the play might have updated it, I was thoroughly won ove... Leggi di più

Excellent performance
Excellent performance, funny, amusing, professional and highly creative, a joy to watch, not forgetting the wonderful music by an outstanding orchestra
Excellent evening.
The whole venue including the restarunt, cafe, shop and build up to the show was worth the money. The performance itself was excellent, especially considering it was the final one after a long run.
The most un-funny play I've seen in…
The most un-funny play I've seen in London in many a year. Subject matter quite strange and presented in an almost slapstick manner that wasn't generally funny, mostly uncomfortable laughter from a small portion of the audience. To add to this the lead, Katherine Tate, did not appear. In my opinion the acting performances were good but the script wasn't. Thank goodness the play was only short.
A very disappointing experience
I just left a review on your website but it seems to have disappeared. I scored it three stars.
My partner Brian is a lifelong ABBA fan . We had tickets for the show a couple of years ago but were not able to attend due to illness. Last Thursday we made it to Pudding Lane looking forward to finally getting to see the show. We had our ticket on my phone as directed. The door staff said there was a problem with them. We had to go to the box office and were initially told that the tickets were for July even though they clearly showed Thursday 28 th as the performance date. We were given the impression that we were not going to see the show. Eventually they found out tickets on their system and printed them out. We made it into the auditorium and eventually found out seats which was not so easy due to the very low light levels.
The show was visually stunning and very cleverly done. However the sound quality was not good. The vocals were not as clear as they should have been. When the band did their solo spot the sound levels were just too much for the PA system to handle. I have played in semi pro bands for over forty years so I think I know a bit about amplification. It was a very disappointing experience. My partner Brian felt the same and was very let down.
In contrast we attended a performance of The Devil Wears Prada the night before which was superb. The staff were warm and friendly. The production stunning and flawless the music powerful and clear as a bell.

The play was so beautiful that we left with nothing but admiration for the artists and the place. It was everything I imagined. WIll return soon!
Venue is unique
Venue is unique. Thank goodness there were rental cushions and fans were sold for ver warm afternoon performance. We enjoyed the experience and would do it again tho this isn't my favorite play. Cast was very engaging and energetic.

Despite tube strikes we got there
Despite tube strikes we got there. My granddaughter absolutely loved it. Has asked to go to Christmas one. I've seen it before but still continually laughed out loud!
Funniest show I've seen in years
Funniest show I've seen in years (and I'm ancient). Brilliantly irreverent. singing, dancing, acting all wonderful. Everybody left with a smile on their face. What more could you ask for?
Hmm not the greatest show
Hmm, not the greatest show. Had difficulty understanding the lyrics.
A tedious production lacking any magic
We thought this performance of The Tempest was so dire that we left at half time, feeling angry and disappointed.
The company took away all the magic of The Tempest and added stupid gimmicks which added nothing to the play whatsoever. I am not against different interpretations and presentations of Shakespeare but this production mangled the text, altered the personalities of the main characters and robbed the play of its most powerful and magical elements.
This play should not open with a domestic scene comprising characters I could barely recognise with the exception of Miranda, who did her best to rescue the situation. Comedy was provided by seeming members of the audience scrambling over people to become part of the action on stage but this device soon wore thin. The monster Caliban, a rather tragic character in the play had no charisma whatsoever and the ethereal Ariel was a frumpy rather truculent woman. The notes on the production talked about blurring the difference between audience and players on stage, but the price was too high; the result was a tedious confusing production which was not worth watching. An expensive mistake on my part not to read reviews before booking .
Welcoming place, mesmerising performance.
From the helpful courteous staff, to the beauty of the theatre and the truly mesmerising performance of Mayerling my experience was perfect. I would truly recommend the Royal Opera House it's staff and company to anyone and everyone. Thank you for an awesome visit which I appreciated even more as I was a lone patron and still felt completely comfortable.
